Getting Lucroy back here

Posted
If it "only" takes a middle prospect or two to get him, get him. Why wait around? We know how good he has been and could be again.

Because Lucroy is about to enter free agency and we want nothing to do with that. We don't have the luxury of rentals even if we are showing some success. Stay the course.

Stay what course? Aren't we about picking up leftover garbage on the cheap, polishing it up, and getting some bang for our buck? Now, that course fits this transaction.

Do you think the Rangers are going to trade Lucroy back to us for pennies on the dollar? Not happening. The Rangers want bullpen help for Lucroy, and names like Carlos Torres and Oliver Drake certainly aren't going to do it for them.

We have enough bullpen issues of our own without trading one of our few useful pen arms for a 3 month rental of a catcher that we don't have a pressing need for.

I like Lucroy as much as anyone....but why? Pina is providing Lucroy slash's and Vogt can handle the other side of the plate. No thank you, we NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDD bullpen help.
Posted

Yeah, I don't get this.

1- Pina has been very solid and Vogt looks like a capable complement to him. It's not like we're starting Chad Moeller.

2 - We don't need to be in the business of rentals, unless they cost peanuts, and..

3 - Lucroy isn't going to cost peanuts. He's not having a great year but he has a very established track record, and it's not like he's been a disaster this year. The Rangers have no motivation to just dump him for nothing. It's not like he's a salary dump candidate. They want bullpen help. They'll get it, or they'll hold onto him. We need that bullpen help more than we need another catcher. They would want someone like Barnes for Lucroy, and we're not doing that nor should we.

4 - Even if the Rangers were going to trade Lucroy for peanuts, do you think it would be back to us? Give up a haul of prospects for a catcher and then trade him back to the same team for a bag of balls less than a year later? Talk about a terrible PR move.

Lucroy will probably end up getting dealt, but it won't be back to Milwaukee. We're just not a fit right now on any level.

Vogt can't throw a runner out and Pina has not been great of late. Agreed pitching is the need, but let's not think we are set at catcher.

Good point that we probably won't get him from Texas, though.

No, just sign him in FA. If he's traded there can't be a QO tag on him. Texas is suggesting they won't QO him, but they QO'd Gallardo so I'd not say never. Let's see Lucroy bat .300 from here on out and they still think that way.

Last 15 games Pina is hitting .272 with 4 HR, 8 RBI and a .322 OBP. That isn't world beating... but if a .272 Pina with power is a not great or slumping version of Pina ... I think we are fine.

Only connection to the Brewers I want Lucroy to have is watching us on his TV come October while he counts all the millions a greedy 31 year old free agent catcher lost waiting it out.

Would be a story for the history books.

What? How in the world can anyone describe Lucroy as 'greedy'??

I more so think it's funny that he wanted to win so bad but yet blocked a trade to a team that was outs away from winning it all.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

He was offered an extension to stay here for fair compensation. He didn't sign because he didn't see a contending team. He decided to bet on himself and lost... big league.

You know, when that poster in the random MLB news thread on the major league forum said quick somebody make a thread in the trade forum about getting Lucroy back, it was meant in jest.

I wouldn't say he was greedy but the fact that he blocked the trade to Cleveland because he was going to split time at C this year (while still being an everyday player at C, 1B and DH) and thought that would somehow lose him money in free agency was stupid. Everyone knows you're a #1 catcher (although stats say otherwise this year), saving a half season of wear and tear on your 30+ year old body while still hitting everyday would have been great for him.

I think you guys are getting the story mixed up. It was Lucroy who approached US about an extension in 2015. The Brewers turned HIM down.

UGH facts are the worst, aren't they? I like Lucroy but he's a FA next year and will be 32. We have Pina, Vogt, Susac, Bandy between MLB/AAA and control them for 2-4yrs still. I don't see where the issue is for us at this position. Nottingham's work and effort is paying off big time and he could be in AAA next year too. I've always been a Susac guy and after the injury then migraine issues he seems to be getting back on track (hitting 364 last 11 games through tonight so far with 9bb, 8k, 5 doubles, 3HR). Don't count him out moving forward.

Agree- reported as Lucroy broaching the topic..... Lucroy probably wanted Molina money or a shade lower.

Zero Need for Lucroy. I often wondered when Lucroy was playing great, why the Brewers never extend his contract when Luc was complaining to the media about wanting an extension. In my opinion, we got rid of Lucroy and Carlos Gomez and the perfect time and we reap the rewards with the players we acquired.

Lucroy's dour grumpy me first personality wouldn't fit in the current Brewers clubhouse anyways. Unless of course he has a super awesome personality that the public never sees behind closed doors.
