What's bugging you? (2011)

My wife was applying for a new job the other day. The job posting said the application was due Wednesday, August 23. The 23rd was a Tuesday.
Nice. They can't even get away with claiming they meant Wednesday, August 23, 2012 since next year is a leap year and August 23 will be on a Thursday.

I am trying to figure out how I used 200 more Kilowatts of Electricty this past month than I have ever used since I bought my house. I only rarely have used the AC in the last 2 weeks; how the heck could I have used so much electricity?

When was that super hot stretch? My bill goes back to July 20th. Even if the hot stretch was during this current bill; the huge increase in usage still doesn't make much sense to me given the lack of AC use in the last 2 weeks.

If it is this high again next month I suppose I will have to call Alliant Energy to complain about a faulty meter. I am sure that conversation will go well.

In Madison the crazy hot and humid stretch began July 17 and ran through most if not all of the following work week.

Do you have a dehumidifier too? That wouldn't be quite the electricity hog that AC is, but if the dewpoint in Fondy was anything like the dewpoint in Madison, dehumidifiers would have been running nonstop.

My 2 bedroom apartment's energy bill was more than I'd ever paid for my four bedroom house. It was just super hot, needing the AC's to work really hard all day and night.

FWIW, our energy bill went up by a third over roughly the same stretch. Kinda like a few winters ago, when we had a stretch of below zero for over a week and the gas bill went way up accordingly..

I guess I freaked out over nothing then. My dehumidifer has run almost non stop for the last 2 months. For some reason I thought that hot stretch was earlier in July. I know it was hot but last summer I never came close to that figure.

Whats bugging me today is that I have training for my job from October 9-11. This training goes into the night so I may be forced to miss the Brewers in the NLCS if they make it that far. And I don't have a DVR.

Dear MLB Network,

Why do you give me Boston at Texas instead of Pittsburgh at the Classies?

Could be that your last bill was estimated usage and this month's bill was actual and had to make up for the previous month. Happens to sometimes when we get a hot month or really cold month.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

There's one STL fan among my Facebook friends. He's a nice guy, as long as the topic of Brewers vs. Cardinals doesn't come up. When it does, he gets into "red kool-aid" mode and does his best to suck the joy out of my happy Brewers posts. A month ago, after the antics in Milwaukee earned STL a plethora of media disapproval, he was still responding that TLR has championships.

I suppose he could just as easily be posting on some STL board right now about how he's got this one friend who's a Brewer fan, and who would be perfectly normal if she didn't buy into all these classless stunts they keep pulling. But it bugs me that we're like-minded in so many other ways, yet absolutely not when it comes to baseball.

I'd like to think he'd realize some day that if I'm okay with the "Brewers way," then maybe it's not so horrible. I'm not expecting this, however.

My son is immuno-suppressed. He has, what is most likely, a 24-hour flu bug. It has been 4 days already, and will probably be a few more. It is bugging me that he has to be this miserable. No way to explain to a 4 year old why this is happening.

We have a flat screen Samsung TV that we purchased 4 or 5 years ago. I forget the size (41 or 42 inches..something like that?). Over the past several months the TV has taken longer and longer to turn on. It makes a clicking sound. Starts out as quick clicks, then the clicks get farther apart, then finally the TV turns on. I have not timed it, but I think we are now up to about 2 or 3 minutes before the TV actually turns on. If the TV was just recently one (within the last 2 or 3 hours), it turns on a bit more quickly. It's like it has to "warm up" or something. Very annoying. I'm not sure if it's worth getting fixed. I really hate to buy a new TV. This TV works fine, but not sure how much longer I can take this issue and I'm wondering if someday it will decide not to turn on at all.

Thanks a lot for that link bball! I'm not sure what our model number is, but I'm going to check that out when I get home. I also found another forum where people were having similar problems with their Samsung TV. Some of the posters stated that they called Samsung and that they sent out a technician to fix it for free even though the warranty had expired. So, I'm going to try that route first and if that does not work, I may try to fix it myself.

He's been up for over a week, still no Green #5 jersey-t's at the Brewers store.

Annoying, to say the least.

The "kind staff" there proceeded to try to upsell me to a $240 custom jersey.

My daughter's day care called me today to tell me that she was running a fever and had to be picked up. They called my classroom number, which goes to the secretaries instead of to my classroom (they then transfer the call). The call was not transferred (took a message), and it took a half hour before I found out they called. Not happy about that.

I got a glimpse of someone on tv in the crowd at the Badgers game. In the sea of red, someone was wearing the iconic "F*** 'em Bucky" shirt.

I'm old, so I have different sensibilities than when I was in college. While I have never liked that shirt, I used to react with a shrug.

But now that I'm a dad, I'm really bugged by the shirt, and the foolishness of the person wearing it.

If you're wearing that shirt in public, you're an unimaginative, unfunny clod.

Same goes for the Bucky Did Your Mom shirts. Seriously, there's a zillion styles of Badger T-shirt and you pick that one?

The single seat ticket holder who now sits next to our seats on a fairly regular basis (no it's not "front row Amy"!).

I know this sounds rude. She seems to be a nice enough person, but she is constantly honing in and feeling like she needs to comment on all of our family conversations. If you were observing our "group" as an outsider, you would assume that she came to the game with us. She can also be somewhat annoying in her "cheering" antics and the last game we attended she wore some perfume that was, to put it mildly, not pleasant and a bit on the strong side (I guess that's much better than BO).

i went to a bar for a little while last night because i had nothing better to do. (i live in TX, btw). the Cowboys/Jets game was on. this isn't a particularly large bar, and an uber-fan woman at the entrance was clapping and loudly screeching at every single play. ball is being handed off? screech. no gain on the play? screech. negative gain? clap loudly for the effort, apparently.

is that better or worse than the whole bar letting out a bunch of loud "YEEEE-HAAAAAAAA!"s?

I had a female friend who was like that with the Badgers, back when I lived in Madison. It got so bad that when we had get togethers for Badgers games, people would ask if she was going to be there, and wouldn't show up if she was.

I have the opposite problem. The guy who has season tickets next to me at Camp Randall groans and moans on every Badger offensive play that isn't a touchdown or a huge gain and if they give up a yard on defense the same thing. He seriously yells and complains about blocking on 6 yard first down runs. He's done it every game for 5 years, it is now comical to whomever I bring with me to the games as his exaggerated expectations for every single play become the inside joke between us. The other team can throw a bubble screen to the wideout, the WI DB can knife in between blockers and tackle the guy for a 1 yard gain or no gain and this fan will complain the DB should have intercepted it.

My wife can't believe he even enjoys the game the way he complains about every play. I can't imagine him watching a baseball and what his expectations of every pitch would be, a double off the wall would probably leave him apoplectic because Braun didn't hit it out or something.

I have this irrational hatred of Bluetooth earpieces and the nimrods who wear them. It's like they are saying "I'm just SO important that I have to be contactable at all times, instantly". And judging by the sweat pants and stained T-shirt, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say "errr, no, really you aren't that important".

Just found out that I don't have a place to hunt for the Wisconsin Gun-deer season. Looked into leasing land...holy freaking expensive. May be the first season that I have missed in the last 22 years. BOO!
