If Martin is confident that he'll be retained on the 25-man roster, yes, I'd agree with you. I can't pretend to know what the front office is thinking lately.

Considering how bad Wolf has been; I am having a hard time convincing myself that DM would send down the better catcher in favor of the personal catcher for a terrible pitcher who is gone after this year. I will be extremely disappointed if Kottaras isn't the one that is demoted or traded. Plus Maldonado is the RH bench bat we need late in games (Obviously I would like a non catcher RH bat as well)

I suppose it doesn't matter a lot. If he had made his mind up to go for the double play/runner at second the only thing that could happen is a mistake trying to make something else happen I'd guess.

No matter what happens today, Fiers has earned a spot in the rotation. So has Estrada. Greinke, Gallardo and Marcum are givens. Guess that leaves out Hangdog Wolf.

I'm willing to bet it's either Fiers or Estrada that's left out. I wouldn't mind seeing Estrada as the long man in the pen with Fiers and Wolf in the rotation, but so long as Fiers doesn't lose his spot to Wolf I'm not going to be too annoyed.

 

Fiers' numbers this year so far are downright nasty: 2.13 ERA, 2.08 FIP, 3.01 xFIP, 5.13 K/BB. I don't really know what to think of Fiers going forward. I don't think it is an exaggeration to say he has been dominant thus far. But there's no way he can continue to perform at this level. Zips is very bullish on Fiers, projecting a 3.60 ERA going forward. At the very least, I think I'm comfortable saying Fiers should be in the rotation for this season and next, assuming the wheels don't completely fall off.

Well his numbers so far match up pretty nicely with his MiLB career so far. So it's not like he's some 5.00 ERA journeyman minor-leaguer having success out of nowhere.
