It would've been between Appel and Correa for me. That being said, it is still surprising.
This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

Why is Appel sliding?

Apparently Boras said if he didn't get #1 money, he wouldn't hesitate to go back to school. With the Astros wanting Correa and the Twins wanting Buxton, he fell past the top 2 and other teams might be scared because of the slot money.

I hope KC takes him so he does not fall to the Cubs.

Lesson of the night: Don't have Scott Boras going around saying you want top dollar in the new draft bonus system.

Yes, I don't expect we're going to enjoy playing the Pirates four years from now.

Did you see supposed stud pitcher Stetson Allie from last years draft is no longer pitiching?

Posted
I did. That is one big signing bonus that doesn't appear to have worked out for them. Nothing's guaranteed with any prospect, but Cole, Taillon and Appel are all much more likely to succeed than Allie was.

Pittsburgh has a pretty strong system even with Allie, Sanchez, and Alvarez not meeting expectations, I have a very difficult time dismissing them even with what's happened.

Backflips are apparently the new way to show your agility. Not bad for a a guy Hawkins' size. I don't know much about any of these players at this point, but I do enjoy watching the draft to learn.

@Haudricourt: Zack Greinke in #Brewers draft room. They told him he had to sign in and before he knew it he had agreed to a five-year extension.

Glad they still let him come watch even if he likely won't be around for long.

We should be playing the John Hart drinking game. A shot everytiime he says "again" or "listen". Hes added "look" tonight.

Yeah, the Pirates have been building the proper way (imo) for a few seasons now. Basically since Huntington took the reins at GM.

Does anybody think the Pirates will have a hard time signing Appel and he will just go back to Stanford for another year? I know that's rare (and probably ill-advised) but it has happened before and given the new soft-slotting seems more likely than in the past.

Given the way the pirates have spent recently, they likely aren't afraid to pay some tax money for going over slot. They won't go high enough to give up draft picks
