  1. I think if Melvin can get a good SP via trade, anyone who questions Manny being the one moved to the bullpen would not be looking at the facts. I don't know, I think it's debatable. If Manny can find his control, he will certainly be a quality SP. I don't think Melvin would look at a starting pitcher via trade unless Manny is really lost close to the AS break (read: still holding a 5+ ERA). Manny's WHIP was high last season too, and he still managed OK ERA numbers. Moving him to the bullpen would certainly stunt his development. Those calling Parra the "mental midget" are probably the same that threw Weeks under the bus the last three seasons. I just don't think we need to sell him off in hopes of playoffs in 2009. It's still May.
  2. I'll be there Saturday and Sunday hosting a group of about 20 or so as we've done the last few years. Half Brewer fans, half Twins fans. Saturday night 8 of us will be down the third base line in left field and the rest in the cheap seats. I've been to probably 20 ball games in the Dome, it's the only other stadium I've been to besides MP. I guess I'll miss it a little, just because I've been there so often, but I look forward to the new stadium next season.
  3. So, the thread title indicates that Iribarren is coming up, but nothing has been confirmed in this thread yet. Has this been confirmed yet? Link Look under his post in the 1st inning.
  4. Rickie's always been one of my favorites. My fear has been though that the way he swings the bat will always give him wrist issues. Hope I'm wrong and he comes back strong again next season.
  5. So, I got some troubling news the other day. My fiancee just found out that someone has been using her name and SSN and has basically demolished her credit for the last 2 years (no wonder we couldn't refinance the truck). We have researched a bit on our own, we know the basics and will probably have to get a lawyer (if it's affordable). I know that this is going to be extremely difficult to beat. I thought I'd pick BF.net's brain for the extra sage advice you are usually good for. Please help! We are getting married in 2010 and I don't want this to follow us forever!
  6. The question is what happens if Coghlen swallows his pride, goes to Ramirez and asks for a bat and Hanley refuses? Then the guy is out his first HR ball in the majors just because some guy wants to cash in on memorbilia. But somehow that's all fair game? Seems to widen the schism between fan and player.
  7. Fantastic Rickie, now just to get that pesky double out of the way and maybe we'll see some Brewers highlights on the four letter network tonight!
  8. I'd say McGehee goes down, he hasn't gotten much PT -- unless X Ellence was right and Gamel is now a backup OFer as well as 3B.
  9. Not necessarily, because at 3B his defense subtracts from his offense, at another position, it will be easier for him to be above average, and even if he isn't its a smaller impact on the total defense. In LF, he'd just have to be better than Lee, Duncan, and Soriano to be in the top half of the division defensively. Right, but if he can be an average fielder at 3B, his bat will most certainly make him an above average player there. I'm pretty much banking on Gamel in AAA until September except in the case of injury. Maybe I'm wrong in thinking that. Who is the 3rd outfielder next year? I don't know, I'm assuming you're advocating moving Hart to CF then? I'm not a believer in Hart playing CF, meaning I also believe we can't play all three (Braun/Hart/Gamel) in the OF next season. Our OF defense would be pretty ugly IMO. Either way it appears Gamel is blocked for this season and next, unless Hall resumes a super-sub role or moves back to CF in 2010 or Corey Hart or Bill Hall get traded. I don't know if Hall playing CF is much better an option than a Braun/Hart/Gamel OF. Trade Hall for a CF-capable OF with one year left on his contract? I doubt you'd get that great of a player. It'd be great if Cain was ready for 2010. In short, Doug should have some interesting decisions this next offseason.
  10. But the Mets also had a hole in the corner OF. The Brewers likely have Hart and Braun out there for another 2-3 years at least. If Gamel can stick at 3B, he's much more valuable. It behooves us to give him time to develop defensively. If we lost one of Hart and Braun for the year, I think signing Edmonds for $2-3 mil would be smart.
  11. Gamel hasn't played any OF though. I doubt he'd be called up to start in the OF at the MLB level. I'd like to see us sign Jim Edmonds if Hart or Braun go to the DL. I never liked the Gabe Gross trade; we sure could use him this year.
  12. agreed Backup. I've been to exactly one bowling alley that had a left handed bowling ball. Now, I've had my own ball for a few years but it was nearly impossible to bowl with an alley ball back then.
  13. Exactly. Makes perfect sense and I have agreed with that like 10 times already. Our only disagreement is you prefer to rent a player where I prefer a player who will pitch more than 15 starts.I suppose it's possible we could've traded away two more top prospects with LaPorta and Brantley (Gamel & Green?) to get a more long-term pitcher. But then that would've actually put a dent in our farm system and probably would close our window of competitiveness sooner.
  14. 15-13. Yes we're hot right now, but we know how baseball goes. Soup has been good his past two starts, Bush has been good, Looper has been good, Gallardo has been insane. Hopefully Manny can pick up a couple wins in May to help out any regression.
  15. There was absolutely nothing awful about that AB by Braun. That was more or less a perfect pitch to get him out. Nope, sorry, Kevin Bacon wasn't in Footloose, you lose. Seriously though, he's had two 0'fer games and suddenly he's awful? sometimes you get matched up against two consecutive pitchers you don't see well.
  16. Cameron, Hart and Braun are all hitting well right now, probably the reason Duffy hasn't seen much PT. Can't send Nelson down without risking losing him. Give Nelson more time, I'm sure he'll come around and give us some production going forward.
  17. Definitely miller products, but mostly, whiskey + coke/7up = happy lukevan.
  18. Come-on-a-yay-haaahh!! WTG Trevor!! Great win, what a comeback! Back to .500!
  19. Thanks DHonks, I've figured what you've said here had to be true. I've had this set of irons for about 6-7 years so I guess familiarity has something to do with it. That and I've played so much golf in my life since the age of 4. But the grooves are basically shot and the face on my 4-iron is starting to cave in. I've wanted to take my game to the next level (namely becoming a scratch golfer) but have never been able to get over the hump. I'm hoping to get a nice set of quality clubs to see how far I can take my game. If any of you are ever interested in golf in the Red Wing, MN area, PM me if you'd like a friendly outing.
  20. I'm 27 and I've never owned a real "brand name" golf club. My driver is a stiff flex, built for high clubhead speed 400cc and I couldn't even tell you the brand. My irons are not from any of the top 6-7 golf club manufacturers. That said, I've shot probably 8-10 under par 18s in my life and usually hover around 6-8 hdcp for 18 holes. So I guess what I'm trying to figure out is, will I see a large improvement in the quality of my shots due to buying a brand name club? I hit pretty long and pure most of the time but I do spray my driver a bit. I worry about the shape of my iron clubheads affecting what is already a solid game in the department.
  21. Can you delve into this a little further? I've heard lots of great reviews about the Burner and I'm looking at possibly picking up a new driver this season. Like RU, I'm looking for something affordable that's probably a model from a year or two ago.
  22. The Angels are 4-8, Tampa is 5-8, Philly is 5-6... just can't get too worked up over a bad start with some close losses. If you can't get excited about this team, maybe you're just not that big of a baseball fan. This is probably the second best team we've had since the mid nineties.
  23. Brewcrewball has Suppan's pitch f/x numbers up and they say he has not dropped velocity from last year.
