Definitely NOT a must sweep. If they lose, they are 4 back with most of September left to play- including 3 more against the Cubs. Sweep puts them 2 games back, obviously that would be big but not a must.

We've consistently been about four or five games back of the Cubs for a month and a half now. I don't know why you would think we could make that up in three and a half weeks all of the sudden.

 

You're saying they can as well aren't you? What's the difference if they sweep this series, or catch them some other way? Who knows, maybe they sweep them at Wrigley.

I still find it annoying, but I did some sorting on fangraphs of brewers stats over the last 30 days. See link below. Those are pretty good batted ball numbers. Also notice Kratz's numbers...I find that even more surprising than Perez.

Don't the brewers have an offday tomorrow? Can't yelich rest then? He's gotta be the lh bench bat used in a tight spot when the cub rh relievers get into the games.

 

I don't like this lineup, simply because cc should throw caution to the wind and start your best player in this game. They've got 4 off days between now and seasons end - no reason to rest guys if they are healthy and hitting well anymore.

This is my thought to. I'm entirely willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for not playing Yelich. I'm more concerned with him playing what must be the 5th or 6th best RF option...and then batting him 2nd.

Don’t know what specifically is barking or if it’s just the usual aches and pains, but Christian Yelich needed today, Craig Counsell said. They talked about making it Friday (LH Holland pitching for SF), but Counsell said it had to be today.

IDK if I'd go that far. Perez has an 834 ops this year and 805 last year vs Lefties. Broxton is a poor hitter overall. Santana is who knows due to all the days off for him

It's definitely ok to be greedy today, a sweep makes an enormous difference. If you lose and take 2 out of 3, sure, you can feel good about that and you're still the top Wild Card, but the fact will be you haven't really impacted the division race much.

 

Win, and you're 2 back and all of the sudden you really start to put pressure on the Cubs.

 

Yes they have 3 more games against the Cubs but asking for another series like this only to finish the sweep is a huge ask, especially at Wrigley. You're already in position to do that today.

 

Put it this way, win today and you can afford to 'only' win the series in Wrigley without sweeping.

Right, if you're not playing the 3 main OF then I'd say Perez is the next best option. They also frequently use him as a D sub in RF so they must think highly of his D there.

I've looked at it quite a bit. Broxton is a much better defender in RF while being a slightly worse hitter vs lefties. Santana is definitely a better hitter than Perez and a bit worse defensively. I'd play Broxton and go all defense. I also wonder if Saladino can play out there, I'd much rather have him than Perez.

I'm just not sure how you can claim Santana is a clear better hitter these days after being so bad to start the year and down in AAA, and now basically not playing in several days. And Broxton is a clearly worse hitter than Perez, not slightly. Broxton has run into a few homers this year at lucky times and I love his energy but overall he's been awful on O, just like why he got sent down last year. Saladino, I mean cmon now. Perez has been hitting generally well for a while now, especially vs lefties.
