Randy Wolf- Latest: Multiple sources say done deal with Brewers

When someone who would know was asked if it were possible that the Brewers gave Wolf a three-year, $27 million deal as rumored by a couple of posters, he replied, "Sure, if you believe in Santa Claus."
I don't get it. Are they saying Santa Claus isn't real? UVerse has a channel that's dedicated to tracking Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. Why would they lie? Why, Santa? Why? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

TH is essentially mocking people for speculating on a signing...

It seems as if someone else is doing the mocking, TH is passing it on.

No one here said it was rumored, people just are guessing. Get a clue, TH.

It's best to get facts straight, before telling someone to get a clue. From the linked blog

I see some posters on the earlier blogs tonight say they have inside information that the Brewers have a three-year deal with free-agent lefty Randy Wolf, who on Tuesday night was not offered arbitration by the Dodgers as a Class A type.

Someone in TH's blog said it was a done deal, per the first page of this thread. TH is responding to that.

As for the comment that TH passes on, I wish it provided more information. Because other than the fact that there isn't a deal for 3/$27M, I didn't learn anything else. I don't know if the years are off, if the dollars are off, and if they are off, which way they are off.

There's been a history on the JSOnline blog of posters proclaiming that they have "inside information" that a signing or trade will occur, getting everyone worked up. Then it inevitably doesn't occur and the whole thing looks stupid; or Haudricourt gets asked about it repeatedly when there is nothing to it. Thus, I can understand why he would seems somewhat annoyed.

I am sure there are not repercussions to posting nonsense like that over at the JS blogs either.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

No, I think people basically never get banned there. It's more of a comments section anyway, not a real forum like here.

Anyway, since nothing has been announced yet, I would guess the rumor is pretty much disproven at this point. I don't doubt the Brewers are interested in Wolf, though. I just don't know if they would offer him close to $30 million so early in the hot stove season.

Wouldn't you be more aggravated if he didn't address it at all though?

Why in the world would anyone be gullible enough to believe someone's "sources" in the comment section of the jsonline blogs? Not to knock you or anything, but people make up things all the time.

The Brewers will sign Randy Wolf. Book it. The more interesting question is what else they'll be able to do to solidify their rotation.

Riebes, is that just your opinion? Or do you have insider information that suggests that Wolf is going to be signed by the Brewers?

Saying "book it" seems to suggest the later since I see no way anyone could be/act so certain about us getting a certain pitcher based on the large amount of FA pitchers on the market that we've been linked to. (Smoltz, Washburn, Davis, Wolf, Harden, Mulder....)

Hasn't Wolf taken a paycut to stay on the west coast? So, Isn't the odds way better that he signs with a west coast team?
Robin Yount - “But what I'd really like to tell you is I never dreamed of being in the Hall of Fame. Standing here with all these great players was beyond any of my dreams.”

Wolf took a paycut because the Astros offered him a 3 year deal and then backed out. After that, Wolf was a guy that looked like he had a contract year after pitching a total of about 260 IP the previous 3 years and so was considered somewhat of a risk. With the economy tanking, he wasn't high profile and was dumped into the bargain bin of pitchers.

That alone endears him to me. "Stick it to the 'stros Mr. Wolf." As opposed to the obligatory, "Dave Duncan pulled some strings and my ERA flourished. BTW-Do not look behind the curtain," which is the mantra of Jeff Suppan's contract (contracts have mantras like agents have mojos).

No, it doesn't. When people say "book it," it tends to just mean they are very confident in their opinion.

I wish the Brewers would make an exciting move for once. In the last 25 years we've had the CC trade and nothing else (signing Kevin Seitzer to a league minimum deal is probably #2). It's always picking up guys with no upside, minor league free agents, or guys 5 years past their prime. Wolf is more of the same. I guess that's what happens when a team has no free agent budget and hasn't developed much tradable talent but it's still annoying that fans of pretty much every other team can hope that their team will acquire somebody good (either through trade or free agency) and the best we have to hope for is that the team won't acquire somebody who cripples the franchise.

You really have to wonder why the Dodgers didn't offer Wolf arbitration. The odds on him accepting after that type of year must have been quite low. Perhaps they were concerned his arb-hearing could give him a 12-15 million dollar paycheck, based on that ERA?

I agree with the above sentiment that Wolf is one of the only pitchers on the market this year that would excite me. If he would agree to something like 2/16, or 2/18 + team option with reasonable buyout, I would think it would be pretty good for both sides. That said, the pitching market can be kind of crazy, so it would not at all surprise me to see him get something much larger. A rotation of Gallardo, Wolf, Parra, Bush, Suppan really doesn't sound too bad, all things considered.
