Ron Roenicke relieved of managerial duties (Craig Counsell named new manager, 3 yr contract)

Haudricourt tweeted that he asked if the replacement was Counsell and DM said he can't comment until tomorrow. Also, Keith Law seems to be completely baffled by this move, which makes me think we did the right thing.

I don't think he's baffled. He makes a great point.

They picked up his 2016 option six weeks ago. He was the right guy then but now he's not?

Hey look we did something! Please keep buying tickets!

Counsell would probably be a good bridge between regimes assuming that Melvin will be out after the season. That said, is a guy with no formal managing or coaching experience at any pro level the guy that you would want to oversee a rebuilding club?

Chicken bleep move by Melvin. Fire yourself.

Thank you RR for 2011, two games from a World Series and 96 wins. You'll land on your feet and in a few seasons it'll be like Yost all over in a World Series.

I hope it's Yount. Just for the excitement.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I agree with the majority of this.

I hope it's not Yount. Just like I'm sad Molitor is a manager now, one of my favorite players of all time will inevitably suck at some point and get fired and then my most recent memory of him will be as a crappy manager rather than my childhood hero.

my gut tells me its Narron, i hope its Counsell or Gardenhire.

The Brewers aren't infallible, but they're savvy enough to not have a next-day presser just to announce Narron. That would be a really lame buildup.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

They are learning that the hard way on the south side of Chicago.

I am not nearly as concerned with who manages the team for the remainder of 2015 as I am that the front office begins an aggressive organizational rebuild. I want the Brewers to emulate what the Atlanta Braves have done over the past six months. Unfortunately, I am far from convinced that Doug Melvin is the right GM to successfully lead the organization down that path.

Kinda hope it's Counsell. That way the love fest for him can finally end.

More Haudricourt from talking to Roenicke...

Tom @Haudricourt · 9m 9 minutes ago

Ron Roenicke told Melvin: "I wish you would have fired me a week ago." Said the timing was "terrible."

Tom @Haudricourt · 6m 6 minutes ago

Roenicke on what went wrong with team: "It's hard to answer that. When we left spring training, we were ready to play."

Can understand the first one from both sides. His job was lost before this road trip, so it's rough to be on the highest note of the season so far and then get canned upon coming home. But if it took longer than that to secure the replacement, no point in naming an interim for a week. Though why the replacement took an extra week to secure is another back and forth on a hypothetical.

Second one might sum up the biggest problem of Roenicke's tenure over the past four seasons - he didn't have an answer for the season being doomed every year due to a month-plus period where we were the worst team in baseball.

Odd timing, was never a major Roenicke supporter nor a hater. Maybe I even leaned a little toward supporter. Feel bad he lost his job, did some nice things when he was here. Surprised he kept the job after last season, thought he would get a bit longer of a leash this year.

Just hope the guy announced tomorrow is not Gardenhire, hope it is Narron or Counsell on interim basis and they do a full search and interview process in the offseason. Unless of course it ends of being Gabe Kapler, than I hope he is the permanent guy.

Matzek says a multi year deal in place for next manager. Gardenhire? Counsell? Royster?

Whoever is the new manager, it's all his fault.

I'm with you. I'm going to get out ahead of the usual malcontents on this one. I don't care who they hire; I'm calling for his firing right now!

Kapler would be an interesting guy. Risky due to his lack of experience. But he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would accept slackers.

Ha! Someone has already made a creative edit.
