I say start emptying the bullpen now while we have a three run lead and enjoy the day off tomrrow. Because does anyone really believe Woodruff will keep the D-Backs at bay?

No, but since we insist on going "day to day" with every injury we have and play constantly with 23 and 24 man rosters, going to the pen in the 2nd is not something we can really afford even with a day off tomorrow.

I have been all aboard the "Give Woodruff a shot and leave him alone" train, but he's infuriating me today. If walking a horrible hitting Avila leads to a run, I'll pack his bags to Colorado Springs.

Right there with ya. I want the Brewers to be patient but if it is an option between Woodruff and Peralta to go down, right now it should be Woodruff.

Peralta shouldn't go anywhere for now, agreed. To me its between Woodruff and Guerra.

Young pitchers are going to have growing pains, remember how bad Jimmy used to be? Give him time. (the walks are very, very irritating though, no arguments there).

For Woodruff, it's all about command - he's struggling to locate his FB early in counts, either missing badly outside the zone or missing a corner and serving it to good hitters on a tee. The more significant command issue is with his slider - he is struggling to get it anywhere near the zone without absolutely hanging it, so hitters don't even need to worry about it and sit on his FB all day long.

The stuff is there - he's got to command it better.

If it is that, it should be an even bigger no brainer. Guerra has thrown the ball well for the crew and with his options thing, if he's not sent down, he will retain an option for next season (I believe).

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

What is it about Jared Dyson that causes Woodruff to pitch him like he's Bryce Harper?

Right? Just groove fastballs to that guy. Worst case scenario, he hits a triple. He might end up at 3rd from a walk anyways...

If you can't hit the corners when pitching to Jared Dyson, you're not going to be able to hit the corners when you pitch to Harper, so you gotta do it against everyone?

I'm gonna confidently predict that's the last time we see Nick Franklin in a Brewers uniform.

He never should have been in a Brewers uniform this season under any circumstances, but i'm hoping you're right. Get him healthy and DFA.

I was very critical of the call going to Saladino over Orf, it's hard not to warm to this guy a bit though.

He is actually proving how silly it was to sign Sogard. There is always some scrap heap scrub every year who outperforms expectations for a few weeks and you don't spend a few million on a guy who just happened to be that guy last year.

Exactly. Waste of $2.5 million.

Walks Avila again.......

Are our catchers unable to adjust to a pitcher? Seems like they keep trying to get Woodruff to paint the corner. With his accuracy, just set up down the middle of the plate and he'll end up hitting a corner...

In regards to Saladino this year and Sogard last year Maybe we've just found whatever stash St. Louis used to use every year to turn AAAA middle IFers into near All-stars for a season or two.

Shaw just hitting rockets......wow

Our offense is being carried early on by Shaw, Cain, Yelich, Aguilar. It's going to be interesting to see how playing time shakes out when Thames comes back, don't forget he was hitting extremely well before his injury as well.

I honestly don't expect much from Saladino but he really couldn't do worse than Sogard was doing. It's nice he's swinging a hot (warm?) bat so far. Honestly, just get a hit every now and again, maybe draw a walk semi-regularly, and you're an instant upgrade over Sogard. The HRs are a nice bonus.
