  1. Rogers is like a god to me. For him to be this successful this year after completely missing the last 2 years is awesome. In my mind he has fully regained is uber-prospect status. He should still stay in the minors the entire year next year, hopefully he is ready to go 150-175 innings for the Crew in 2011. Now if only Braddock could get turned back into a start next year..... There are going to be a ton os SP prospects in Huntsville next year so I would think he'll stay a reliever in Hunstville are be given a shot at starting in AAA. I guess it all depends on his health in ST next year.
  2. I don't know, Rogers year has got me super pumped about him as well. I just have a hard time getting excited about a reliever no matter how good he is. If Jeffress ever stopped being a moron how awesome would it be to have a AA rotation next year of Rogers, Braddock, Jeffress, Peralta, and Scarpetta? It would be glorious. That is of course assuming Braddock gets moved back into the rotation. I hope they are just babying him this year because a talent like that seems wasted in the bullpen. Assuming most of our pitching prospects continue to mature in 2009 and 2010 Melvin is going to have a ton of young arms at his disposal to fill out the MLB rotation and offer as trade bait.
  3. The Woodman's in Appleton has good produce, never really had an issue with it. I have never got anything from the deli there. I avoid produce at Walmart like the plague. There are fruit flies everywhere. Walmart has its uses but selling fruits and vegetables isn't one of them
  4. Mercury Marine, an employer of roughly 1,800 currently and as much as 3,000 in there heyday are packing up and leaving FDL for the sweet pastures of Oklahoma with the move complete within the next 24-36 months. So a town of 40,000 just lost 1,800 jobs directly and it is anticipated that as many as 5,000 jobs will be lost due to many suppliers etc that have been dependent on Mercury Marine. So yeah, it seems like FDL is pretty much screwed. Not one of the towns better days. The loss of Mercury Marine might even put the future of Walleye Weekend in doubt. Walleye Weekend might be what FDL is best known for but now it has lost its biggest sponsor. It really is a terrible situation, the economy is so terrible that Merc couldn't just sit around and do nothing, their complex is way to big and inefficent just because they don't need to produce as much as they have in the past. Mercury Marine hasn't been lambasted to much for the decision, everyone realizes that the economy is down a lot and that Merc probably had to do something to reorganize into a more compact and efficient company. The community is really letting the union have it. It probably isn't the union members fault though, their leadership came across as incredibly arrogant in the media and as a result the community really turned against them as a whole. It was just a bad bad situation but not all that unexpected. It sure will be odd to see the company's huge complex just sit there, I would guess it will become a huge eyesore. It is just to big for anyone to purchase, the whole thing will probably have to be bulldozed
  5. I guess I don't see how $80 a month is even possible. My wife and I spend like $150-175 every 2 weeks and I still feel like we didn't get enough food and we are scavenging by the end of the two weeks
  6. I would love to sign the guy long term, based on current finances the team could probably afford it, but if attendance ever dropped to under 2 million again, the Crew might have a hard time rounding out the team. I think 6/90 would probably be in the ballpark but I just have a hard time believing that Fielder is not going to test FA. I would imagine Boston, NY, and the Angels would make huge offers to Fielder to play either DH or 1B. Probably can't count out teams like the Mets, Dodgers, and Cubs either. I just have a feeling that Fielder will play out the 2011 year, and the Crew will make a huge effort to get him to come back (Kind of like CC) but someone else just blows us out of the water. The only way Fielder gets traded is if in either 2010 or 2011 the team is just terrible and he gets traded at the trading deadline. I would be shocked if he ever get traded during an offseason because it would probably have a huge effect on the upcoming season ticket sales. At least if you trade the guy in July, 85% of your tickets are already sold for the year
  7. Bill had a pretty solid debut for the Mariners last night playing LF. 2-4 and a couple RBI's
  8. Better than nothing, even if the Mariners just have to pay the veteran minimum, we still are saving like $400,000. Kinda suprised that Jack Z picked him up because he was front row and center to Hall's terrible 2008 season.
  9. How exactly was Melvin suppose to know that Hardy was going to suck so much this year. f Hardy repeated his success in 2009 his trade value would have been even higher than after 2008. Melvin also probably wasn't comfortable having Escobar as the opening day SS. How many young power arms actually got traded this past offseason? I can't imagine there were too many and their is a reason for that. Teams don't trade that type of talent. You can fault Melvin all you want for failing to draft quality pitching but you can hardly fault him for not trading for young pitching talent because it is damn near impossible to acquire unless you are trading a CC Sabathia or the like, not Hardy or Hart.
  10. Win today, beat up on Pitt & Washington, get within 5 games or so, then we get the chance to beat the teams in front of us including a ton of games against the Cards. Playoffs are still highly unlikely but I feel a little bit better than I did after Game #1 of the Padres series
  11. LuCroy with another 2 hits tonight. I am getting pretty excited about the kid. I would like to see more power out of him, but he has a ridiculous K/BB ratio. 65BB to only 56K is pretty awesome. Every where he has gone he has hit, it just took him a bit longer this year. In 78 AB's since the AA All Star break is OPS is an awesome 1.027. His home road splits are a bit puzzling though. It will be a very interesting offseason. Either one of Salome or LucRoy gets traded or one of them is in the Bigs
  12. If Rivera isn't starting the day after he hits 2 HR's you know that Macha has just an idiot. Not to mention that Parra has pitched pretty effectivly with Rivera behind the plate. I mean Rivera just doubled Kendall HR total in about 45 minutes. Kendall was lucky to even have a HR, his HR at MinuteMaid would have been an out in every single other park
  13. PLatooning Escobar is just @%+##+$ (Dumb Filter Wasn't even Bad). So they want to screw him up just like they screwed up Gamel. Yeah real smart. The future infield in Milwaukee is obviously McGehee, COunsell, and Lopez. Give me a freaking break. You are just going to screw the kid up. What if we don't face a lefty for an entire week? I like Escobar being up but a platoon situtation is just an idiotic idea.
  14. Here is my 2 cents on the whole Escobar ordeal. Yeah he only has a .750ish OPS in AAA but with the amount of singles he turns into doubles or even triples via the stolen base his actual OPS is probably in excess of .800. If he ever develops power than get the hell out of the guys way. I mean really what is the difference between Hardy hitting a double and Escobar singling and stealing 2nd? According to OPS Hardy is the better player but they both ended up in the same spot. Yeah Escobar will get thrown out some but I would be willing to bet that Escobar will single and steal a heck of a lot more than Hardy will double. Not to mention Escobar scoring more easily from 2nd on a single or 1st on a double, not to mention the superior range that Escobar has compared to Hardy. Escobar is ready.
  15. Yeah I don't get the point of that, that is unless Ridnour end up going somewhere so we end up needing a backup. I don't think it would be a good idea for a competition between Jennings & Telfair for a starting spot, given their personalities it just seems like it wouldn't end well.
  16. Don't go to the Primanti's in the stadium though. It is an expensive knock off of the real thing. Go to the actual restuarant
  17. I would disagree on your assesment that we don't have any level pitching prospects. We have a ton of good prospects that will be in High A, AA, and maybe AAA next year. Those guys certainly hold a ton of value in any potential trade. If the Royals really need a mid level pitching prospect that Brewers certainly have that. At this very moment the only thing the Crew is lacking is upper level major league ready pitching prospects, they don't have any shortage of mid-level.
  18. Seems like these guys are just complaining just for the sake of complaining. There are a lot of other proposed tax increased that are far more than .1% so whats the big deal. It could be argued that more people are benefitting from this measly tax than they are from the increase in property taxes and the proposed tax increase for mass transit. Yes the Brewers have benefitted from public financing but the public has also benefitted greatly from the tax as well. Not only because of the improved team which is at least partially due to the stadium but also increased jobs, community pride, among other things
  19. Despite his crappiness what is the point of batting one of our top prospects in the #7 spot? I mean Joe Koshansky is hitting #5. They gotta get Gamel as many PAs as possible not move him down the order. I know all teams try to win to some extent but you would tihnk Melvin & company would want him at the top no matter what
  20. I don't think he got nearly enough AB's in Milwaukee to level him a streaky hitter like LaRoche. He had about a one week stretch where he got consistent playing time, besides that he got some pinch hits and an occasional start but I hardly saw enough of him to draw any conclusions. Frankly I am going to put way more weight into is Pre-MLB AAA stats than his Post-MLB AAA stats because he completely lost confidence and completely lost his swing. The guy isn't going to be a Braun, but I still think that he could easily be a .300 hitter with 20-25 home runs. Now maybe that isn't "untouchable" but players like that don't grow on trees.
  21. So is Dusty guilty again? Can't get to the right site at work to check the PAP or pitch counts for Volquez since Sir Dusty's arrival
  22. Duchsherer would be a decent buy low candidate after is injury plagued 2009. Same with Tim Hudson. I knida doubt ATL is going to pick up his option. I think we will need at least 2 solid pitchers this offseason so i don't think Doug is going to break the bank on the top 1-3 guys like Lacke or Harden. That is unless he could trade a Hardy, Hart, etc for a good major league ready prospect.
  23. Just my humble opinion but our best case scenario for next year is probably 45 wins, worst case is 30. I was a huge Bucks fan in the Big 3 era but the Bucks were dead to me when Ray Allen was traded for a bunch of crap. I really want them to succeed but I just don't see it. They are meerly average at spots 1-5 without any real superstar. Their is just nothing to get excited about. I think Jennings could be a star and I have always liked Bogut but Bogut isn't the type of guy that is going to be the star of a team. He is a very solid 5 but he can't be the "Go To Guy". With Redd likely gone next year I would like them to go after a big time FA but it seems extremely unlikely that the Bucks are going to be able to make an impact FA signing unless they pull a 50 win season out of their butt this year. I think a new arena outside of downtown would do that team a ton of good but I don't think that is going to happen anytime in the near future. I am sure I will watch them on TV but nothing about going to a Bucks game in the Bradley Center excites me.
  24. He would be a pretty good sell high candidate thats for sure. By himself he won't get a major piece back but packaged with a JJ Hardy or Corey Hart and we might be able to get a #2 or a #3.
  25. O jeez. Hart was actually playing pretty decent over the last couple of weeks. I think Hall should be able to play RF just fine but it is going to take a lot of convincing before I believe that Hall's bat can play a corner outfield spot for an extended period of time. I am definitely hoping that he succeeds, both because it would help out the Brewers plus his "Value" would go up.
