  1. I don’t know what we saw in Zerpa, but he’s been a very poor return on investment so far. Those big GIDPs by Turang and Contreras with chances to break the game open loom large right now.
  2. Did not have Matos, Perkins, Ortiz and Hamilton all getting hits in the same inning on my bingo card today.
  3. Murphy’s handling of the pitching staff is just really odd to me in general. Some guys get the kid glove treatment, other guys get ridden into the ground, and there doesn’t seem to be any real rhyme or reason on who gets what treatment.
  4. No, I’m saying situationally, it’s almost always better to take 3-0. Even if it’s a strike it’s still a high probability of a walk which is a good result. 3-1 is still a very good hitters count. Like I said, it does depend too on the guy on deck, I’ll take my chances with Sanchez, not so much with Matos. And if you’re going to green light, crazy not to have Turang in motion to at least stay out of the double play.
  5. Sproat really did a nice job after the 1st and I just don’t understand the quick hook and again making an overworked pen carry the load.
  6. I’m almost never an advocate of swinging 3-0 and that AB was no exception. Maybe if Matos or Ortiz was on deck I could get on board with this a little more. But I’ll take my shot with the bases loaded and 1 out for Sanchez a single away from taking the lead.
  7. Fundamentally we have exasperated our major lineup holes by doing everything we can to make extra outs the last two games.
  8. Swinging 3-0 to ground into a double play is today’s version of yesterdays’ bunting with 2 strikes. We do not have a good enough offense to stupid our way into outs.
  9. Yes. Because our best are better than their best. But they also don’t have as many total liabilities, which was my point on the depth issue.
  10. No idea if this is actually statistically true, but it feels like we must be near the top of the league in allowing leadoff walks.
  11. The Tigers have two players under a .600 OPS and .200 BA in their lineup. We have four under a .200 BA and five under a .600 OPS.
  12. I still had it on for the perfect game watch … ;), but hey, at least they were able to scratch out a run on Skubal!
  13. It’s hard to understand how the depth on this team is so bad. There’s no fallback whatsoever in the event of injuries. Obviously I can understand that unless you’re the Yankees or Dodgers, you can’t load your entire 26 man roster but we are trotting out half a lineup of completely incapable hitters night in and night out.
  14. It feels like almost every position is a low key need. Not great.
  15. Those were two of the most uncompetitive ABs I’ve ever seen to start a game.
  16. The highest OPS among our 5-9 hitters is .595. The highest. Ortiz’ .436 OPS is somehow only the third worst in the lineup.
  17. I think it hurts us more than we realize that Yelich doesn’t play the outfield much anymore. Sanchez has been one of our best hitters and he doesn’t really have a spot when Yelich returns. He’s obviously not going to play over Contreras and he’s too much of a hack to play at 1st even in a pinch.
  18. Color me shocked that a 30 year old below replacement level career player with over 2,000 PAs is still in fact that exact same player.
  19. How does a soft groundout to 3rd suit you?
  20. Yeah, for the most part, the guys we expected to hit have hit, and the guys we expected to not hit have not hit. With the exception that Frelick has hit worse than expected and Sanchez has hit better than expected. It’s not that everyone is just underperforming.
