  1. Didn't we also through in an effective RP along with Pod to get Lee?
  2. Or just take a taxi. Prices off airport (like in downtown) are not based on airport prices, but the amount of local demand. Taking a taxi to a different part of the city can save way more than the price of the taxi. Plus the airport taxes. In Milwaukee, there is a 11% tax by the county on all business at the airport, plus a $1 fee the county charges you for using the airport facility.
  3. I just got my package in the mail today. They raised my ticket price $3/game. To watch a losing team that will bring back the same losers? Where's the vent/swear thread when I need it...
  4. Human tampering in the name of "Climate Change" Asteroid Nukes muerte peludo
  5. I've worked in rental cars for 12 years. I haven't read the links posted yet, but here is what I know from the inside. 1) The first thing the auto makers did to cut losses was to slash discounts car rental companies get when we buy cars. Increased price of our cars means we have to pass the price on. 2) We are different than a hotel or airline. Hotels have X amount of rooms to rent every day of the year for years on end. Airlines can't buy and sell planes quickly. In the car rental business, we only keep a car for 6 months on average, meaning we can change our fleet size significantly within a year. Every company knew travel would be down, so every company started lowered it's fleet size. When supply reduces faster than expected demand drop, it produces higher prices. Besides, car rental prices have not kept up with inflation over time. In the 70's and early 80's the cost of a compact car was the same as staying at the local hotel. I know people that set prices back then, that is actually how they set them. Somebody sees a hotel price of 70/night now and they can't believe the deal. 40/day for a car and they want to know how they can lower the rate. This explains the high cost of one-way rentals (dropping it off in a different city). It makes it really hard to plan fleet sizes for reservations if people are taking the cars all over. 3) Be careful of the Wild Card, Lock Low and Go, or other we pick them cars. We will give you whatever crap vehicle we have too much of that day. This can include big SUVs or Minivans. If you don't want to drive one of those, pay the extra $2/day or so and reserve the midsize. 4) Don't prepay for anything before you arrive at the location. The biggest problems are when people prepay for the vehicle with Priceline or Expedia. It will work most of the time, but if there is a problem you can't threaten to walk to the next counter. It also makes it hard to get your money back. If you haven't prepaid and you don't like what you're getting from company X, go to company Y and try there. Also, don't prepay for insurance. You are buying it from the website, not the rental car company. If something happens to the car, we still go after you. It is your responsibility to pay us and get reimbursed from the website. 5) Read the fine print or call and ask questions before hand. Know how much you need on your card. Know the policy of renting with a debit card. Too many people make reservations on Expedia and yell at us that they didn't know our rules. This can and has prevented people from renting a car because they did not meet our requirements. 6) I won't say here whether you need insurance. Every situation is different. But do the grunt workers a favor. If you know you will not be taking insurance, won't pay for an additional driver or pay for an upgrade, sign up for the frequent renter's program. We get punished financially (lower commission) and might lose our jobs if we don't sell a high enough percentage of these products. But frequent renter program rentals do not count against our average. For the company I work, all that is needed to sign up is for you to go to the website and give us the info on your license and credit card.
  6. I almost want the Yankees to win the WS. Maybe then people (like 28 owners) will admit that something needs to be done and makes it happen.
  7. Cam's batting average is not high enough for him to win a gold glove. I wish I could write that in blue.
  8. Maybe they tied it to him since he became personally involved in pushing for it, and it was his home city. I don't think Clinton of Bush I pushed for Salt Lake or Atlanta.
  9. I think the school bill dropping to $800 is what isn't bugging him.
  10. FWIW, I know Chicago (or any other non-mountain city) would never get the winter games. I was just expressing my preference for Olympic seasons. America is the Yankees, or course there's anti-us setiment everywhere else.
  11. I'm against it for all of the traffic trouble it will cause, along with the waste of money for mass transit in the area. Also, the summer olympics are filled with boring "sports" now that baseball is gone. Come back to me when they land the winter games.
  12. You should just kill Scott's parents and them as meat.
  13. I have MLB.tv, and the subsription allows me to view or hear anything in their archive going back to 04 or 05. I imagine Gameday Audio would be the same with the archive. I don't remember when the subscription runs out; end of baseball, the end of the year, or at the start of spring training. I'd post about this game, but there is nothing I can say without getting a ban.
  14. The theory is that the electrical signals of a cell phone will interfere with the electrical signals needed in the cockpit. People fear that cell phones that are powered on in a plane will cause it to crash.
  15. If you have continuous coverage, it does not count as "pre-existing" condition. As long as you don't go 30 (or 60, don't remember) days without coverage, it is not considered pre-existing. So him declining COBRA kicked the kid's condition to pre-existing. I have been advised by support groups to always take COBRA if I leave my job to prevent myself from falling into "pre-existing" condition status. I do have to advise that I have never been on COBRA so I do not have personal knowledge of it, only advice from advocacy groups.
  16. Did your mom take it in and know what's wrong with the cat besides old age? If it's just old age I don't think it "needs" to be put down. I've seen old people that looked pretty sickly, but I don't think they needed to be killed off. Work, customers, and inside sales are bothering me right now.
  17. IIRC, Hart was a first baseman that was moved because we already had Sexson/Fielder. He was moved to 3B, but was eventually moved to OF because he couldn't play good defense at 3rd (just like Weeks at 2nd), and there was already an answer in the majors at 3rd (but Helms ended up being the wrong answer).
  18. They don't have to ask the player's permission. They are asking an employee if he would be happy to do something different for the company. The company can and does have the right to demand the employee to change jobs. The employee has the right to be upset with the company and seek employment elsewhere as soon as possible. This is a case where the company values the employee and wants to keep him happy while working here. Plus, it doesn't seem like management was too keen on the idea in the first place.
  19. Before reading this thread, the first thing I thought of when reading this quote is "Sounds like exactly what I heard when we picked up Soup".
  20. He had the option of paying to have health care this year. He declined it, taking a risk he would earn free health care again this year. The other option would be for the government to take that money from him every year in the form of taxes and not give him a choice. I don't think the current system is what is causing the problem. I hope some team brings him up to help him out. But the other thing I think of, is where does that money come from to pay for the healthcare? If the Brewers sign him and bring him up, do they have to pay the $25k for his health care? Or does it come out of a general fund run by the league or the union? I really haven't thought about those extra benefits players recieve and wonder how the system works.
  21. Cory Hart is fast, and we stuck him in the outfield (for similar reasons some want to put Weeks out there). He gets bad jumps on batted balls and does not look that good out there. I think Weeks will be similar. How bad would our pitching staff become with 3 OFers bad at reading balls off the bat?
  22. This sounds similar to the Carlos Lee talk when we had him. Everyone knew he should get worse defensively. We offer a nice deal to appease fans. Player rejects and takes the outragous, franchise hurting deal elsewhere. Unless that franchise is in the NE, then it doesn't hurt the franchise.
  23. Some scratch off vouchers were for free tickets for next year (April 6th and 7th and the Pirates series in April are the only eligible games), some had a $10 food voucher good for 2010, and some said "game-used item". We got one game-used item ticket. We had to take it to a table on the 2nd deck. Once there, you drew a number out of the bag. You got the appropriate pre-wrapped item. Some were used bats, some were used jerseys. We (when I say we I actually mean my SO) got a game-used lineup card. She asked if it was from this year and we were assured that it was. We opened up the bag and it was from 6/24/08 with Ned Yost's signature on it. My SO (who hated Yost) was really mad about the card, until I pointed out her favorite batter (Branyan) started the game and her favorite pitcher (Shouse) was listed in the bullpen. We stopped by a shop and found that they sold these for about $20. We wish we had gotten a jersey, but can't complain about a free item. Also, the game was an away game.
  24. FWIW, I was chanting "Sooouuup" out in RF. But it was in a very condesending and sarcastic voice. Is it April yet?
