First hit of the game for DSL Brewers1 is a 2-run homer by 16-year old $450k bonus man 2B Gery Holguin to tie the game 2-2 in the 4th inning. Take that Phillies Red!

Corey Ray has been horrible but this past week might be his best week ever. 10/20, 2HR, 42B, let's see if he can cap it off with another solid game.

He has struggled mightily in 2022, yes. But, he was also playing through injury much of that first half. This is a recurring theme for him, sadly, and most likely why he was taken off the 40-Man. It definitely looks like he's heading down the road of showcasing for other organizations. Incredible week, though, as you point out. I'm truly happy for him. He always comes across genuine and likable in his interviews with Jeff Hem. He made a lot of efforts this off-season to get his body right - including hiring a chef and nutritionist.

DSL Brewers Uno hung on for their fourth victory beating the Phillies 4-3! Fantastic. Caceres managed a clean seventh inning to close it out - he definitely needed that and so did his squad. Well done!

The DLS Brewers Dos? Ummm, not so much. Four hits and a 9-0 'L'. Ouch. It would appear Anthony Flores did his best Adrian Houser impersonation relinquishing a quick 5-spot to get the game started in a rough direction. He was pulled after 2/3 innings.

A very intriguing night of arms taking the Hill for our Upper Levels teams tonight:

Stiven Cruz

Antoine Kelly

Brandon Knarr

Ethan Small

Personally, I would feel quite a bit better if we saw the version of pre-Call Up Ethan Small here. He's scuffled quite a bit in his starts since being sent back down. I would love to see a confident dominant outing. Let's hope he turns it around.

The Mudcats have lost 4 straight at Down East, so are in “salvage pride” mode. RHP Stiven Cruz (4.31 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, 10.6 K/9 in 31 1/3 innings) makes his 8th start of 2022. C Jeferson Quero has 4 homers this month to boost his June OPS to .978:

The Timber Rattlers have won 3 in a row at home against Quad Cities and have to feel good about having MLB rehabber Kolten Wong leading off and hard-throwing LHP Antoine Kelly (3.34 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 11.7 K/9 in 64 2/3 innings) on the mound:

After a walk-off win last night, Biloxi leads their home series 3-1 over Pensacola, with LHP Brandon Knarr making his 4th start in AA ball but still looking for his first win. 1B Thomas Dillard had 4 RBIs yesterday and has an .834 OPS in June:

AAA Nashville is tied 2-2 in this week’s series at home against Gwinnett, with future star LHP Ethan Small (3.44 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 10.5 K/9 in 49 2/3 innings) starting tonight. DH/1B Tyler White had 3 hits yesterday and is enjoying an .824 OPS in June:

The Mudcat offense is struggling just a tad with Jackson Chourio and Eduardo Garcia getting a day off. No hits through 6 innings against Down East. Down 4-0.

Posted

Joe Gray Jr. with a night 3-4 with 2 HRs and a double, hopefully it's a Spring Board for a better second half.

The dominant version of Ethan Small is back. 1 run, 3 hits, 1 walk, 10 Ks in 7 innings.

David Dahl’s 2-run homer was all the offense needed. 2-1 Nashville over Gwinnett.

The one walk was the key there for Small. If he can keep doing that he'll be just fine. Outside of the one home run, Kelly was pretty darned good too. Nice night for the system's two best pitching prospects.

The Shuckers came up just short in the 9th but Valerio had a big night with 4 hits including his 10th homerun of the season.

For those who have actually watched the Shuckers this year, is it just bad luck or is there a reason why Valerio's batting average seems lower than it should be given his strikeout rate and the pop he has displayed?

Well, I’m chalking it up to: qualities of a long baseball season. In this regard,  it’s more the by-product of a rough month of May. He has been fantastic in April and June if you take the whole. I would say some of it is injury-related there as he struggled to regain form after that awkward slide awhile back as his mini slump continued a couple games returned from that stint.

When I watch him, and I watch Biloxi fairly regularly, I still see the same savvy hitter and fantastic baseball player I’ve grown to love. I can honestly say: I could most likely count bad AB’s from Felix this season on one hand. He just doesn’t give away AB’s. Something I also do not take for granted: In over 400 innings played (primarily 2B tho I would gather he has 40 or so innings in left field) he has a mere four errors. He’s as steady as they come. I love the player and he appears to carry himself extremely well.

We could definitely point to the bullpen and the combination of Luis Contreras and Harold Chirino conceding 7 runs (6 earned) in the 7th and 8th innings. Where for art thou early season dominant Harold?!??

Nice to see Ethan Small return to form. We will need him again on the big league club at some point.

When his fastball is doing this, he really looks the part:

I’ve said it before but that pitch in its highest form can reallllly sneak up on hitters and he absolutely needs it. I also had to double take as that’s a Home broadcast. It would appear Jeff Hem is tending to a family matter until Tuesday. I sure hope everything is ok!
