Game Thread (8/05/2022): Reds (Dugger) at Brewers (Lauer) - 7:10 PM CDT

Rogers probably still has jet lag and will be out for at least another week to recover.

Would have been nice to get through this game without using Williams for the third day in a row.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

We should have a 6 or 7 game lead but we’ve given away a ton of winnable games to date

Tonight’s game is indicative of how we struggle to put a bad team away

Cardinals have done very little that's impressive this year themselves. The Reds also did take a series from the Yankees and probably should have swept them. I'll take a 5-1 win any day.

Pittsburgh got shut out 1-0 tonight by Baltimore.    Hahaha.     All these teams are so bad like the giants and they just whip our rear ends and then go back to losing

Yes and no. It would have been nice to not have to go to Williams again. He night be done for the rest of the series. Hopefully he won’t be needed on Sunday.

Glad we won

I don’t believe you really believe that statement - “all that matters”

That’s simply not true

We are barely keeping our head above water

I fear we are slowly drowning

At least their games are entertaining

I can tell you that there was nothing entertaining about the 49ers game last year...We also may be watching an offense struggle with that team, too.

The Reds haven’t swept anyone with this roster & likely won’t

Obviously glad for the win. But Gott, for crying out loud, you go out in the ninth with a four run lead & start walking people, that just lets your team down when you have to get Devin up & into the game.

Lauer was great after a rough first.

I can agree that the Brewers and Cardinals have both been unimpressive this year.

Winning is, in fact, all that matters. If we don't win tonight, then the next day becomes more difficult, and so on. On the subject of the Packers, I would encourage you to R-E-L-A-X. They may make the playoffs or they may not. But I will always enjoy the opportunity to watch competitive Brewers baseball, because you never know what tomorrow will bring.

The majority of the Brewers games feel similar to the 49ers loss

The Packers definitely have been unreliable in the playoffs - but they have been pretty dynamic & enjoyable in the regular season

This year’s Brewers team has not been dynamic on a regular basis

I don't know how it's been for you, but the Packers have definitely given me more heartache over the past decade than the Brewers have. Sure, 2018 was tough, but that's nothing compared to pretty much any of the Packers' playoff losses in that timeframe.

I’ll try once more to restate what I’ve said several times

This 2022 Brewers team has been unenjoyable & unwatchable at times

The Packers teams have been extremely fun to watch in the regular season with a rare dud of a game - Saints opener last year comes to mind

The playoffs are a different story - but  neither team has won anything in the playoffs … since 2010 for Green Bay & never for the Brewers

I'm paying attention and I would absolutely NOT accept that it's "likely" Milwaukee will implode down the stretch. In fact, I'd argue it's more likely they take off in September and, per usual, that's their strongest month as has been pretty common in Counsell's tenure.

Our #4 starter just went out and threw 7IP and gave up 1ER.

I don't believe a team with Woodruff, Burnes, Peralta, Lauer, Ashby, hopefully a healthy Houser and then 6-7 at LEAST above average Bull Pen arms will "implode."

In fact, I might say that Brewers fans are a BIT fatalistic right now and ignoring the fact that the Brewers are 3rd in the NL in OPS, 4th on OBP, 4th in runs scored...

So that offense with the pitching staff...nah, I'm not coming up with the implosion.

I'm curious why you are? Because we went from Hader to Rogers, Bush and then hopefully Rosenthal and possibly some type of reinforcements in the way of Turang or Ruiz in CF. That suggests implosion to you?

This 2022 team has had its share of injuries & to date has underperformed & given away several winnable games

Over the past three months, they are playing under .500 baseball

If you read some of the early posts in the Hader trade thread, I actually celebrated the trade - I like the return of a few good prospects & a top MLB closer

I surely hope I’m wrong on the implosion … on paper, our starters names that you’ve listed are impressive

Burnes & Woodruff are A+ … Lauer is off & on, but quality … Ashby is the future … Houser has had a down year, but is certainly capable

Our bullpen may have improved with Bush & Rosenthal

But through 100+ games, this team doesn’t have what a few recent teams have had - the current Brewers are lackluster defensively & can’t seem to put teams away

I seem to remember the 2018 Brewers...roughly around this time of year losing something like 9 of 10 and getting swept by the Pirates over a 5 games series.

The '19 Brewers were just a couple games over .500 heading into Sept...without Yelich when he was having the best offensive season in Brewers history and they finished I think 89 and 73.
