  1. I was really hoping that wasn't the correct answer. I'll probably just pay for the extra box and hook it straight into my monitor then. How come we busted up Ma Bell for "renting" us phones but we can't do the same thing with cable companies?
  2. fwiw, here is the official response from TWC So the $135 a month I give them is not enough, they want to "rent" me the card I can buy at most stores. And that I can't install it myself and pay some monkey that knows less about computers to come in and do it for me. But competition would be bad for them... You can see why I'm hoping someone out there has direct experience with this.
  3. I currently pay for an HD DVR set box through Time-Warner Cable. I also have Earthlink. There is a thrid outlet that is not being used. Can I just buy a TV tuner card for my PC and plug it into the wall? Or do I need to pay for the "service" or for some kind of box? This would make it easier for the other housemates when I want to watch Brewers games.
  4. Make sure the bandwagon has side airbags and anti-lock breaks. I would hate to see everyone in the bandwagon no longer with us because of an accident.
  5. The big pressure to bring up Braun last year was half due to Braun dominating AAA and half how badly our MLB 3B was doing. If there is pressure to bring up LaPorta this year it would mean someone in the outfield is doing bad. That is not good for our MLB team.
  6. In March of last year Cappy was "clearly" the "Ace" of the team. People said we were crazy to consider Sheets over Cappy. Now some people don't even think he should be a starter?
  7. 1) Cameron took me by surprise. I thought for sure we would get some kind of lefty for either 3rd or OF. But the move increased our D in two positions. The only downside is TGJ may now be asked to use a bat for 25 games. 2) This year it looks like we will break camp with a bunch of has beens and hope some or all of them regain their ability. It sounds bad, but it's a lot better than most years when we break camp with a bunch of never weres. It seems like an All-Star game from several years ago, where everyone coming out of the pen is a stud closer. 3) Kendall did not make me excited. I laughed at the Cubs for picking him up for half a season and we sign him as a free agent. He might block the plate better, but his arm is about as good as an "injured" Estrada. Kendall lacks power, but I just realized that is a good thing. This means Ned will bat the catcher 8th or 9th, not 5th. 4) Ned is still on the team. If he doesn't prove that he's learned from last year's mistakes than Melvin messed up on this.
  8. Let's review who they "passed" on in that draft to take Brown. #36 Chadd Blasko - Released right before the 2007 season. #37 Steve Obenchain - Now plays in the Independent league #38 Matt Clanton - Released in early 2005 #39 Mark Teahen - Has played in 3 Major League seasons with a career 100 OPS+. Average ML player. #40 Mark Schramek - Has played 42 games in AA #41 Micah Schilling - Still hasn't gotten out of A ball It doesn't look like Brown at #35 was that bad of a choice.
  9. If he had been in left field at the start of last season, he most likely would have been on the opening day roster. No way. Braun was in the minors just because of the arbitration clock. The defense issue was just a cover story. If they were that worried about his defense, they would not have brought him up at the end of May when we were one of the best teams in baseball.
  10. You want to get freaked out? Go to google's home page. Type your land line phone number in the search box with no dashes (1234567890). If you are listed in the phone book, your name and address will then show up. It will easily link you to the google map of your house, where you can now see the outside of your house. And most cities are now putting their property value information online. So you can also go to the city's page, enter your address, and see information about the house. If you go to Cudahy's website and know my address you can see how much I paid for the house, how much my parents paid for it in 86, what kind of heating and ac I have, the dimentions of the house, the dimentions of the garage, etc. We're getting closer and closer to 1984.
  11. I broke my throwing ring finger when I was younger. It was during Little League season. He said I wasn't allowed to throw a ball or swing a bat for 4 weeks. However, I was growing at the time so it may be shorter. But I also didn't have to face Major League talent, so it may be longer.
  12. How much of a difference would LH, RH, RH (Prince, Braun, Hart) make vs. RH, LH, RH? I know managers sometimes prefer the alternating approach to avoid some of the later innings mismatches with the opposing bullpen. Not sure that's enough to change someone's mind but maybe it would factor in a little bit. Look at the entire line-up. If Prince is batting 3rd, it looks like this: R R L R R R R R R and if Prince is batting 4th it looks like this: R R R L R R R R R So I don't think we need to worry about L/R this year. Unless you think Gross or (shudder) Gwynn should be hitting 1-6.
  13. The problem with fantasy rankings is that they only really have any meaning within the context of fantasy baseball, as that ranking has Chone Figgins ahead of Chipper Jones. I might be biased, but I don't think YoGa is worse than Juan Pierre. I don't even know if Pierre is going to start.
  14. Because all managers know the best player should hit 3rd. Just because the stats say otherwise doesn't make it true.
  15. Ironically, I first read this thread while browsing BF.net from my US Cellular phone at school.
  16. Yeah I'm not looking forward to how much we are going to have to fork over for Braun and Fielder. I really think unless the payroll gets huge for us that we may have to pick between the two. I'd be surprised if we kept one more than a year past free agency.
  17. Uggh, Joe you made me sad. Somehow I forget that we had Abraham Nunez, but you had to bring him up. I can't wait to go to go to a get away day and see a line-up of: CF Gwynn, C Kenall, 1B Dillon, 3B Hall, SS Counsell, LF Kapler, RF Nix, 2B Nunez, P Vargas. And knowing our luck we'll win 15-3 convincing Yost to use that lineup again. /OT I think I'll keep a small seed of hate for Gwynn as long as there are people that think he can hit.
  18. Yes, those games will be blacked out. As will national broadcasts, ie the 4 games we are on FOX.
  19. For those of you that have Google Calendar: If you want the games color coded (like home games in blue and road games in gray), I added two Calendars to the public. Search for "Milwaukee Brewers" with the search public calendars button. Add these two files: Milwaukee Brewers 2008-A and Milwaukee Brewers 2008-H. Then you can set them to whatever colors you want for home and away.
  20. From Google Calendar I just looked for someone else's Brewers Clanedar and got it from there. Thanks for the info, though. I'm sure I'm not the only one to have that problem.
  21. I haven't been able to get it onto Google Calendar. I keep getting this error: Oops, we're sorry, Google Calendar is temporarily unavailable. You can cross your fingers and try again in a few minutes, or take a look at our help center for more information. I've done everything they said. I turned off all of Norton Security, reset all of my cookies, deleted my temp files, logged in and logged out, but I can not get upload that file. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  22. He might be good with kids, but he hasn't had a lot of interaction with them. Yes, Dionysus is the god of wine. When I first got him all he did was whine. Ba dum dum.
  23. Claudio Vargas would make a great long man. Someone that comes into a game that's already over in the 3rd inning just to give our good relief pitchers some rest. He might also be someone to add on to a trade. Tony Gwynn is really good at running. If it ever came down to a track meet, Gwynn would give us the win for sure. As long as he never holds a bat in his hands, he can be used by the Brewers. Johnny Boat Anchor Estrada will face the Brewers in six games this year. That should help them out.
  24. I used to be a Yankee hater, but then I started hanging around Boston sports fans. I honestly believe that they have never seen a QB besides Brady play. Any time he makes a decently good pass they will act as if he's the only person on the face of the earth that could make such a throw. Furthermore, they believe that they are superior to you if their sports team is better than your sports team. It's irritating. Wow, this sounds just like Packer fans talking about Favre. I went from cheering Boston in 2004 to hating all of their sports teams. They act like total pricks now that they won the WS. I loathe the day Cubs fans get to put that chip on their shoulder.
  25. 10 Indiana Jones Trilogy 9 Team America: World Police 8 Anchorman 7 Miracle 6 Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 5 Saving Private Ryan 4 Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back 3 Bull Durham 2 Title not appropriate in this forum.
