  1. Did he work in the food or food tasting industry?
  2. Outside of the Lions, every NFL team believed it had a legitamate chance to make the playoffs this year. When baseball can offer the same hope for nearly every team every year or every other, then we'll have competitive balance.
  3. I wasn't worried about TBow "slowing down" to 94-95 if it meant better accuracy on the pitches. Was the speed drop because of a change in mechanics to get better results, or the loss of strength? But it doesn't matter how fast you throw if you can't spot your offspeed pitches. Ask Ben Hendrickson about that.
  4. Is there any chance Melvin talked to Looper about becoming the closer in Milwaukee? That would make more sense to me than to bring him in as a starter.
  5. That would cause 1% of the players to not get as much, so the Player's Association will never agree to it.
  6. Maybe we should pool some money together and have a Brewer Fan dot Net Field Haus presented by Brian.
  7. I grew up in Milwaukee. I became a huge fan in college when my best friend and roommate was a Cubs fan. Combine that with the Brewers just moving to the NL, and the great home run chase and I started watching almost daily. In 2001 a friend mentioned that he scored opening day tickets by buying a 20-game pack and the price was way less than what I thought it would be. The next year I became a full season ticket holder and started searching the net for other rabid fans.
  8. Well, the Brewers did win the division by double digits, er, wait a second... Interesting stat: The top four team ERAs in the NL this year; Dodger, Brewers, Cubs, Phillies. Cardinals finished 7th. I think that had more to do with the Cardinals not being in the playoffs than Prince "elevating" his game better than Pujols. Congratulations to Albert. I admire his talent and saddened that he's in the division against the Brewers.
  9. Was Ned Yost on the ballot? Maybe you could only choose the current Brewers manager and someone wanted to cast a vote for the combination of Yost and Sveum.
  10. What vouchers are these? When did these vouchers get handed out? Where can I get one?
  11. I've seen Gartner batting balls for fielding practice before games at The Keg. He caught my attention when I saw one of the coaches was wearing #17.
  12. brwsfan: Do what I did. They didn't have any Row 1 seats open for me. I wasn't trying to upgrade, just move up one row. They promised to call if some seats opened up and I never heard from them. In February of 2007 I called the general ticket line and mentioned I was interested in first row season tickets. It took them two minutes to find the seats I had previously been told were not available. There was a lot of huffing and puffing when I mentioned I was already a season ticket holder, but the cat was out of the bag and I was able to get the seats. So just call them without mentioning you are an existing ticket holder and see what kind of seats they can find you.
  13. Just like the analogy about the hot girl at the bar, a trade only happens if the other side also says yes. Maybe the other 26 teams are leery of trading with Melvin and getting robbed.
  14. Hopefully the answer to both is "very realistic". I can't wait for the WS to end just to find out who the new manager will be.
  15. He might be assuming that Sheets will command a multi-year deal that the Brewers would not be willing to match. I doubt anything has been said for certain. Also, Sheets seemed set on trying free agency. The Yankees need pitching and can afford to double whatever the Brewers could offer.
  16. I doubt that information is out there. When the Brewers were audited a number of years ago (2003ish) there was outrage that it was not public. Rick Schlesinger told me it was because they want to keep the salaries of the front staff secret. Just like other companies, they don't want to let the competition know what price would entice them away.
  17. Maybe BF.net softball should offer a fantasy camp. I'll gladly lend my "coaching" talents for a cheaper price of attendance http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. Except that Manny got to play on a good team and won some rings while in Boston. Geoff played for some horrid teams while here when he could have went to free agency. Since the Brewers got eliminated, I'm cheering for Jenkins to get a ring. Even if he didn't contribute much to the team, I'm happy when such a great guy gets rewarded at the end of his career.
  19. Here is the rational for trading Hardy rather than Escobar. Hardy will start making Millions in Arby, while Escobar will be making minimum wage. Are the Brewers better off spending the money on the upgrade at SS for Hardy, or trading Hardy for some good players and putting the money towards something else (re SP)? There is no clear answer since Escobar is still a question mark. These are the kind of decisions that need to be made to compete against higher payroll teams. I would take the approach SD is taking with Peavy. We shouldn't actively shop Hardy, but we should inquire into seeing what teams are willing to give up. Is there a team that is so desperate for a good SS that they will overpay in pitching and other prospects? But I have to believe that StL is out of the question.
  20. A-Rod would certainly end our 3B woahs, but the Yankees would need to add a ton of cash. I'm not sure if that matches your "straight up" limitations.
  21. I thought that once we got rid of Yost we wouldn't need any more Coffey in the clubhouse.
  22. ...and people wonder why I hate the Packers. This is why.
  23. Much like the real grass, the sunsetting of the tax was something to feed the fans to get the stadium built. Both ideas will be gone before long.
  24. Both inside jobs this year will be memorable for me (Hart and Prince) since they were both hit right at me in the outfield.
  25. ...might as well come on here and claim the Brewers should be moved or contracted with a "hope the Cubs win it" statement. I want to see Philly win it. I would love for Geoff to finally get a ring, and I'm not a fan of LA, Boston, or White Sox. Like someone else said, I'm a little jealous of TB, and I'm indifferent towards LAAoAiCAbtM.
