AA Biloxi seeks to extend its winning streak to 9 games in Pensacola tonight, sending out LHP Nick Bennett to replicate his last solid outing (5 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 7 Ks). SS Ethan Murray has acclimated reasonably well since his promotion (.732 OPS in 34 plate appearances):

AAA Nashville needs a home win over Jacksonville tonight to grab a 3-2 series lead, with Hortonville-native RHP Caleb Boushley looking for another great start (6 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 1 K last time out). 3B Cam Devanney has reached base in 9 of his last 10 games:

We may have finally found the level that Chourio isn’t quite ready for at 18 years old…….either that or he’s just running on fumes after a long season.

1-for-17 in AA ball with 8 strikeouts, including K'ing in his last 4 plate appearances (last 2 yesterday, first 2 today). If we wanted him to taste some humble pie so that he works hard this offseason, I guess he's gotten it. Gonna be very interesting how he performs in AA ball next season.

What is everyone take on Lutz

First good season since 2019, benefiting from repeating a year in AA, really taking a step forward when he returned from an injury in mid-May.

But the .775 OPS loses luster when you see the Southern League OPS average this year is .754. And the .348 BABIP will likely fade when facing AAA defense, though I guess the shift ban will help him out. Plays mainly right field, so the arm is decent.

I see him playing in Nashville next year but being “just a guy” - .730 OPS, then becoming a minor league free agent, playing one season in AAA elsewhere, then off to Korea or Mexico.

But he’s just 24 years old, so there’s still hope for MLB one day (.911 OPS against lefties this season, .900 last year) if he can demonstrate 30-HR potential in AAA-level ball.

I wonder is Quero would have been promoted...were it not for the depth we already have at catcher?

In any event, there was no "bad" ending to this season for Chourio. So the kid isn't QUITE ready to dominate at AA. He's barely old enough to be able to purchase tobacco. Or, as someone else suggested, maybe he's just hit the wall.  I suspect the only difference between 1-17 and 6-17 would have been a foot note in his prospect ranking where he'll likely find himself in the top 5 to start next year.

why are they DHing Ruiz, when he needs OF reps?

Likely just rotating players. I'd rather see Ruiz in CF rather than Davis who is likely playing his final few weeks in this system, but...meh.

I will say I'm encouraged by his production at Nashville. I'd thought perhaps his numbers with the Pads AA/AAA were aided a bit by hitter friendly leagues, but he just seems...legit. 5SB, 2Hs, 3-3 and a walk in the last...4-5 games?

Seems likely one of our AAA OFers in part of a trade this off-season, but great "problem" to have.

It's a big leap from A+ to AA especially for an 18 year old who was doing great at A+, but wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire like he did in A ball. Jasson Dominguez, the number 2 prospect in the Yankees system, is over a year older than Chourio and was similarly called up for the final week of AA. He's currently slashing .063/.167/.188 through 4 games.

Kind of happy we opted to give Quero a 3-week breather (before the Arizona Fall League games) while having Jason Lopez, Wes Clarke and Nick Kahle take turns at AA catcher in these final weeks. Good way to spread around playing time.

Fair enough. As I've said on here, I'm more ignorant about our organizational depth than I've been in the last 15-20 years. I didn't know really anything about Cam Devanney coming into this year. You guys turned me onto him...and then I spent a lot of time looking at scouting reports and highlights, but I just haven't followed as closely.

I get to 10-15 games in Appleton a year when I'm in the area, so I don't know anything about Lopez, I know a little about Clarke and Kahle and both seem like potential 4A or better players. Actually...even that I'm largely going off their line.

Haven't really seen Kahle catch(did catch some of Clarke...looked alright...if he hits).

I did not understand the Reetz situation. I thought he looked like someone who could be a MLB catcher, but...I guess the thinking there is you have depth in Caratini and Severino with Feliciano as an offensive first catcher and then some other guys coming up and he wasn't worth a 40 man spot this off-season anyway?

Anyway, always appreciate the insight you provide on here.

Right...I don't think anyone's going to view him any differently. This guys take time to adjust. He won't turn 19 until after next season begins(well, until camp begins).

Side note, your Dominguez comp is valid and makes perfect sense, but I hate the idea of him(not him, just the pomp and circumstance around him). He has to be the most hyped LA signing ever because he was...I don't know, signed by the Yanks and big? This guy is already Mike Trout with more power.

Also almost 2 years older than Chourio...IIRC.

Anyway...it's a perfect comp. A highly regarded young player moving up aggressively. Yankees fans have just been SO annoying about that kid.

Yeah, looks like Reetz was blocked by 23-year old Feliciano (only one option year left, so likely to sit on MLB roster most of next season) and Caratini. When we DFA’d Severino, then Narvaez got injured that same evening (with Alex Jackson also injured), it seems Reetz or his agent seized the opportunity to threaten to opt out, so we 40-man rostered Reetz as urgent depth.

But then Severino cleared waivers and accepted a minor league assignment, so Reetz ended up being DFA’d to clear space for pitchers. No other team claimed him off waivers, which tells me that his prospect star isn’t burning as brightly as I’d imagined (maybe his defense isn’t solid enough yet).

But he’s hitting well for AAA Omaha (Royals) now (.308 average, 1.012 OPS in 61 plate appearances), so he’s certainly out to prove the entire league wrong and earn his way onto a 40-man roster.
