Well that's a power play for sure.  Let's see how this unfolds.  4 super conferences incoming?

How would that even work schedule wise unless some other west coast teams would be added.

That trip from LA to Rutgers would be fun

Yeah that is like a 4 or 5 hour flight.  Though weather wise I think it is a plus especially in October or September.

Lots of benefits.  Open up LA market for TV, embedded in the hot bed for recruiting now.  My first thought was maybe bring 4 more for 20 which gives you 6 on the coast.  Maybe shake things up big with 24.  4 divisions of 6 teams...have something like usc/UCLA/az/asu/wash/Oregon.....Utah/,colo/neb/Iowa/Iowa state/kan...wis/I'll/nw/min/Purdue/mich....osu/msu/ind/psu/mar/rut.

I would anticipate this may open the floodgates to a bigger shakeup.

I'm a bit bummed that Washington isn't joining as well because I would like to see the Badgers football/basketball teams play in Seattle at some point.

Hopefully the Pac-12 and Big-12 merge, that would be the best case scenario for the fans with the remaining teams. Otherwise are we going to have a "Pacific Northwest" division of the Atlantic Coast Conference?

I guess this explains why the PAC-10 was aligning with the B10 in all of the playoff negotiations this past winter.

I think if we wanted to get Notre Dame we would have had to implode the ACC and eliminate that as option.  Would be nice to grab them into the fold for their brand for sure.

This is good for UW and the BIG, but horrible for college sports. I’m not saying that its horrible for the colleges or networks, but for the sport. We are in a collision course of 2 conferences that matter in NCAAAF.

Yup. And I think especially had for MBB as a whole. Super conferences mean more stratification, more transferring up, fewer chances for A10 or WCC schools to build programs, and, ultimately, more mediocre power conference schools in the NCAAT.

I don’t see much affect on basketball unless they completely change the tournament which makes too much money to. There will still be automatic qualifiers, I think football is where we will see a completely change of how things are done. Cinderella will still occasionally show up to the dance, not matter what the SEC and BIG do.

I will say though with NIL money now top players will be in the SEC and BIG and the AAC, BE, PAC10, and Big12 fighting for scraps.  Those players are the 1 and done type though, the secondary conferences can develop players for the every once and a while run with a vet team.

From a BE perspective, assume the B10 goes to a 22-game conference schedule. That's two fewer opportunities for Marquette to play Ohio State.

Even if they stay at 20, you're going to have more of the super conference teams playing each other and more emphasis on easy guarantee games to fill out home court schedules. I think it makes life harder and brings less balance to hoops side.

I can’t argue with your logic. I’m sure any B1G/SEC vs BE challenges will be gone. Marquette really only schedules a 1 or 2 major matchups pre-conference not including the challenges./ holiday tournaments. But clearly the more conference games those teams play, the less opportunities the BE would have to play those schools.

This should be great for college football. Hopefully it means the end of non-conference games and neutral site games that aren’t bowls. It should also level the playing field among the top 30-40 teams and make playoff selection easier. The old system was a mess.

Plus these California teams having to play true road games in November in the Midwest??? FINALLY.

The fact is, there are way too many D-1 football programs and most of them are losing money. Time for some of these schools to stop pretending that they can play with the big boys.

Basketball will be fine. There will be a couple of basketball conferences for schools like Marquette to play in. Better for them to not have football falling the shots.

@owbc the big east is fine and won’t change from this. I’m glad the BE saw this a decade ago and got rid of all of the football schools.

I think you are right, maybe one tune up game for the big boys and then 11-12 conference games will be their season.

I wonder if this was the plan to be able to get to that $1 billion mark for the new TV deal after the 2023 season.

I totally get this. And it makes sense for football. Obviously, it completely revolves around football.

The part I don't buy is the basketball will be fine part. Well, it isn't even that I don't buy it. Probably, yeah. Fine. But worse off. Football is driving the bus at all these places, and this will increase the separation between haves and have-nots in MBB. Super conferences make sense in football. In basketball, they mean an NCAA tourney without St. Peter's.

I disagree, there will still be automatic qualifiers, conference tournaments. The model they have makes a ton of money, i just don’t think the NCAA will change it. I do agree football can make a ton more with what I think they are moving to.
