I have never heard of any of those bands...

Have I stumbled into some kind of hipster music thread, or is this thread for any style of music?

So far I have only liked a few new music this year not the same style or taste that you guys have so far.

1. Deftones: Koi No Yokan

2. Halestorm: The Strange Case Of...

3. Linkin Park: Living Things

4. Slash: Apocalyptic Love

5. P.O.D.: Murdered Love

6. Avatar: Black Waltz

I've only spun the new Deftones record a few times, but its growing on me.

1. One Direction: Up All Night

2. One Direction: Take Me Home

This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

1. Ugly Kid Joe - Stairway to Hell : Excellent hard rock release from a band I thought was dead and gone!

2. Lita Ford - Living Like a Runaway : From the moment I put this one in the cd player, this cd just stuck with me. I played it well over 100 times, just couldn't get enough.

3. Rush - Clockwork Angels : Another quality release from one of the best bands of all time!

4. Kiss - MONSTER! : I love everything these guys do. If you like hard ass kicking rock and roll, this cd is great!

5. Jackyl - Best in Show : Straight ahead rock and roll, infectious hooks...

6. Geoff Tate - Kings & Thieves : Nothing but quality here. Any fan of Queensryche will be happy after hearing this gem!

7. Van Halen - A Different Kind of Truth : Took me a while to catch onto this cd. After about 6 or 7 plays, it took. Great disc!

Honestly, I'm surprised people still buy cds. Then again, I still buy dvds.

I made the switch to vinyl. Most LPs come with a digital download of the album.

Wow, I've only purchased 4 albums that came out this year.

1. Godspeed You! Black Emperor - 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend! Hard to believe it was a 10 year gap between releases. No demerits taken for excessive punctuation.

2. Air - Le Voyage Dans La Lune Not too crazy about it, but listened to it a bit more than the two that follow. The project itself is probably more memorable than the music.

3. Mars Volta - Noctourniquet Every couple of years they churn out something more than the sum of the parts, but this, like Bedlam in Goliath sounds more like just that. Might be their last for a while though. Now that Ryan Adams has relatively settled down, the one group I follow for which self-editing could help the most.

4 Sigur Rós - Valtari I'll admit to not having heard this yet, or at least not remembering doing so. Picked this up used a few weeks ago, give me a break...

I apologize, I have more money than I ever have each and every year, and each and every year I buy less and less. So it goes with procreation. I suppose I'm only further cementing my status into new musical irrelevancy by using a fraction of said money towards purchasing tickets to a Yo La Tengo show.

I'm surprised people still buy cds.

I am still one of those, but immediately digitize upon purchase. I do like the artwork and the familiarity of the medium, although both are appreciated approximately once per ownership.

Old habits die hard. I bought albums right up until they became hard to find, and intend on buying cds as long as I can. Of course, now, vinyl has become cool again, so it isn't that difficult to find now-a-days. I'm talking about the 80's when cds first came out, and squeezed the production of albums until they were no longer being sold.

The thought of purchasing music in digital format makes me uncomfortable. I like to own an actual copy of the music. I can then put it wherever I want, and in any format I want with the knowledge that I still own a copy of the actual cd if something goes wrong.

That and I like the artwork, lyrics, etc...

Turborickey, reading your posts in this topic, I would've thought they were mine.

I like the same music as you and agree about owning an actual copy. Unfortunately, I did not purchase much this year, but my favorite album was Albatross by Big Wreck. A little off of my preferred 80s/90s hard rock/metal scene, but they are long-time favorite of mine.

BB,

Check out that Ugly Kid Joe I mentioned above. It is tremendous and an EP, so there are only 6 songs. I just can't quit playing it!

Check it out on spotify if you use that first. That is how I found it, and after 2 or 3 plays, I went straight to amazon and ordered my copy.

spotify is such a great tool. it allows people to actually preview cd's before they purchase them. while some may feel that it hurts record sales, it actually has caused me to purchase way more songs and cd's than in past years.

Was El Camino this year? I really don't listen to current music but I loves me some Black Keys.

Came out December 2011. That was my favorite from last year though. Easily.

Ha, I think I put it on my top 10 post last year even though it wasn't out yet.

absolutely!

It has worked both ways for me.

There has been a lot of music I ran out and purchased after listening on spotify, and there has been music I listened to that I didn't like, therefore saving me the disappointment of buying it.

I LOVE spotify!
