Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread ~ 2022 ~

I'm really not much into any games.  I think I needed to either be born a bit later or be XY instead of XX to really get into video games.  Too many childhood memories of being stuck in a smoke filled basement while my dad's family smoked and drank and played cards and kept smoking...honestly kind of put me off card games.

My parents, my brother and I would play cards while we ate dinner.  Euchre, Sheepshead, Uno, Hearts, Oh Hell (aka Up and down the River), and some others.  Heck, we even pulled out the Parchisi board!

Fortunately, my wife's family did the same thing.  Now, our four adult kids and significant others (none married, yet) will come over and say, "Hey, can we play cards?"  It is something I'm not taking for granted.

That said, my Dad smoked like a chimney.  I don't recall them playing cards and us being nearby.  I think it is because they didn't want the kiddos around while they drank.  Yeah... that's it.

When I ask my 19-year-old son how many card games his buddies know, his response is typically, "not much... maybe War?"  A lot of kids, like you alluded to, would rather play Video games.

What you didn't hang out at the arcade playing Pac Man? I didn't either because I could never afford it. But I got pong for Christmas one year which is where my gaming days started. All in all D&D and board games were far more popular for our generation of gamers than video games. REALLY glad neither of my parents or many in their card playing group smoked. We used to love it when they had a card party. We'd get the leftover snacks. Nothing beats a half bag of day old stale chips, some dried up brownies, cookie crumbs and leftover cold cuts on wonder bread for a 10 year old.

Haha, I don't know of an arcade in Monroe, Wisconsin in Pac-Man's heyday.

We did have Pong.  This was back when my dad was still on the scene and had income and stuff.  But I didn't stick with it, and after he left there wasn't money for much.  At that time, we lived next door to a city park, so we actually did stuff outside.  I know, gasp! ?

I'm now mildly interested to check with my mom to see if that Pong is still around.  Going to guess not.

I got a sample of handmade soap with some cologne I ordered and I've never used handmade soap before, but it was kinda nice. Like the smell of it. Maybe I'll try to make some myself. I thought about making my own solid cologne, but I guess it's a lot harder than youtube makes it look.

I use this for hand soap it smells good and doesn't give me a skin rash like other liquid soaps do:

The only thing that sucks is that is the more popular one that they make so it is constantly sold out.

This is too pointless to post in the MLB forum but I thought was interesting nonetheless. I was getting lost on Baseball Reference and found myself on the 2016 Rays team. Over 1/4 of the guys (and I may have missed some) that played for that team played for the Brewers organization at some point during their careers. Maybe this isn't out of the ordinary but I thought it was surprising.

There is an ad for Roto-Rooter that goofs on their service people wearing clogs. Have not seen it for a few weeks, but I just saw an add for Skechers that uses the same music used in the Roto-Rooter commercial.  Thought it was odd that two commercials related to "feet" use the same background music.  T

I hate paper straws they make everything taste horrible.

Something wrong with putting the glass/cup/bottle to your lips?

One of the reasons for ordering beer - they never give you a straw.

Most beverages have way too much ice, and I don't like ice cubes hitting my teeth when I drink.  The solution is to say with no ice, though.

It was a to go cup and sipping tea is better through a straw than gulping the thing.  Plus the to go cups wax makes tea taste even weirder.

When I was a kid, my mom would tell me to make up my bed. I'd tell her "Why? I don't have to. It's real".

Funny stuff.  If you'd tried that in the Cheesehead household you would have likely gotten a good taste of either Ivory soap or the back of a hand.

I've always, even then, had the dry sense of humor that allowed me to get away with it. Of course eventually making said bed was a good insurance policy just in case.?

We found straws made out of pasta. They work really well for about an hour or so then get soggy.

Just got back from spending time in Iowa and Nebraska. I was shocked to see how many gravel roads they have in major population areas. Very new expensive homes with gravel roads! Is this more common than I think?

Finishing my basement bar this winter and plan on buying a few TVs during Black Friday. If I get two identical TVs, are they going to have a mini stroke when I use the remote for one? They will be right next to each other.

Trying to figure out if I am better off buying two TVs of different brands to avoid issues. I suppose worst case i could use one through a fire stick and the other through the standard remote to avoid interference.

you should be able to disable the remote on one of them I would think.

Right, You'd have to settle on a channel then disable the remote. Then you could switch channels on the other one with the remote. If you wanted to change channels on both of them frequently it'd be more difficult.
