2021-09-21: Cardinals (Woodford) at Brewers (Woodruff) [Brewers lose, 2-1 -- Crew offense continues to struggle, Solid Woodruff start goes for naught]

This is what happens to a team in a group hitting slump. Everyone is up there trying to hit a HR instead of trying to get on base.

At least they aren’t wasting scoring opportunities.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Was just going to say that. They’re all trying to hit one out

Exactly....put the damn thing in play and stop trying to elevate everything.

I just don't get why, when they are in a hitting slump the way they are right now, some of the guys don't try bunting their way on against the shift...Get on base and see what happens.

Probably because bunting effectively is extremely difficult.

Have the Brewers had any ground ball outs in this game? I can’t think of any. All strikeouts and pop outs.

The Cardinals are winning on a run they scored without the benefit of a hit. Lead off walk. Stolen base. Sacrifice. Sacrifice. Baseball is a great game. But sometimes watching it sucks.

Meanwhile the Brewers put runners on, and they get stranded at 1st.

1-0 feels like 10-0 right now. Just don’t have any confidence anyone is going to do anything.

About the only thing I am thinking is that one of these guys swinging wildly might actually run into one by mistake and send it out.

Because why would we pitch Williams in a 1-0 game that is kinda important?

Jake Cousins hasn't exactly been terrible.

And we're up 10.5 games. This game isn't *that* important.

The last 3 games have been awful to say the least. But watching the Cardinals at the moment, there philosophy and style is very similar to the Giants. Maximize every at bat/pitch/trip on the bases and grind. Brewers look like a team who punched there ticket already.

No, but at the same time they're not doing themselves any favors by struggling to seal the deal.

This has devolved into what we saw earlier this year. Decent pitching. No offense (can't manufacture a run and don't even really try to.) Lose 2-1. Pathetic. What good is getting 10 Ks if your teammates let you down at the plate. Did I say pathetic? Cards play real baseball; we pitch and watch and moan. 2-0 might as well be 20-0.

It sure as heck is to the Reds and Phillies.
