I get all the batted ball data, but calling a homerun a popup is silly.  If you hit a homerun, you hit a ball pretty well.  I think people are taking this data to the extreme at certain points and trying to use it to make it say what they want it to say.

I do think something strange is going on with how the baseball is flying once again after being seemingly deadened during the first six weeks of the season.

This thread has some interesting observations…

Not just “at Night” anymore.

If you ever watch Yankee games you’ll understand. There are tons of pop ups that are hit in that stadium that end up as home runs due the extremely short porch in right.

Yankee stadium has a short porch and wind effects.  Wind doesn't play much of a role in Miller Park with the roof closed.

Yeah, but am fam does have a short porch, which is how Cronenworth’s ball ended up as a home run.

I thought McCutchen would be hitting at least .207 at this point in the season.

I thought Wong would be hitting at least .226 at this point in the season.

I thought Cain would be hitting at least .173 at this point in the season.

It wasn’t hit well but it is a homer in most parks…..he just hit it in the right spot

I know that batting average isn’t really considered as a tool to judge offense but we have a .230 team average and no one anywhere near .300. I realize we have a ton of injuries right now but this still isn’t a good offense regardless.

So my understanding is that hitters see the ball better/have a slightly longer length of time to pickup the ball when batting against opposite handed pitchers. Hiura's data to date indicate he is worse with that extra time. My suggestion is he should close his eyes and swing.

Please apologize to the Hiura family.

Pablo Reyes just doesn't do it for me. Can't wait for Tuesday....

He is making contact every time up there.  Only he and Wong have not struck out today.

I'm not sure if it's quite fair to cast judgments on this offense at this particular point in time with all of our injuries and the fact that we've played 18 games in 17 days. They were more than fine in April and May, albeit with a weaker schedule. A guy like Andrew Benintendi would certainly help, though.

The quality of the contact has never been there for him. What's the use of contact if it's weak contact, other than occasionally moving runners over.
