What's bugging you? (2010)

Rental Car Prices. I booked an end of Feb Orlando vacation about 2 months ago. Like an idiot I did not book a rental car at the time. Now Rental Car prices have sky rocketed. The cheapest car I can find is a Full Size SUV through Enterprise. That's actually cheaper than any compact or economy cars I could find (altough, I usually don't rent compact or economy cars).

We never book our rental cars with our trips until right before we leave. Last October in Orlando we were able to use Priceline name your price and got a full size car for $17 a day, it was also cheaper than any economy or compact at the time because a lot of people want to spend as little as possible on their rentals so the low end cars are actually in higher demand.
Everything I've ever known, I've learned from Brewerfan.net....Seriously though

I'll second Priceline for booking a rental car. We went to Phoenix a couple years ago, and the cheapest was $35/day. I got my car on Priceline for $20/day (may have even been $18).

Someone at work mentioned priceline to me as well. I may wait a while and then give that a try. Sounds like you set up an account and then go out there and make a bid. If someone takes your bid you are locked in. Here are my concerns.

- Seems like you only get to name the "daily" price you want. What if I'm picking the car up on Tues at noon and returning the next Tues at 3pm? Is that 7 days? Do they round up to 8 days? Do they prorate? When I book through a rental car company they never really give me a "daily" rate...so I'm not sure what to use as a starting point.

- If someone accepts your bid you don't get a chance to reject. I would really like to see the final price with all taxes and fees and any other "surprises" before I lock in. I don't want to find out that I have to pick up my car somewhere off-site, or that insurance is automatically tacked on, or that they adding on some other charge that wouldn't be on a normal car rental.

I always book my rental car as early as possible. Unlike most other travel reservations, canceling a car rental is free, letting you switch if you find a cheaper price later on. Also, don't rule out local car rental places. The big guys tend to be more expensive, even through bidding sites.

1. I don't know for sure, but I think they would round up to 8 days.

2. You enter the "daily rate" and then it takes you to another page and shows you the subtotal (the daily rate times the number of days) + "taxes and fees" and a "total charge". Then once you see the "total charge" you can decide if you want to place that bid or not. You don't get to pick from whom you are renting so you might be taking a shuttle from the airport to get your car. As far as insurance, it says right on their website:

Your offer price does not include vehicle liability, collision or

personal accident coverage for your rental car. You should determine if

you have insurance coverage prior to pick-up. Additional insurance can

be purchased at the rental counter.

Not being able to choose your rental company and possibly having to take a shuttle to get your car are the things you have to give up to get a better deal. Usually the shuttles are really close to the airport anyway though.

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

I like hotwire.com. Similar to Priceline, but you don't name the price. They show you the size of car, price, and location (in termnal, shuttle, etc.). The only thing you don't see is the rental company name. I feel like the chains are absolute commodities - there is no difference, so I don't care which one I rent from. I've saved quite a bit of money doing it this way.

The news that I94 W bound will be repaved this spring and the estimated travel times they have posted in the Journal/Sentinel this morning. E Bound will be done next spring. I coach youth baseball in Waukesha and work downtown. It's going to be very difficult for me to get to games in time for pre-game warmup (or on time for the 1st pitch for that matter!). http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif

- On the other hand my anger about this was offset by the news of the Greinke deal http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Why aren't there Brewers Greinke jerseys or tees yet? Do you remember how fast Sabathia items were thrown together? It seems like they are really missing the boat with Christmas days away.

edit: spelling

Because I'm an idiot, I went into the week thinking Christmas Eve was on Thursday (therefore 3 day work week). Well needless to say, I'm working today and the day is going rather sloooowww. If only the Greinke trade was LAST night....the board would be more active http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

We just bought a car, so I called my insurance agent to make sure they had it straight, etc. We have three teen drivers...they told us we cannot list more than one of them as a primary driver on the same vehicle. We have to list all three of them on separate vehicles.

OK...we have an old car here that two of them share...they use it to get to work, etc. They don't drive any of the other vehicles, except maybe 2-3 times a year...that's what the old car is here for.

Now, I'm told I HAVE TO list one of them on the car we just got...which is a lot more expensive, because it is newer, etc.

What a load...

The smoke detectors in my house have been chirping for the past few days. We have replaced all of the batteries, and they still chirp. The detectors are all hard-wired together with the battery backup. They don't constantly chirp. Detector #1 will chirp. A few seconds will pass and detector #2 will chirp, a few seconds go by and then detector #3 will chirp, etc, etc. After all 6 chirp, they will be quiet. About an hour will pass, and the detectors will repeat this cycle. They will be quiet for about 3 hours, and the cycle will repeat again. Short of calling an electrician, does anyone have any other ideas?

Maybe they need to be dusted? But this would drive me crazy and I would probably just disconnect them all.

I just Googled "hard wired smoke detector chirping" and was surprised by the number of results it returned. Based on my skim of those, I think I would start by making sure each detector is free of dust.
