FS1 Post-Game Talking Heads

TURBO

The guys on the FS1 post-game are so obviously hating the Brewers success it is just ridiculous.

A-Rod is a dunce.

I can't understand much of what Ortiz is saying, so I'm not sure where he stands.

Thomas seems maybe like he is a little more neutral.

The other guy, who I don't know, is right along with A-Dunce.

You can just tell that they are pulling for the Dodgers and the big market machine..

Hopefully we can continue to cause them stress and shove it up their rear ends!

It's just disgusting listening to them after these games.

The post-game coverage on MLB Network, and on FS Wisconsin is so, so much better. I switch over immediately after the game.

I put myself through the torture just to see what they say, but last night was it for me...

I'll be switching over after tonight's game.

Counsel has completely changed the paradigm of pitching. They aren’t capable of figuring this out despite mountains of stats that explains the difference between first time and third time through a lineup.

I don't really watch pre- and post-game, but to be honest, I get a little tired of logging on Facebook and seeing 60 posts about how much Buck and Smoltz hate the Brewers. I don't pick up any of that at all and like listening to them, so shoot me.

They are fine. I think people get a little too dialed in to Rock and think that is a broadcaster should call a Brewers game. I really don't get it. Same with the Packers. The national guy heap praise on Hader, Yelich, A. Rodgers. I think it just boils down to liking to complain.

The little I have seen of A-Rod and co., they do seem to lack an understanding of what Counsell is doing, but I think that is more ignorance than hating the Brewers. Most of these guys are still stuck in the traditional methods so a lot of it is foreign to them. I didn't see any coverage last night, but the one post-game I did see, I can't remember the game, but Joe Girardi seemed to really get what we are doing.

When the Brewers were up 2-0 over the Rockies ARod was still heavily criticizing Counsel.

2-1 over the heavily favored Dodgers won’t change that.

Yea, I don't fixate on announcing. Just too focused on watching the game, and I probably don't even really hear half of what they say. They don't follow the team all year, so I really don't expect any well-reasoned analysis.

As for the post game, I saw 2 minutes of FS1 post game, and that was enough. I'm not going to keep going back just to be mad about what they're saying. After a loss, no post game for me. After a win, I'll go to Auggie and the crew and MLB to soak in the win for another half hour. Last night I was actually surprised they all agreed on the Machado interference play (including Harold Reynolds.)

I tend to agree on Smoltz, he generally seems fairly sharp...though he was a bit of a dope on the MM interference stuff, but I would call that less bias and more just getting it wrong. Buck I just find to be a generally annoying human, I don't enjoy his play by play...possibly because I'm so spoiled with BA. They definitely talk more about the dodgers than the brewers...as do the fs1 guys, but it's probably moreso because the network is pushing it that way a bit and the dodgers have more known names than the Brewers. The Dodgers made the WS last year while the brewers have a ton of youth and unknown. It shouldn't be surprising that these guys are assuming that the high paid big market guys will inevitably overtake the brewers.

The guys announcing games are at least one generation of baseball behind the current times, if not more. They're not hating, they're just not happy that "this isn't the game I played", so therefore it's being played wrong and they need to point that out.

This. Even though A-Rod and Papi retired fairly recently, they still have an old school mindset and are having trouble wrapping their heads around a team doing something differently.

I don't think they are rooting for the Dodgers, they're just surprised how much - aside from a couple innings - how much the Brewers are owning them.

If we are sitting in a retirement home and chatting about the old days that’s fine but you’d think they’d add one stats guy to add to the broadcast.

I loved the statcast broadcast of course anything is better than the normal ESPN crew.

In-game guys seem fine. Post-game guys couldn't stop talking about how badly managed last night's game was for the Brewers, despite the Dodgers getting shutout in the postseason in LA for the first time since 1986.

First question to Braun after the game was about how scared he was in the 9th inning.

What’re they gonna do when we win this? Petition the league that starters must go 7 and relievers can only go an inning? But also when they want it, the relievers go a second?

This is probably the biggest thing, although I haven't hear all of Arod's best moments. They used to complain about shifting, until everyone started doing it often. There has been a lot of bemoaning pitchers not going deep in games for a while. This is just an extension of that. There's also some complaining that this isn't the same game as in the regular season. That is somewhat true, but the goal is to win by any means within the rules. If they win the world series, I don't care how the did it.

Well, to be fair the Networks have to constantly promote the game they are broadcasting to drive viewership/ratings. The Dodgers are a historic franchise, laden with superstar players and in one of the largest television markets in the United States, in that context it makes perfect sense they beat the drum for the Dodgers over and over because it is their best best to drum up viewership. On the other hand, the Brewers are a franchise more known for futility than anything else, with no real heritage and no real fan base outside the borders of Wisconsin.

I don't think Buck and Smoltz have anything against the Brewers, the simplest explanation is they're doing what they were told to do in the production meeting in order to drive viewership in the game. Ditto with the talking heads on the pre-game and post-game show.

Maybe don't watch them?

I mean the TV was on after the game watching the post game. I may not watch them tonight, but I don't think it's unreasonable for Brewers fans to want to watch the national coverage of their team and to be disappointed with the result.

I'll add to this that I find Ortiz to be a funny guy. Hard to take much he says seriously, but he adds some laughs to the pregame show which is generally a good thing. I would find it much harder to watch without him.

Everyone is used to our local guys being homers (or at least slanted that way). You aren't going to get that on a national stage especially being a small market where the Packers beat you in the ratings for an NLCS game.

There are some announcers and talking heads that are just so obviously better than most that it's hard to understand how they don't get national gigs. Hernandez and Darling from the Mets, for example. But you have to remember, they're looking for broadcasters who appeal to the masses, most of whom probably hate the audacity of the Brewers for everything they're doing. Being smart and showing it is kind of frowned upon for being uppity in a lot of circles. If you don't like it, better find someone else to watch or get used to it. Is you ready?

Most of us are from Wisconsin, I think we're pretty used to getting overlooked for the bigger market teams. There's a difference between that and the post-game last night. This is honestly not that big of a deal though and these conversations don't have to escalate into a big back and forth assigning blame.

This forum is for discussing and often complaining about things, don't need to tell everyone to stop talking about stuff, otherwise there'd be no forum.

Has the FOX crew yet even criticized Dave Roberts for anything? The guy whose team is actually down in the series? They've questioned CC plenty. If Dave Roberts has escaped criticism, then it becomes clear that the coverage is off base. For instance, Fangraphs showed that leaving Buehler in to hit was a mistake no matter how well he was performing, and even if he wouldn't have given up additional runs. But that's too new world for some people.

Brewers are definitely showing that Fox/MLBN don't know how to promote this team. Chicks dig the long ball, so you often get promotion of big home run hitters and stud starting pitchers. Brewers have neither. It's no excuse, but it's gotta be harder to bill a matchup between Verlander and...a bullpen, or Manny Machado vs Orlando Arcia (two of the three guys who have hit three homers this postseason, Judge is the third).

I'm just enjoying the hell out of this.

Baseball has an older audience and I don't think the vast majority of them want to hear about all these new fangled stats and shifts and things. I imagine the crowd that actually watches pre and post game shows skews much older than the average viewer too. Look how much crap Brian Kenny gets because he dares to use things like statistics to form his opinions and base his show. People want to feel comfortable and hear about things like grit and who wants it more and bunting and playing the right way.
