Cardinals (Montgomery) vs Brewers (Lauer): 4/8/23, 6:10pm

Can't believe someone had the gall to say in this thread that Lauer is better than Montgomery. Montgomery is so much better than Lauer. He's had our hitters on strings most of the night.

Hard to complain too much that it appears the team is going to “fall” to 6-2 tonight.

Never give up!  No dialing it in against the cards!

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Is anything Montgomery or other crafty lefties have done to the brewers really applicable to this squad? Yelich might be the only guy starting today that was also starting for us 2 years ago...

Steele completely shut down the Brewers offense and Montgomery is well on his way to doing the same thing. They did get to Peterson.

Until shown otherwise, though, lefty starters continue to look like a weak spot for the Brewers offense.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yes. Wiemer has also started every game since he was called up.

Dollars to donuts Wiemer gets the day off tomorrow and Yelich is back to leading off.

As much as the Brewers have been a pretty smart franchise of late it says alot that the one mistake they did make the Yelich contract could be a killer. You just can't make any mistakes in baseball in a small market.

I'm not sure it was such a terrible decision. It was the injury. He hasn't been the same since.

Contreras isn't sitting....

He hasn’t been hitting much yet either. A few singles and a lot of Ks.

To be fair they extended him after the injury.

That is part of the risk of course. True they couldn't plan for it but given what we know the chance he would still good into his age 38 season were low.

For 25 players - production is the key to playing time

For Yeli - not required … we need to remember “how much he cares” … I’m told it is far more than any of us

I thought it was before.

No he busted his knee cap in the 2019 season and was extended in early 2020.

Ok. Well then, it probably was a mistake. Before the season or spring training?

Narvaez had a horrible 2020 and rebounded in 2021 before going horrible again.  This is new experiences working with this pitching staff and under the pitch clock. Catchers aren't prone to hitting. He's contributed a share of clutch singles in 7 games. It's a learning curve. One I think being a mistake batting high at 5 vs 6 or 7 while he progresses.

If Contreas is not as good as we thought then this lineup will have issues again with lefties. Last year he kinda came out of nowhere.

I think he'll get it going.  He hit .278 last year.

I’m so glad I’m not alone on this topic

Bite the bullet & …

release him

bench him

drop him in the order

This doesn’t solve anything, though. Yelich is still a capable baseball player and the Brewers are paying his salary no matter what.

The team is likely 6-2 after tonight. Let’s take a deep breath together. 162 games.

Doesn’t he run well.   I don’t know how the knee matters.    If his knee was a problem would he not be able to run

I've been over this before. Nobody will be able to ever convince me that his downfall wasn't because of what Yu Darvish said. If it was his knee his speed would've suffered too.
