  1. Apparently the Bucks might never win a game again. Good news is that Giannis has played pretty well the last couple games. Bad news is Sanders has continued his horrific play. Sanders looks to be coasting after getting his big pay day. At least Drew is playing the young guys now; Butler, Neal, and Mayo have all had their minutes reduced pretty significantly. I was thing how promising this team might look if Tobias Harris was still on the team. Yeah maybe we wouldn't be as bad as we are and maybe they wouldn't have taken Giannis if Harris was penciled in at SF but a young team around Parker, Giannis, Harris, and Henson would have been fun.
  2. Marquette probably has to win out just to make the tourney now; not good. 9-7 with only a couple of strong teams remaining.
  3. I am looking forward to Star Wars and Jurassic Park. With the advancement in technology; I am hoping both of these movies are visually amazing. The Star Wars release might be the most anticipated of the group and perhaps of all time so long as the initial reviews are good. Star Wars is huge to a lot of people.
  4. Next year they should be just as good if not better. They only lose Brust and everyone has another year of experience. Plus they are bringing in some size next year. Badgers are great this year and assuming Dekker comes back they will be great again next year and probably should be the preseason favorite in the B10 since OSU and MSU will have a lot of graduations/losses next year.
  5. As much as I love how UW is playing; I am still scared to death that they will get a 1/2 seed and then just blow chunks in the tournament. They have had so many early flame outs and with the complete lack of size I am still worried they will run into a team that just kills them inside. I want myself to believe that this is team can make a Final 4; but I just can't bring myself to become optimistic. If they get to play in MIL I can't imagine them not at least making the 2nd weekend though. The good news is that this team does not rely on only 1-2 shooters; basically everyone on the team can score. In years past this team is relied very heavily on 1 or 2 guys and if they happened to have an off night in the tourney than UW was basically screwed.
  6. Yeah you definitely have to take the top player on your board. I would just be curious how you fill out a lineup with Giannis, Henson, and Parker on the court at the same time. Between Giannis and Parker I don't know which player would be better suited to play SG; probably Parker. Wiggins would seem to be a better fit for the Bucks team but I haven't really been impressed with him
  7. Bucks odds of getting a Top #3 pick are looking really good right now. As of today they have 3 less wins than the next crappiest team. They are at 7 wins with a bunch of teams at 10-11. Not a whole lot of winnable games coming up either. I hope Hammond is making an effort to trade some veterans. I have no idea who the Bucks would pick at #1. Wiggins and Parker are both SF and that is also Giannis' natural position. You can't really move Giannis to #4 I don't think. I think you would just have to play a really big lineup. Knight, Parker, Giannis, Henson, and Sanders would be a huge starting 5 but they might struggle to score until Giannis develops his offensive game a bit more. I probably would pick Parker right now if I had to choose. Wiggins has been a little underwhelming. Randle at Kentucky is another option but do we really need another big man? Exum, Gordon, and Embid are also in the picture but I don't think are worthy of a #1. Maybe if the Bucks trade down or fall to #3.
  8. collegebasketballtalk has their first "bracketology" out and they have WI as a #1 seed with Villanova, Iowa State, and Colorado as the 2-4 seeds. That would be an amazing draw for UW if that were to ever happen. Plus they have us playing our opening round games in Milwaukee. This would be about the most favorable draw UW could possibly get. Unfortunately Marquette is nowhere to be found; not even the last 10 out. They need to win a ton of games including against Villanova to have any shot at all.
  9. That was a very entertaining game last night. It was a good sign that Dekker struggled so mightily and they still managed to pull it out. He did come up big at the end though. I got the sense that Bo was getting frustrated with Jackson last night; he had some dumb turnovers. Koenig may only be a freshman and probably doesn't have the offensive game of Jackson yet but he will probably get some more meaningful minutes. The January schedule plays out pretty well for UW; they could be undefeated going into the OSU game at the beginning of February. My money would be on them slipping up somewhere (@Minnesota or @ Indiana being possibilities) though.
  10. I would still never part with Thornburg. I would give up Pena or Hellweg; but Thornburg showed too much potential in late 2013 to trade him from Ike Davis. Its not like Thornburg is a soft tossing finesse pitcher either; he has legitimate stuff
  11. If Doug really wanted Davis he could have already acquired him unles the Mets are still being dumb and asking for Thornburg. I think he is still trying to find some alternatives and Davis is a fall back option in late January or February if Doug can't come up with something better. My feeling is that the starting 1st basemen in 2014 will still be someone that no one has yet discussed. Melvin has pulled off trades that no one had any idea of before.
  12. This all assumes that the Brewers exercise tha option and that would only realistically happen if Ramirez is both healthy and productive in 2014. If that truly happens paying $14 Million for Ramirez (Assuming we don't have a 3rd basemen in waiting) seems perfectly acceptable to me. If he sucks you pay the buyout and be done with it. The point is that if his 2014 season warrants the option be exercised you might as well offer the qualifying offer for $15 Million if he declines. If he accepts you have a $14 Million player coming off a good year. Now I am not sure how good he needs to be in 2014 to warrant the option be exercised; but he probably better play in atleast 130 games or so. That means maybe one 15 day DL stint tops.
  13. If you are going to pay him $14 Million anyways you might as well make the qualifying offer at $15 Million. Maybe you get lucky and someone like NYY or LAD have giant hole to file at 3rd and need him. If no one wants him then you have him for another year at $15 Million. By offering to pay the extra $1 Million you are guaranteeing yourself either another year of a 3rd basemen coming off a good year or a 1st round pick. Seems like a good situation to be in.
  14. I am sure they could post the $20 Million fee and make some kind of offer; but the odds of actually signing Tanaka seem like next to nothing. All the high payroll teams will certainly be bidding and would Tanaka really sign with MIL? That is probably questionable in and of itself. If the Crew wanted to add another starter it might be Ubaldo. I don't think Melvin is going to be in the FA SP market at all; but Ubaldo is a lot more likely than Tanaka.
  15. Aren't Colvin and Gamel basically the same guy. Both had great MILB numbers and primarily due to injuries never took off in the bigs. I would prefer Gamel to Colvin.
  16. Apparently the Bucks are shopping Larry Sanders right now. Way to sell low Hammond. I don't think they would get squat for him right now. If you can get a mid first round pick then I would be OK trading him but I don't think that is happening.
  17. Yeah there is no way that draft proposal goes anywhere. The small market teams get absolutely screwed. Can you imagine if MIA got the first pick next year? I don't know why the NBA screws with the draft so much. Both MLB and NFL are pretty straightforward; by the reverse standings. I don't know why the NBA feels the need to be different anyways. The only thing the "wheel" would accomplish is the removal of tanking; however it opens up scores of other problems. Most notably parity and competitiveness. What if this was in place now and the Bucks weren't scheduled for another Top 5 pick for 5 years. It would be absolutely awful with basically no hope for an extended period of time.
  18. Jamey Wright is still in the league at 39 and just signed a one year contract with LAD. The guy continues to amaze; I always thought he was a bum but he certianly put together a nice long career and has made plenty of money.
  19. Marquette it definitely looking like a bubble team. Assuming that they beat the teams they should they absolutely need a win or two against Villanova or Creighton. Probably the best they can hope for is a 7 if everything goes great in conference. Too bad Duane Wilson got hurt because I think he could have made a big difference so far this year. They have been so underwhelming
  20. 1. Advancement of such guys as Roache, Denson, Williams, Taylor, Arcia, Coulter, etc to the point that we have at least a couple guys in the Top #100 for prospects; hopefully Top #50 but that is probably pushing it 2. No or minimal regression from Gomez & Segura 3. Healthy Aram & Braun holding down the 3/4 spots 4. Progression of Peralta; probably the single most important pitcher we have; if he turns into that stud then watch out 5. More wins at the MILB level; watching those Link Report standings gets awfully depressing when all to often our teams are terrible
  21. His HR rates and walk rates have both improved the farther he has gotten along but that BA has been all over the place. I really don't know what to make of him; I really want him to be our 1B of the future but he is an enigma. If he does indeed start at AAA this year I would need to see considerable improvement for me to think he has sticking power. If you can't OPS 800+ repeating AAA then he probably just is a AAAA type player.
  22. I am a little fearful of platooning multiple positions at the same time. Your bench becomes pretty limited if you are going with a strict LH/RH platoon at 2 or 3 positions. You have a backup catcher who very rarely will pinch hit and then you may have 3 guys that all hit from the same side of the plate. Someone whether it be 1B, 2B, or LF will have to establish themselves as every day hitters so DM and RR have some flexilibility in filling out there bench spots. 2B seems like the safest bet to assume a platoon, maybe even if it is just soft. I think Davis will be given every opportunity to start every day and only god knows whats going to happen at 1st base. Even if you want platoons they should be on a very soft basis; Davis and Gennet should have 5 out of every 7 games to start the year. If they prove they can't handle it then maybe you make the platoon strictly LH/RH or give Rickie some games against right handers. If Rickie is on the roster he is almost surely going to be given an opportunity to play though; even if Gennet is declared the starter I have a hard time believing Rickie won't see the field 2 or 3 times a week. He also would likely serve as DH in the AL parks.
  23. I always much prefer these larger snow storms when they land on the weekend. I absolutely hate having to get up at 5 AM to clean out my driveway in the middle of the week. A projected 7 inches for Fondy; looks like we are on the outer skirts of the heavy snow and not projected to get as much as the MIL area.
  24. I really wish Morris would have followed up his .925 OPS at AA with even an .800 at AAA last year; we probably wouldn't even be having this discussion. I would be willing to give him a shot if our other options are middling aging veterans. If the Brewers brass has any hope that his true talent is closer to what he did in AA than what he did in AAA last year; they have to give him a shot. He has decent power for a 1B; K and BB rates were more or less the same in 2012 and 2013. His BA just fell off quite a bit; was it BABIP related? I would love for Morris, Halton, or Rogers to be a good long term solution at 1B; Morris seems like has the most upside
  25. Yuni has about 1,000 PA's. 2-3 more seasons with the Crew could get remembered forever
