Gallo to the Twins

Joey Gallo is garbage. Even his ‘good’ 2021 was a .199 batting average and 213 strikeout. Lol at paying $11mil for a 40% K rate. Should have asked the Brewers about Hiura at that point. At least he is cheap.

Chris Carter was out of the league performing like Gallo.

Difference between Chris Carter and Joey Gallo is that Gallo is a plus runner and plays GG defense. Why he still put up a 4.5 WAR despite those numbers.

Of course, he couldn't even put up those numbers and was a negative defender this season per Fangraphs. He's about the last player that the Brewers should be signing at this point.

The good doesn't require quotation marks.  He was good. Almost 5 WAR in 2021.  He was really good at pretty much everything except k rate/batting average.

Now, if you believe 2022 is who he will be going forward, then yeah, he was trash last year.

The Twins have something like six reasonable options for corner OF, all left-handed.

Not "most" left-handed.

Every. Single. One.

I do not understand this signing one bit and it feels like a panic move after losing on Correa.

$11 million to a career .199 hitter over 2800 PAs Wow.

37% of his career hits are home runs. But still...wow.

I wonder what Keston will get as a FA.  :-)

From 2017-21, even with all the Ks and low batting average, Gallo racked up 14.4 WAR which tied him for 40th in MLB with Rizzo & Muncy.

His .289 ISO did the heavy lifting for his value ranking 3rd in MLB over that stretch, while his base running (+16.8, 20th) and defense (+38 DRS, 12th | +18.1 UZR, 19th among OF) provided nice value around the edges.

Obviously that all cratered once he was traded to NYY.

Hopefully getting out of the big apple can get him back to normal, which even with 2022 included has been 3.2 WAR/600 PA over the course of his career.

And that's fine, I want neither on the 2023 Twins roster.

Again, so many LHB corner OF bats, no good RHB options. In the end, it may be a decent lateral move but for a team once in deep with Correa, it's going to take more than lateral moves to salvage this offseason.

Would you like Swanson at SS … or would that too be simply “reacting / responding” to not signing Correa?

Who is left in FA that fills the RH bat for the corner OF?

Swanson would be fine but is not a great choice. If you can get him at 6/$150, maybe. Still probably a bad choice but not terrible. I'd rather have Correa at 11/$325, which I think the Twins could have had him at.

Correa’s back issues scare me - especially with a lengthy contract

So between the Twins and the Brewers, the upper Midwest is cornering the market on LH-OFers...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Tip of the hat go David Laurila of FanGraphs for this funnest of facts…

Yadier Molina had a .327 OBP, 176 home runs, and 1,577 singles.

Joey Gallo has a .325 OBP, 177 home runs, and 198 singles.
