They need to do what they did in college basketball and make scheduling tough games a reward come seeding time. That motivates the fringe teams to schedule tough games and even the elite teams would have some motivation to get the bye week.

Right now it is a joke. There is no motivation to schedule good games. Teams just pay mid major universities to come get whipped. Fans don't want to watch that. I would have to think it would be better financially if they can incentivize these universities to risk a loss and not have it end their season completely.

You can't have tough schedules and make it an unofficial rule that 2 losses eliminates you from the playoff.

The change to rewarding conference championships will be interesting. Clemson and Utah would have gotten first-round byes if we were doing the 12-team format this year. That's a massive, massive reward for winning the conference championship game, but it certainly would have made those games really interesting -- as well as the final rankings of the top 4 conference champions (who get the byes). So the decision to put K-State behind Clemson and Utah would be huge.

I'd rather they just do away completely with nonconference games and fill out 12 game schedules entirely within their conferences - particularly with most of the power conferences now or about to have 13-plus teams in them.  If the power 5 conferences all did that there'd be plenty of tough games (home and road) on all their schedules, and an expanded playoff format would allow for multiple teams from each conference to get in - then the outcome of the playoffs can help determine which conferences were actually the strongest and totally diminish the impact preseason rankings have on playoff seeding.

That would never happen. All schools that are not Power 5 of group of 5 schools, wouldn't survive without guaranteed payout games against the Power 5 schools. There is a also a lot of money for networks, schools, and the NCAA to make to have the big non-conference games. Yes 1 preseason and then 12 conference games makes sense, but won't happen for the same reason that anything else happens or doesn't happen in college sports; $.

Like it or not, that's where it's headed anyways - subsidize non-Power 5 college football programs with revenue that they were otherwise receiving for the routine non-conference curbstompings those programs received every September and move on to a more competitive landscape.

Lance Leipold had his QB throw for 544 yards and 5 TD passes PLUS a rushing TD.

He then proceeded to have said QB flip it to the backup QB that then basically tossed the ball into the stands to end the game in 3 OT on a must get two-point conversion. He completely missed a wide open dude right in front of him

Now the Kansas 2nd string QB is actually pretty decent…but still. Game on the line your 2nd string QB should not be the one throwing the ball.

This TCU-Michigan game is off the chain.

44 combined points in Q3 then TCU busts out a 76 yard TD two minutes into Q4, just nuts.

Over & TCU +7.5 bettors rejoicing, Michigan to cover bettors sweating.

Officiating seemed suspect overall, and I’m no Michigan fan, but it seemed like Michigan had two big calls go against them.

Overturning the TD pass and saying he was down just short of the end zone and then Michigan fumbling.

Should have been a targeting call with 25 seconds left.

I’m relieved college basketball has been and still easy pretty darn competitive and balanced.

Im not even sure how people can honestly be fans of these elite college football teams. It doesn’t even feel like an accomplishment to win it all.

I feel like Georgia is going to annihilate TCU. I could be wrong, but seeing this game like 45-17.

Did your internet cut out and this was suppose to say ‘like 45-17 at halftime’?

If so…close

Yeah my Time Machine had a glitch and could only watch until halftime.

it looks like varsity vs 6th graders

Michigan really blew a golden opportunity with the way they slept-walked into the game with TCU.  Hard for me to believe that TCU is really the better team.

At least with Oklahoma and Texas bailing, we will now longer have to pretend that the Big 12 is a major conference and we can go down to a "Power Four."  Really should have happened a few years ago IMO.

Georgia with 354 yards of offense at halftime.

The SEC is just on another level compared to everyone else. Soon to have won 14 out of the last 20 National Championships.

Wonder if Michigan was game planning for Georgia and just totally overlooked TCU because they thought it would be a walk in the park.
