  1. O I get having Brantley is better than having CC leave for nothing. But they were expecting and should have gotten more for a dominant pitcher like CC. If they could have gotten anything from LaPorta they would be feeling better. LaPorta wasn't a can't miss prospect but he was very highly ranked by basically everyone at the time and everyone missed.
  2. Isn't he pretty much the only guy in that CC trade that ever amounted to anything? Even with Brantley being a moderate success that trade was a trainwreck for Cleveland. When CC was pitching for the Brewers that was about as close as must see TV as is possible for me. He was incredible.
  3. Yesterday was one of those days at my job where I was thinking I have 300 business cards from folks in my business sitting in my desk and I could have a new job in a month so why am I putting up with this crap. Sometimes people in management positions can be complete [expletive deleted] and really have no idea how much they depend on everyone else to make them look good.
  4. I just happened to look at the extended forecast and saw some temperatures starting with a 3 and 4 next week. I have never looked forward so much to above freezing temperatures as I have this year. Probably will be a lot of flooding issues this year. With the ground frozen so deep there won't be any place for the snow runoff to go.
  5. If the Brewers have the money to sign relievers to help the big league club and sign long projects like this than that is the best of both worlds. Mark A has always wanted to field a good MLB team and hopefully this is a sign they will be involved in the high level international market now too. But this kid is so far away from even Low A Wisconsin that I can't really get to excited about him. We know next to nothing.
  6. I just can't get excited about the Winter Olympics other than cool stuff like the Luge and Bobsled. Summer Olympics are way more awesome. That is probably only because so many more summer athletes have name recognition; I basically know absolutely no one on the winter olympic team other than Shaun White and Bode Miller.
  7. $3.25 Million is a bit more than I expected; but its not absurd or anything. Last I heard is Gorzo is unlikely to be ready. You have Smith who is more of a multi inning guy. I wouldn't be real excited if Duke is our loogy. I am hoping Blazek somehow makes the team; he has got some potential
  8. I really wouldn't have a huge problem with that either. He won't be that expensive and will be a perfectly acceptable set up man. I like having that extra guy with closing experience in case Henderson suddenly gets Turnbow syndrome
  9. I still think everyone is seriously underestimating Peralta. I also think there is a pretty solid chance we get more than 1 WAR out of LF and 1B. Overall I am a lot more optimistic than what the pundits are projecting so far. That is probably just my Brewer colored glasses but Peralta in my opinion almost surely will be better than that
  10. They better start winning some games again; they aren't close to the bubble yet but with a few more bad losses they might be. They can also kiss playing in Milwaukee goodbye. They aren't nearly as bad as they are playing right and you never know if they get hot at the right time but I just don't seem them advancing very far. Just a complete inability to stop competent guard play
  11. Even someone like CJ Fair out of Syracuse would be a nice get if the Bucks could someone get back into the mid 1st round through manuveuring. There are some decent shooters that should be available from 15-30.
  12. I think Embiid only falls into the equation if one or both of Wiggins and Parker don't declare or if the Bucks fall to #3 or worse. The Bucks piack #1 or #2 and both Parker and Wiggins declare I just cant see them passing them up in favor of a "project" that is Embiid. Herb Kohl is impatient; he will probably tell Hammond to take the more NBA ready player. I still go with Parker if we get the #1; but performances in the NCAA tournament will go a long ways towards deciding spots #1-5. If Parker, Wiggins, Embid, Randle, Smart, etc just blow up in the tourney you can move up a lot of draft boards
  13. Let's assume we get the 2012 Garza and Gallardo and the 2013 Lohse, Peralta & Estrada. The numbers are: Garza: 3.91 ERA, 1.17 WHIP Gallardo: 3.66 ERA, 1.33 WHIP Lohse: 3.35 ERA, 1.16 WHIP Peralta: 4.37 ERA, 1.41 WHIP Estrada: 3.87 ERA, 1.07 WHIP I would gladly take those numbers althought I think Peralta is pretty likely to be better than that in 2014. None of that seems unattainable altough it would be nice to have somebody step up and have a 3.0 ERA or below year.
  14. I am not to worried about 1st base possibly being below average just because we will also likely be getting above average offense from several positions that you normally don't expect (SS, CF, and C). The offense is good enough that we don't need great production out of 1st. Yeah it would be nice but they will still score plenty of runs regardless and it doesn't pay to trade away what farm assets we do have to improve the strongest part of the team already. I am confident that Lohse, Estrada, and Peralta will produce like we expect them to. If Garza is healthy there is no reason to believe he won't be good as well. But we can't afford Gallardo 2013 all over again. He needs to be better.
  15. The Brewers W/L record last year had nothing to do with Lohse. He ended up being a great pick up for Year #1 and certainly wasn't the reason we stunk. If Braun, Hart, and Ramirez hadn't missed so many games perhaps Lohse would have been the difference in making the playoffs. I am certainly glad that we have Lohse going into this year. He has been a great pitcher the last 2 years; a sub 1.20 WHIP for 3 straight years with an ERA+ of 133 and 117 in 2012/2013. Pretty nice deal at $11 Million even with the lost draft pick.
  16. Locks; Henderson Kintzler Thornburg Smith Other Big League invites: Blazek Burgos De La Torre Duke Fiers Figaro Goforth Gorzo Hall Hand Hellweg Molleken (?) Nelson Olmsted Pena Shackelford Wang Wooten Now however in that last group gets the last spots will be inexperienced but there is also a lot of good raw stuff there. Goforth and Shackleford probably won't make it initially but those guys are very intriguing bullpen guys. Gorzo probably makes it if he is healthy. My best guess is that Blazek and Figaro have a head up for the last couple spots. Wang is the Rule 5 so he would have to make the 25 or released.
  17. I would just assume go with what we have now; especially if it takes any talent at all to get Ike. Either you go big and get someone much better than Ike or you sit back and hope for the best with what you have
  18. I think the deal ended up even better than what everyone thought. Only $50 Million guaranteed plus we could possibly have him for cheap in that 5th year. The key is still Gallardo. If he shows improvement over last year the rotation should be pretty strong. I am confident that Lohse and Estrada will be their normal selves and that Peralta will take a step forward. We really have 5 #2/#3 starters. No dominant aces but also no major holes. Plus we have guys like Thornburg, Nelson, Jungmann, etc who can step in and perform reasonably well if needed.
  19. Exum at #4 and Harris at #11 would be awesome if you ask me. We finally would have some quality guard play to go along with the big guys. Although I should say that I am pleasantly surprised by Knight. Knight and Exum would be a nice 1/2 with Harris providing some scoring off of the bench. Wolters can be that 4th guard in the rotation
  20. Also did anyone notice the line Tobias Harris put up the other night? 28 points and 20 rebounds. Sure glad we got 1/2 year of JJ Redick and a 4 game playoff beat down for Harris.
  21. If we lose Garza because he wants 13/13/13/13 and we want 10/12/15/15 that would be ridiculous. Seems like a pretty petty issue; our payroll isn't going to be intolerable in 2014 if we pay him $10 Million or $13 Million.
  22. Our rotation won't be the best in the league but with the offense that we have it should be plenty good enough to keep us in contention. I think Estrada gets the #5 spot just because he is more of a sure thing that Thornburg. We definitely should keep both Thornburg and Nelson because Gallardo and Lohse won't be around forever. But guys like Hellweg, Pena, Jungmann could/should be dangled around to see if we could get a better situation at 1st. Unless the Brewers make way more money than we know; DM has to find some salary relief somewhere. Trading Rickie seems like the most likely scenario. I really like the deal.
  23. Every year DM does something like this. There was not even a hint the Brewers were interested at all. This probably will sell some tickets
  24. I said right away that 4/50 is what I would be OK with. I am would be very happy if this works out.
  25. Garza would immediately improve my outlook for the team in 2014; and I already was more optimistic than most.
