With the Smoak signing. I think Arcia is done with this Sogard signing. I dont recall if Arcia has an option but in terms of the 26man roster Arcia isn't making it without injury helping him.

I give it till mid April before the majority of fans are calling for his release. Honestly just do not see any upside to this signing and wouldn't at all be surprised if he ends up being below replacement level. I guess dumpster diving in baseball can be quite expensive.

Sogard has averaged around 1 WAR per year over the last six seasons he has played & is most likely, though certainly by no means guaranteed, to come in around that level of production in 2020.

 

Four & a half million dollars is a perfectly cromulent salary for a player of Eric's ilk.

If he struggles like he did in 2018 then he will likely be released before the All Star break, but suggesting that you can predict how he's going to perform or that there is no upside to the deal is not realistic. There's a chance he's going to get hot and hit .340 for half a season again, and at least an equal chance of hitting .160. I don't think that's a $4.5M bet to place.

Maybe the first few weeks of the season they flip flopped a bit. That’s pretty standard as they work out playing time. They quickly weren’t even playing the same position once we dropped the crummy first basemen.

Sogard is NEVER a good option to play, regardless of who else is on the team.

 

If Sogard is your best option, something went terribly wrong from the beginning.

 

He is probably a great teamate and a great human being, but I never want to see him in a Brewers uniform again.

Let's not get carried away with Gyorko. By comparison with most on this roster, he was solid, but his OPS against RHP was under .700. He's better as a platoon player. If Gyroko is batting 4th or 5th, your lineup has issues.

Gyorko is a nice player who fills a role but Sogard needs to go.

Agreed. We need to stop going back to the Sogard well so often! He gave us a good 1/2 season in '17, but has been terrible in a Brewers season ever since. Like many (I'm looking at you Omar!) in '19, I think he benefited greatly from the juiced baseball that MLB was clearly using.
