  1. Do we even have the budget for Garza? We would have get someone to take Weeks and part of his contract right?
  2. If it is Arroyo or any pitcher with draft compensation attached I will be pissed. If it Garza on a reasonable deal or even someone like Santana I will be fine. It just better not be anything stupid; we finally have a decent high draft pick for a change.
  3. Hey the won last night!!! And Butler managed to jack up a shot basically every time he touched the ball. At least he was making his shots last night; the guy is just a black hole.
  4. I could get behind Garza as he would immediately improve the weakest area of the team; but offering 5/75 would be a major mistake. Maybe 4/50 or something similar would work by 5 years is too long. I don't think for a second we are actually signing Garza but Garza, Gallardo, Lohse, Peralta, and either Estrada or Thornburg would be pretty solid. It also might allow for a trade of one the back end starters for something useful.
  5. Also an important game for UW at Minnesota tonight. Not optimistic they will go into the barn and win based off their last two performances. Minnesota gets some pretty solid guard play.
  6. I still think that if the majority of our players play to their potential that this could be a Wild Card team. They aren't capable of winning it all but I don't think playoffs are a huge stretch with the 2nd wildcard. Craizer things have happened. The Crew has enough offensive talent to be a playoff team; obviously it will come down to how well guys like Gallardo, Peralta, and Thornburg pitch.
  7. Even if Parker and Embiid stay in school the Bucks should still at least be in a position to get oone of Randle, Wiggins, or Exum if they draft in the Top #3. I really lake Randle's size down low but do we really need another #4. Obviously I take Wiggins if he is available; if not I would say Exum is my next choice.
  8. Or they don't want to end up in the basketball hell that is Milwaukee. Embiid maybe I could buy staying but Parker is the clear front runner to be the #1 pick right now. I just don't think he can pass that up. I really wonder if not wanting to play in a place like MIL will factor into the early entry decision. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe they have to declare for the draft before knowing where the ping pong balls fall.
  9. There are only so many 1B rep to be had in Spring Training. Between Francisco, Overbay, Reynolds, Halton, and Morris someone isn't going to get any time. Halton and Morris probably have a huge uphill battle just to get in games.
  10. Crap meet wall. Wall meet crap. Spring Training will include a lot of feces throwing over at 1st base.
  11. Marcus Smart at #4 would be an OK pick; but at #1 it would be a disaster. You simply can't pick him over Parker, Wiggins, and probably Embiid. If you love Smart that bad then you trade out of the #1 spot. It is not like Smart has been all that impressive this year. I think he has taken a step back from his performance last year as a freshman. I am not going to get too worked up on those veteran comments for now; because I don't think there is anyone actually dumb enough to trade for veterand not one 1 year deals when you have the worst team in the league. Maybe Hammond would trade his crap for someone elses's crap but unless you get draft picks in return I can't see even Hammond being dumb enough to trade guys like Henson, Sanders, or Knight.
  12. The recipe to defeat UW in the tourney is definitely dribble penetration. That has proven to be their single biggest weakness so far. UW probably can score with just about anyone this year but if they run into a team with quick guards that can finish at the rim they are definitely in trouble. Overall you still have to be happy sitting at 16-2 but the last 2 games have been pretty dissappointing.
  13. I guess I don't buy the whole "being in his hometown increased his performance" thing. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I don't know what happened last year but I still think he is capable of putting up an 800 OPS in the big leagues if given the chance. But I am also completely OK giving him at least a couple months in AAA to start 2014 in hopes that he rediscovers 2012. Not sure how Morris, Halton, and Jason Rogers being on the same team is going to work though.
  14. I don't see any scenario other than Morris hitting like .500 in Spring Training that he beats out a "proven veteran" like Reynolds. Maybe I overreacted a bit on the nail in the coffin bit but by not even giving Morris a cup of coffee in September and talking about the likes of Ike Davis and Mark Reynolds it appears obvious that Melvin has no interest in putting his cards with Morris.
  15. Its too bad that Ersan is having such a terrible year; otherwise he would be very valuable to someone looking for some additional offense. Sanders is worthless in a trade right now and you wouldn't get squat for Mayo, Butler, or Neal either. Maybe Hammond will continue his trend of trading young fairly good players for no apparent reason (Leuer, Harris, Meeks) and trade Henson. Henson could definitely get you back in the 1st round; not that I am actually advocating trading him. He has been a pretty solid player thus far. He does need to come up with another post move other than the lefty hook though.
  16. Yeah if this doesn't put a nail in Morris' coffin then I don't know what would. Melvin obviously doesn't think much of him. Maybe he can start out hot in 2014 and we could trade him for someone we actually want.
  17. Based on the rest of the NBA I see them ending with no worse than the 2nd worst record. It sure seems to be between Orlando and Milwaukee. As long as they get a Top 4 pick they should get a player that can improve the team immediately. Parker, Wiggins, Randle, Exum, Smart, or Embiid would all very nice additions. I just wish this years draft class was a bit more guard heavy because that is really where MIL needs the most help. My vote is still for Parker right now. It would probably be too much to ask to trade off some guys and get another 1st rounder in the 10-20 range; but that would be nice if possible
  18. He put up a 700 OPS last year but in the not to distant past he was also above 800. The hope here is that getting out of the AL East and getting to play in MIL have the time should improve those numbers. He also walks at a decent clip which is nice. Minor League contract so no huge risk here. No one should expect that he will hit 250 with 40 homers or anything like that but 230 BA, 320 OBP and 25 homers sounds realistic. If you can get that out of your 6/7 spot in the lineup you have to be pretty happy.
  19. Supposedly it is a minor league deal. If that is the case this is basically a no brainer for the Crew and would be a nice low risk pick up
  20. My redemption plan for him is pretty simple 1. Stop doing PED's - Or atleast don't get caught 2. Hit for an OPS of 900+ Pretty simple if you ask me. Perform and many will forget. Hell this already seems like ancient news.
  21. Reynolds had a .700 OPS last year and an OPS+ of 96. While that would be a tremendous improvement over the crap MIL put out at 1st last year; a .700 OPS is hardly something to look forward to at 1st. I would think some combination of Francisco, Halton, and Morris could do the same thing. But if Reynolds is cheap then I would be OK giving him a shot. Maybe we could get lucky and he can duplicate his years from 2009 or 2011 and put up an 800 OPS with 30 + HRs. Getting out of the AL East and getting to play a bunch of games in MIL, CIN, and CHI shouldn't hurt him either
  22. I am excited about the raw ability of David Denson; however he only was at Rookie ball in 2013. My ultimate hope is that Denson turns into a stud prospect and Morris/Halton can hold down the fort for the next 2 years. Denson has more raw power than anyone in the system and has shown an ability to take a walk early in his career. Obviously a long way to go for him but if there is a guy in MILB that gives me hope for a long term solution; its him. For that reason I wouldn't want to commit to anyone for more than 2 years; so Morris and Halton for now suits me just fine. If they turn into good players thats great.
  23. I will 2nd the concerns about dribble penetration. That is probably a blue print to beat UW right now. Fast quick guards that can penetrate; no one could stay in front of Ferrel. Obviously UW has no interior presence to put up a fight if they do get into the lane. UW was also broke from 3 in the 2nd half and had a lot of looks; perhaps on a normal night they knock a couple of those down and win. UW will still be fine; probably will end up with 3-4 losses and a seed somewhere around 2-4. Come tourney time the poor on ball defense and rebounding are major problems depending on what their draw looks like. Jackson had a great shot going last night; but he absolutely should be a SG and not a PG. He is just not very natural as a PG and makes some questionable decisions.
  24. Jackson also had a couple bone headed turnovers again. UW did miss a lot of open 3's in the 2nd half. A game like this was bound to happen. Still a 3 point loss on the road to a good team isn't a bad loss by any means. Dekker needs to step up his game again; he was MIA during a large part of the game today
  25. Of all our young pitchers I have always liked Nelson the best (Other than Peralta). I believe he has the best stuff in the group and outside of a BB issue last year for a time he has been great. I understand that Thornburg is probably the favorite to land that 5th spot but if Doug swings a trade with one of our starters I would hesitate to plug Nelson in there. I am very confident in him; he probably will never be an all star but he certainly can be above league average.
