Deleted mine. Good signing for Twins. Glad we can cross him off not being a Brewer.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Cobb will probably sign soon. Gonna be interesting few days for Boras, Holland, & Jake.

Not a fan of signing Lynn to a big money, multi-year deal, but this is a nice deal for the Twins. This should potentially get a market set for Cobb as well.

What a crazy offseason, though. Did any of us think there'd be a chance Lynn would sign a deal totalling 12 million?

I wonder if these guys will turn down 2-year deals to “bet on themselves” and hope the market warms up next year.

Crazy right? I think a lot of Brewers fans will question the front office if we don’t come away with Cobb or Arrieta since we now see what $12M and only one year of commitment got.

Best thing for Arrieta to do would be to take a 2-year so he becomes a free agent the year after all those crazy contracts get signed.

This has to be part of it. Why wouldn't the Twins want him at 2 years/$24M? That's still pretty cheap and if they think he'll have a good 2018 it's not hard to imagine him at least being worth that money in 2019 too.

The laws of supply and demand are going to be tested next offseason though. There are going to be a LOT of good players on the market next year, and I just don't see these player issues with free agency going away either. The main change is going to be that they're all 1 year older.

Hoping there will be an elaborate article written at some point detailing this offseason and asking guys like Lynn and Moustakas how it all went down. Did they really have zero interest all offseason, or is there more to this story?

If Lynn’s this cheap the Brewers better end up with one of the other 2. Otherwise it was a waste not offering Lynn just a bit more than 12 million

Even if that does happen you can bet there will be zero truth in it. The players association, players, and agents will continue to push collusion or whatever makes the owners look bad.

I respect front offices for all of this. It's better for the fans when you continue to give young guys in their prime those chances, instead of over-paying veterans before their inevitable decline. The NFL has it right and that's part of the reason it's so popular compared to baseball and basketball. I shed no tears for the players; they make enough.

Now do I prefer the money saved to go to the owners? Of course not, at least not if that's the only factor in the dilemma. But I do care a great deal about the quality of the entertainment product, and that quality depends a lot on teams not getting stuck with terrible contracts all the time.

And I don't think it's collusion. I'd have to think the players union would run the risk of a frivolous lawsuit given the overwhelming evidence that the kind of contracts they were looking for have been terrible for teams and for baseball. Teams don't need to collude, or even communicate at all, directly or indirectly, to all come to the same conclusion and produce an offseason like this one.

You'd think that with all these guys signing 1 year deals, the already loaded 2018-19 FA class will be bordering on insanity.

One factor is that the difference between Lynn and who would otherwise be the Twins’ #5 starter (especially before Santana returns) is much greater than the difference between Lynn and the Brewers’ #5 starter candidates. The Twins needed him more. He’s guaranteed 30+ starts no matter how he performs. That wasn’t the case with the Brewers.

That's why I consider the O's the favorite for Cobb.

You’d think he could get 2-3 years at that number. Maybe he’s betting on himself in hopes of getting more next offseason.

He is probably hoping the GM's start paying stupid money again. Next year might be a good time to be a FA because the expected really high contracts fro superstars might push the market higher for mid level FA's. However even if he pitches well next year, there is no guarantee that this new generation of GM's will be any more likely to open the checkbooks next year than they have been this year.

Next year could be a cascade effect. Once some owners start seeing their competition spending money on those superstars, they might feel they need to spend themselves to stay competitive.

Dodged a bullet on that thankfully Lynn did not sign with the Brewers would have been a disaster. Now if only Cobb would sign with someone so the Brewers can't make the mistake of signing him also that would be great.

Hard to ever be calling a 1-2 year bargain deal a 'disaster' even if you're not that high on Lynn or Cobb. Unless you're just really high on some combination of Woodruff, Miley, Guerra and Suter.
