  1. The depth we have is a fantastic asset right now, but we also don't need to go "See?! See?!" every single time we have an injury. Injuries are mostly circumstantial and we could just as easily be completely healthy and have dumped Aguilar for nothing by now because we needed the spot and couldn't find an AB anywhere for him. Obviously, this wasn't totally by design or plan because we were certainly open to moving multiple guys, particularly Santana or Aguilar. No one was willing to meet Stearns' price so he held his ground and that was the correct decision. I don't think there's anyone here that seriously thinks they can do a better job than Stearns.
  2. Because he hits for an extremely good amount of power for a middle infielder and plays decent defense. The career OBP is low but he was brought up at 21 and a regular by 22. Last year he was at .338 which is fine. He was also a 5.2 WAR player last year which JV will not touch in his best year.
  3. So Woodruff is going to be pitching out of the pen? Or another move coming to send Suter down? Doesn't make much sense to have 6 starters on the 25.
  4. If we have a pretty steady rotation near the deadline and are still looking to upgrade, I think this guy is a likely target. The Orioles are pretty much dead in the water from the get-go, and if they don't extend Schoop he'll be a free agent after 2019. That's the perfect amount of time for us and prevents the need to rush Hiura. He's hurt to start out this year, but established himself as one of the best 2B in the game last year and is only 26. Not sure what it would take, but I can't see the Orioles holding onto him at the deadline unless they extend him first.
  5. Ugh I hope not. We have good enough depth in the minors without carrying 2 mediocre backup catchers.
  6. Although we have good depth at 1st, Thames' bat is a real tough loss. Choi is a definite possibility, although his numbers in AAA haven't been really inspiring. They could also promote someone like Phillips and transition Braun more to 1st. All of this is still hypothetical. Maybe we get good news on Thames. But thumbs are so tricky and as we've seen with Braun, having him try to play through it isn't going to go well. I'd prefer them to just DL him and have him take whatever time he needs to heal up. Even if that means he isn't back until midseason.
  7. I am happy Oliver Drake didn't get the opportunity to hand you his beer. Lol, touche. I probably should have excluded him but I was feeling generous.
  8. I don't expect to see Hader tonight. Maybe if they get in big trouble and the game is in the balance but otherwise he pitched an inning on Saturday and 2 on Sunday and with a 3 run lead I think they'd like to get him more than one day off. I agree that Counsell would obviously would prefer not to have to use him, but it's a save situation right now with two lefties coming up in the 9th inning. Hader is clearly the best option to pitch the 9th. I'm fine with whatever he chooses (assuming it'll be Barnes but maybe Jeffress if not Hader?), I can really see it going either way. It's entirely possible Hader is off limits tonight no matter what. Hopefully the Crew can add another couple here and make it an easier decision (although anybody got eyes on the bullpen?) I agree Hader was the best option, but he is always our best 9th inning option. I'm glad Counsell played it the way he did and didn't worry about the 'save' (despite my joke about Jeffress getting screwed). I don't think a 3 out lead should necessarily be treated as a high leverage situation despite the fact that it is technically a save situation. Anyone in this pen should be able to complete a 3 run, 1 inning save.
  9. I don't believe you need a full inning to get a save. Nope, still a save if he finishes it. No it is not. If you do not complete a full inning you must come in with the potential tying run on base, at bat or on deck. That criteria was not met.
  10. 5 days day to day, half a DL stint, just like all our other injuries!
  11. I don't expect to see Hader tonight. Maybe if they get in big trouble and the game is in the balance but otherwise he pitched an inning on Saturday and 2 on Sunday and with a 3 run lead I think they'd like to get him more than one day off.
  12. So I'm assuming they prefer not to use Hader tonight, after going back to back over the weekend and 2 innings Sunday they would probably like to get him a couple days off. Everyone else should be available I think.
  13. You are really ticking me off this year Santana. And you're making everyone right who said we were trying to sell high on you and that you weren't as good as your 2017.
  14. For a gritty move like that by the cleanup hitter I am shocked the cameras did not pan to the dugout to show Shaw getting high 5's from every single person in the clubhouse.
  15. Still essentially have a pitcher hitting 9th, so the transition to AL games should be seamless.
  16. Not to pat myself on the back too much because I know many others felt the same way but I said repeatedly pre-2017 that Shaw had a chance to be really sneaky good. He played in a big hitters park for lefties, still had decent limited numbers and now benefits from playing at home here. I agree it was a puzzling move by Dombrowski.
  17. This team really needs to learn how to start utilizing the 10 day DL. If Arcia still can't go he should have been DLed by now. Nothing about his injury looked like a day to day thing. It feels like we've been playing with a 24 man roster all season.
  18. This is going off mostly the top of my head with just a little research on smaller pieces, so please correct me if there are any mistakes! For all Brewers on the current 25 acquired by trade. Chase Anderson: With Isan Diaz and Aaron Hill from Tyler Wagner and Jean Segura, through Zack Greinke and Yuniesky Betancourt, through Jeremy Jeffress, Lorenzo Cain, Jake Odorizzi, and Alcides Escobar Zach Davies: From Gerardo Parra, through Mitch Haniger and Anthony Banda Oliver Drake: From cash Josh Hader, Domingo Santana: With Brett Phillips and Adrian Houser from Mike Fiers and Carlos Gomez, through JJ Hardy Jett Bandy: From Martin Maldonado and Drew Gagnon Jacob Nottingham: With Bubba Derby from Khris Davis Travis Shaw: With Mauricio Dubon and Josh Pennington and Yeison Coca from Tyler Thornburg Jonathan Villar: From Cy Sneed Christian Yelich: From Lewis Brinson, through Jonathan Lucroy and Jeremy Jeffress, and Monte Harrison, and Isan Diaz, through Jean Segura, through Zack Greinke and Yuniesky Betancourt, through Jeremy Jeffress, Lorenzo Cain, Jake Odorizzi and Alcides Escobar, and Jordan Yamamoto
  19. Given Lowrie's 6M salary, his age, and the horribly deflated free agent market, I would guess that his preseason surplus trade value was pretty much zilch. Yes he had a very nice 2017 but that was preceded by 2 really mediocre years and his projections this year weren't great. Even now it would take him putting up nice numbers for pretty much the entire first half for me to feel good about giving up more than a Tyrone Taylor rebound type prospect.
  20. Davies isn't going anywhere. He's a pretty proven solid starter. It would take a month of disastrous starts to even be thinking of ditching him. I don't think the idea that Medeiros could be fast tracked and help the pen out in September is crazy at all though. He has to be added to the 40 after the season anyway.
  21. This is where bullpen depth is big, and keeping a guy like Williams fresh in the first half could pay dividends in the fall. I honestly think we'll start to see bullpen innings trend up in coming years, however. Hader specifically is a guy that I think could be a 80-100 type reliever. They keep his role so flexible and sometimes he'll work multiple days in a row and then others for multiple innings followed by a couple days off. He's essentially the master key to the bullpen. That's why I'm becoming less inclined to believe that Hader would be more valuable as a starter as many believe. He is so valuable to that pen. When he can pitch at his best and give us maybe 150 Ks this season all coming in crucial situations -- there's no way I believe that it's more valuable for him to pitch in 20% of games for 5-6 innings, some of which won't even be competitive games anyway and in which he'll likely have to preserve himself for a full outing and not necessarily be able to throw the way he does now.
  22. The closing situation was pretty bad up until a week ago, with several blown saves, including an almost unbelievable 3 in one game. Yes, they have looked better with these longer saves, but lets not put Knebel out to pasture just yet. He was a dominant All-Star closer last year, and I suspect he'll be right back in that spot when deemed healthy. And it will make the bullpen all that much better. It wasn't meant to put Knebel out to pasture at all or anything. More of an asking if this is the best approach for us rather than having defined roles.
  23. How good is this this deal looking now? Seriously not just for the big bang for your buck price but the option years really make this phenomenal. Brewers have the option for another year of control in 2019 for just over 3M. Obviously a lot of season left but right now that's a no brainer. There's another team option in 2020 for 4.3M. Again, obviously horse way before the cart but it's great to have 3 years control. I can't explain why Jeffress pitches so much better as a Brewer but I don't really care. One of the great parts about this pen is that it's going to be a long-term unit. Knebel, Hader, Barnes, and Williams are all under control for a long time. Jeffress is controlled through 2020. Albers and Jennings through 2020. There isn't a single one here that we are going to lose after this year.
