  1. I guess the question is if the team is confident in Taylor Green (or someone else?) to play at 2B for an extended period. I don't think Weeks has any options left, though I could be wrong. It's not a question of whether he has options left, it's that he's been in MLB too long to be optioned. A player with 5 years of experience cannot be optioned without his consent, so Rickie would have to agree.
  2. what's that mean? is it a nasty injury? something he'll just need a little rest for? any clue. It really could be anything. Your hip flexors are the muscles right at the top of your quadriceps. If it's bad, there's no way he'd be able to pitch for a couple weeks. If it's just a minor tweak, a week of rest and ice and he could be 100%.
  3. There are 7 SS's right now who have career splits over .380 OBP vs LHP. Fangraphs splits don't go back much farther than that, but I'd imagine there are plenty of guys who fill that criteria.
  4. 1) Anyone who could play SS could backup any other IF position without much of an issue if asked. Just because they didn't play somewhere else, doesn't mean they couldn't, you're overrating his versatility because he played on crappy teams without a stud SS. Had Molitor not had Yount, he probably would've played a lot more SS (for example). 2) You can pick out any specific situation and say a specific guy would be very valuable. I'd rather have Jim Thome than Mark Loretta coming in to face Eck with 2 outs and 2 on, down 2 in the 9th.
  5. So, even if you go 15 position players for each team, even if you take 10 infielders for each team, that's 80 infielders. No way Loretta touches the top 80 infielders of all time (or 120 position players). He was really, really good, and completely underutilized during his time in Milwaukee.... but the Brewers alone have had at least 3 guys in their organization who could've filled that role way better, in Molitor, Yount and Sheffield.
  6. Peanut butter jelly, peanut butter jelly....
  7. Disagree. This was his best day at the plate in about a month (that's pretty sad, but true). His balance was much better. He actually hit two balls on a line. His timing was just slightly off in his last at-bat where he hit a sky ball to 3rd. Very close to killing that pitch. His 4th ab against Romo was absolutely pathetic though. But I'm use to Weeks having 3 or 4 of those ab's every night. Baby steps. Romo makes all RHB's look pathetic. Hard to fault Weeks for that one.
  8. I will say since May the 8th, Nyjer has raised his OPS 120 points, and is OBPing .400. He's looked much better.
  9. Does the new CBA allow an "extension window" much like when the Mets traded for Santana?
  10. Losing 4 of 5 to the Astros and Twins... sigh.
  11. Let's see what I can come up with, with your cast offs. Not having Ruth, Gehrig or Williams really hurts, however. CF - Cobb 2B - Collins RF - Mantle DH - Bonds LF - Aaron 3B - Matthews 1B - Foxx SS - Wagner C - Bench Eddie Collins was really, really good. I'd probably tinker with the batting order a bit, depending on the opposing starter, but.... yeah. There's a lot of really good baseball players out there. Beyond 2-3 deep at some positions you really run dry in a hurry, however. Toughest choice: Foxx or Musial and Collins vs Lajoe.
  12. I'd rather he close. He's more useful the way dusty had been using him. Sounds like Berkman might've torn his ACL.
  13. Was this before, or after he swung so ugly on a pitch he got called out for stepping across home plate?
  14. Why bother questioning RR any more? The guy is an absolute horror of a mangaer. I want him gone, end this charade. what would he have to do to make you NOT question his lineup? I'm not asking this to be a jerk, and I would have asked it whether or not the team had 8 runs right now. It's a team with flaws, and those flaws have been magnified by injuries so there's going to be holes in the lineup. I can see wanting Ramirez in there (not that he's been great) instead of Maysonet...but he's a 33 year old with a history of missing time due to nagging injuires, and he's played 10 straight days. Guys need days off. Taylor Green can play. Edwin Maysonet should never play. Green can play 2B and 3B. There is no reason to rest Weeks and Ramirez on the same day.
  15. The point of the waivers thing is even a full year later the Rangers didn't think he was anything special. Clearly he completely changed something, or something clicked, which rarely happens to 27 year olds... otherwise we'd all be holding out hope for Ishikawa. Mench was fine, he was what he was, a lefty mashing platoon guy. The problem was Yost had no idea what a platoon or splits were. (OPS vs lefties '06, '07: .876, .901)
  16. #4- "OK, great we'll take Cordero and Mench for Carlos Lee, but I have to get Laynce Nix. You can pick another AAA guy from a list" Cruz was on waivers the next season. Every single MLB team could've had him. I'm so sick of this being called a bad trade because of him.
  17. Wood was hurt before Dusty ever got to Chicago. He had TJ in 1999, Dusty wasn't there til 2003
  18. Just dominant stuff, wish he would've stayed healthy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDgnfm3NOVY
  19. It took JJ getting run off two teams to actually get his head on straight and work out in the off season. I doubt he'd done that had he been gifted the SS job for another two years in Milwaukee.
  20. Well, at least the Giants have come back against StL.
  21. I'll post this again: http://cdn2.sbnation.com/imported_assets/1069299/Lawrie-Smash.gif He turns around, takes 4 steps towards the ump, rips off his helmet and throws it right at the ump's feet. He didn't just spike it in the heat of the moment. Blanking out and acting like a 4 year old who doesn't get his way is not a valid excuse for doing anything like that.
  22. Lucroy also would've been in AAA for half of last season (probably) had Gregg Zaun not gotten hurt and had him called up 6 weeks into 2010 straight from AA.
