  1. I didn't remember specifically it being June, but I agreed with you, it wasn't just "ridiculous speculation," it was from the people in the Brewers organization who were talking about a pre-ASB return from Nelson last year. They certainly weren't saying in May that he was on schedule and that "basically meant" 2019 unless there was a miracle. They all seemed confident he'd be back at some point. The poster that replied to you suggested it was just fans throwing out ridiculous predictions. Either way, he's back now, and I'm confident he's going to be the surprise player for us this year like Yelich was last year who picks up some of the slack from guys who performed a little better than expected did. I'm guessing it was a typo. That's the only piece of information that ever suggested June 2018. Everything else was late 2018 at the earliest, most likely 2019, and a non-negligible risk of it being career ending. But if the Brewers did indeed say mid-2018 then I stand corrected.
  2. Saw the Thurs home game vs SF and the Fri game at Seattle. Both losses. Didn't see many regulars play, Thursday was split squad and Friday was all backups and minor leaguers. Kratz hit a really deep HR on Thursday, that was the only Brewers highlight from an otherwise uneventful game. Friday was a mismatch with the Mariners' regulars going against the Brewers' B-team. Seeing Ichiro was the highlight of that game. Corbin Burnes got hammered including a nice HR from Domingo Santana. The Brewers had a ton of strikeouts and never threatened. It was a great experience, next time I'll go a little later in the spring.
  3. I was there today—agreed, the facility is impressive and something the Brewers can be proud of. One complaint—I heard the concessions used to be worse but they are still not good and the beer selection is terrible. There are a number of enticing taquerias in the surrounding neighborhood that I should have tried instead, could have had a whole meal for the price of a brat.
  4. Exactly. That's all there is to it.
  5. Luxury tax does not limit how much any individual player can earn. Same with salary cap, depending on how it’s set up. Huh? The whole point of these systems is to restrict salaries. Several teams avoided Harper/Machado bidding due to their desire to stay under the luxury tax threshold.
  6. Seriously, limit the profits an owner can make? Isn't that a bit socialistic? Imagine being a business owner, and someone says that you can only make so much in profit, if you hit that magic number, then you have to give it to someone else? Oh my, that is a slippery slope. Sounds like you are opposed to salary caps and the luxury tax?

  8. Hard to blame the players for being upset about a system that is severely rigged against them. It's terrible for the fans too. I'm sick of top prospects being stuck in the minor leagues. The system needs major reform and if a strike is what it takes, I'm all for it.
  9. I did not expect the best off-the-field sports story of 2019 to break today. What a pleasant surprise. Everything about this is amazing.
  10. You must have a strong dislike of Gomez for some reason. I mean Mike Cameron? Carlos Gomez was one of the most electric players for his short stint of greatness. To be quite frank it isn’t close. Gorman Thomas mostly played center, and prior to Yount, was the team's all-time HR leader. That's a good point. If you go by offense only, Gorman Thomas is the clear-cut #1 CF in franchise history. With defense included Gomez sneaks slightly ahead. If you throw out Gorman's -0.9 WAR year in 1986 when he returned to Milwaukee it's basically a tie.
  11. Vina had 6.0 bWAR with the Brewers...similar to Jose Hernandez (6.2) and Ronnie Belliard (5.8). Vina had one nice year in 1998 but was otherwise unremarkable. If I was going to pick a 1990s 2B/SS, Jose Valentin (11.4) is the clear winner.
  12. All-Brewers bWAR team (with some subjective position shuffling): C: Lucroy (18) 1B: Cooper (31) 2B: Ganter (22) SS: Yount (77) 3B: Money (28) LF: Braun (46) CF: Gomez (19) RF: Jenkins (22) DH: Molitor (60) Bench: Cirillo (26), Scott (23), Oglivie (22), Lezcano (19), Surhoff (16--backup catcher) SP: Higuera (31), Sheets (26), Bosio (19), Wegman (18), Caldwell (18) RP: Plesac (10), Sanders (9), Fingers (8), Crim (8), Jeffress (8)
  13. Other small market teams have increased their payroll to the $140-150 million range when contending and I have no doubt that the Brewers' final 2019 payroll will end up in that range as well.
  14. What happens if (when?) the Padres and Reds finish with win totals in the mid-70s. Will anyone ever spend money again?
  15. 10 years, $300 million. Wowza. Edit: some sources reporting an opt-out after 5 years???
  16. It's not my cup of tea either but I think he's a pretty good rapper.
  17. He's really good, it seems like your issue might be with the genre.
  18. I disagree about Perez, he is the key to making this work. Perez is a pretty good option against lefties...consistent .780 to .800 OPS against lefties. Moustakas isn't terrible against lefties. Shaw is more likely to get platooned in this configuration.
  19. I'm only going to remember this guy for giving up that hit in game 7 that lead to Puig's dagger.
  20. If the Brewers launched a similar partnership (with this particular media group) I would be furious. As a non-fan of the Cubs I hope it backfires.
  21. [sarcasm]Rickie Weeks is only 36 and put up a .777 OPS in 2016![/sarcasm]
  22. I see this signing as an indication that we are not going to get an infielder who actually has a chance to contribute this year. I also have fond memories of his potential but I question why we are doing this. We're not getting him for free, he's going to take playing time and ABs away from other potential infield options. Is the 2B market really that bad? I hope it works out of course but I predict he will be released without ever seeing the big league club.
  23. Here in Seattle we had 4-8" of snow overnight, the biggest snowstorm in decades. I got to shovel for the first time since I lived in Wisconsin! Really heavy wet stuff. Surprisingly the city did fairly well with the heavy snow. Lesson learned from previous disasters. The funniest thing was the run on grocery stores before the storm started.
  24. This is an old school Badgers team that knows how to grind through the Big Ten schedule and win on the road. Not pretty but effective.
  25. 100% this. I don’t understand this. The pitching/hitting balance is clearly out of whack and teams are manipulating the rules to the detriment of the entertainment value of the game. Ballparks are nearly empty in the 8th inning because nobody wants to sit through a bullpen chess match. It has no historical precedent in baseball history, it’s a new and undesired change. The whole idea is to restore the game to a cleaner form. The game used to be faster. There used to be less pitching changes. They already abandoned the bad ideas like illegal defense. I don’t worry about the Brewers. They are smart and will adapt to whatever the new rules are.
