Brewers Defensive Runs Saved…

2022: +55 DRS (7th)
2021: +61 DRS (6th)
2019: +26 DRS (13th)
2018: +121 DRS (2nd)

Add it all up an the Brewers are 4th in Defensive Runs Saved over the last five years.

If Arnold is anything like Stearns, the Brewers defense should end up among the better units in MLB once again.

Still hard to believe that the Brewers are starting the season with 2.5 outfielders on the roster.

This is false. We have 6 guys capable of playing in the outfield on the 26 man. That's plenty...

Exactly. For years now it has been quite evident that this is a team that values versatility. Brian Anderson's ability to play solid to above-average defense at both 3B and in the corner OF made him an ideal fit for this roster. In the little bit I saw of Owen Miller in the OF during spring, it appears that he took to CF quite well. Jesse Winker has never been a great defensive OF, but he has logged A LOT of innings out there, and if he is truly over his injury issues, he'll be serviceable out there. Brice Turang also saw time in the OF in Nashville last year specifically preparing for this scenario.

Plus if a Brewers OF were to suffer an injury, Wiemer, Frelick and Perkins are only a phone call away. They are fine.

Does anyone know if the taxi squads that have traveled with the big club are still a thing?

I think it's ok for those who are fine with the outfielders that we have on the roster now, but as soon as one of the "non outfielders" who are taking up outfielders positions blow a catch, or a big play in the game, some people might not feel so fine with the roster construction.

We'll see what happens, but if we lose a game or two on questionable outfield play from guys who don't normally play those positions, it is going to be a bit bothersome.

BAv2 has over 1500 innings in RF with positive DRS and UZR every year he's played out there. Pretty good for a "non-outfielder"...

I suspect it'll be Mitchell, Yelich, Winker, Anderson getting the vast majority of playing time out there, I'm expecting Miller to more or less be glued to the bench.

I guess I'm more comfortable with this scenario than what they've done fitting square pegs into round holes in the past playing guys like Moose and Shaw (and Hiura for that matter) at 2B. Taylor's injury really throws things out of whack. Of course, that injury is also probably directly resulting in Turang making his MLB debut today, so at least there is some silver lining excitement.

I’d just like to say thank you Bob Uecker for beginning the 53rd straight year of calling Brewers games, he’s a part of the lineup too.
