Honestly, once they were up 3-1, this one just felt different. Just felt like today was the day, and it was. I'm not saying or suggesting they're out of their funk, but the losing streak is over, and maybe (just maybe!) things will start to turn around.

I actually feel weirdly confident about the Mets series...

The Mets are putty in our hands!

They will beg us to leave NYC after a couple of days!

Finally … a win

Today was just enough offense & great run prevention

Alexander has been helpful

While happy with a win today, I’m still not convinced we are better than an 85 win team if healthy

I love baseball … but nothing about this team is “fun” to watch

I feel relief when we win rather than excitement

The Cardinals play 4 at home against the Pirates this week then go to Boston for the weekend.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

The biggest thing right now is just not to get into a huge double digit hole. They're a 1/2 game back right now after an 8 game losing streak.  They're lucky that the Cardinals are not playing well at the same time they're really struggling.

We'll see what happens from here and see what kind of roster maneuvering the front office does from here to the trade deadline can manage to help the team out. After 60-ish games, they're pretty cognizant of what the team's strengths and weaknesses are at this point.

It is significant that the Braves, Padres, and Phillies have been playing well so the league wide race for wild card spots has gotten much tighter than it was 10 days ago.

The weakness of the NL Central might be the biggest point in the Brewers favor if they can get turned around. The playoff contenders in the other divisions are going to be facing tougher competition.

I was just looking at the aggregate records of the teams in each of the divisions relative to .500. They are:

NL East +4

NL West +23

NL Central -28

AL East- +42

AL Central -24

AL West -17

The two Central divisions really stand out, and not in a good way.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

The Cardinals are 5-5 in their last 10. That's half a win less than expected,  based on their win%. That's not "not playing well."

You can't win half a game :)

This was a much needed win.  Hopefully this is a sign the team can get back on track and not go thru another disastrous streak like that again this season.
