His career OPS on the first pitch is .899 vs .737 overall so it seems to work for him. I find it annoying too but It does seem to work.

Yeah, pretty sure my heart stopped beating the moment i saw how short the fly ball was, and didn't start again until Hardy jumped up and pumped his fist. I like tough catchers that throw their body around, but when it's the home run leading shortstop it freaks me out a little
