2022 Brewers Optimism Thread!

Yelich back to being an asset helps so much on the long term outlook too. I'm hoping they find a solid price for an upgrade on CF as well, but I want to see a bunch of those OF prospects cycle in as the next young talent to keep things rolling.

Organization is in a really good place. We need to enjoy it. Competitive MLB team with mix of young and veterans, solid manager, excellent front office and development team, healthy minors, great owner. Only downer that blog post about AmFam needing replacing.

The blog post that you are referring to was a little over the top. While Am Fam Field may need to undergo some renovations within the next few years, there are definitely more urgent ballpark situations throughout the league. But yes, so much surrounding this team and franchise to be optimistic about!

Well, stadiums are not built to last 50 - 60 plus years anymore.  The Brewers have a 30 year lease on American Family Field, and that's going to be up in 2030, which isn't really all that far away.  The Rangers only played 25 years in the Ballpark in Arlington, and that was a pretty dang nice field.

In keeping that this is the optimism thread..... I'm optimistic that the Brewers are here for longer than the next 8 years. AmFam has aged fairly well, and the team and the ownership group has been fairly pro-active with updating the amenities pretty often.  I don't think AmFam needs replacing, but it's probably going to be reaching the point by 2030 that there's some structural things that at least need some looking at.

He seems to be returning to his old self bit by bit.   Once his power returns, watch out.  ?

AmFam will always be Miller Park to me.

Despite playing absolutely terrible baseball over the last week, the Brewers are still in first place, with a clear opportunity to start righting the ship against the Nationals this weekend....

I like Yelich leading off.  I hope CC leaves him there even after Wong returns.

He's responded to it well. I'll be satisfied if he locks into the habit of spraying the ball, seeing a lot of pitches & simply finding ways to reach base. Please don't start feeling so much more confident that you return to jumping at pitches, trying to pull & once again turning into a 4-3 groundout machine. His HR the other day, I thought it was a terrific sign that it went to CF.

An optimism thread can't be complete w/o a mention of Alexander. I know W-L are pretty meaningless stats for a pitcher, but he could easily have 2-3 wins.

Brewers are the best team in the division. It looked obvious to me before the season, and the projections agreed. It still looks clear to me. Cardinals are overachieving, Brewers are underarchieving. A losing streak doesn't change that. Brewers will retake the division lead in the upcoming Cardinals series, and keep it the rest of the year.

How sweep it is!!!

This was stated on the television broadcast, but the Brewers now have the same record that they had at this point last season, when they won 95 games and ran away with the division. While the division race will likely be closer this time around, the Brewers are in good shape, especially now that the really difficult part of their schedule is behind them.

I'll put this in the optimism thread because as a lead-off man Yelich has even more incentive, but I was looking at his splits this year and his slash line when he swings at the first pitch (total of 65 PA) is straight-up JBJ level bad.

.183/ .219/.267/ .486

Super weird since typically hitters do really well when they swing at the first pitch. Last year even he had an .866 OPS on first pitch swings. Quite literally those 65 plate appearances are completely tanking his line for the season, without them he is at a 117 OPS+

Over the last 28 days:

Tommy Edman - 0.457 OPS
Brendan Donovan - 0.560 OPS
Giovanny Gallegos (last 14 days) - 7.50 ERA
Nolan Gorman (last 7 days) - 0.549 OPS

Unless the Cardinals acquire several really good players, the Brewers will be in contention until the end.

Brewers will start the second half in first place. I'll take that every day of the week. And a chance to hit the ground running against the Rockies with Burnes, Woodruff, and Lauer all lined up.

Still in first place!!!!!
