I do think there's an interesting note about how things played out last night related to Green Bay's pick last night and the board setting up for today- there were a few guys projected for the 42-45 range at Edge that moved up into the 1st round somewhat unexpectedly. That perhaps reduces some of the negativity surrounding the Van Ness pick, as it seemed like they took a good option, but at a position with mid-round depth in this draft. Now that some of that depth isn't going to be there, the pick looks somewhat better in that regard.

That also means the Pack is setup to have pass-catcher options with both 2nds here, and some maneuverability if they want to go up and get one. There's a chance they could end up with two of Hyatt/Washington/Mayer/Musgrave, and that coupled with LVN yesterday makes for a pretty exciting draft outlook today.

Levis or Hooker seem like a good future QB pickup for the Lions to draft and develop a year. They have Goff for 2 seasons signed who I'd not want to extend if I'm them. Maybe trade after 2023 to a team who may want to.  If I'm on a correct feel, Arz has 33 to trade down with the hungry QB teams that want to start Levis or Hooker from day 1.

Porter Jr. sounds like the easy pick for Pittsburgh filling need and Sr. being the former stud for them.

One thing is almost a certainty with every single Packers draft:

The vast majority (fans and pundits) will hate the 1st round pick - they hated Gary, they questioned Jaire and Clay etc. Even one of my favorites in Tony Pauline seems to never get the Packers selections early - last night included (tho, he absolutely loved the Jaire and Elgton picks at the time) as he didn't see the need.

I think many of us here understand: you can literally never have enough pass rushers and when Gary went down that couldn't have been more obvious. They don't know if Hollins will repeat that efficacy or if Enegbare takes another step. They don't know when Gary returns and what his play will look like coming off a major injury. Anyhow, the pick made and makes tons of sense. It's a worthy swing at a very young extremely large, fast, and athletic multi faceted rushing weapon. It isn't rocket science why they grabbed him. And, it always goes back to the age old adage: Nobody knows. Nobody. How these players will pan out.

I don't think hate is the right word. Surprised is more accurate. People that follow the draft get their favorite players, when said player is still around, they assume that the GM has the same love for said player as you do. Van Ness wasn't really a player I thought GB would target, so I was kind of shocked when it was made, but after that wore off I am happy with it.

As I get older, I realize there isn't much point to getting worked up, players that can't miss, fail. Picks that people hate succeed. Its why I always think its better to trade down rather than up and just get as many darts as you can to try to hit the bullseye.

The most surprising thing about that run on Edge rushers is that it started with the 15th pick, in part because Green Bay's pick swap allowed Pittsburgh to trade up to 14 and grab the last OT with a first round grade (Broderick Jones).  The Packers met with Will McDonald during the pre-draft process (he's from Milwaukee)...but most analysts I read thought it was for the 2nd round.

Getting that pick swap in the Rodgers deal meant the Jets didn't get the blocker (for Rodgers) which most pundits thought they would covet; something to watch if #8's sack totals start to rack up in the first few weeks of next season.

Early word pre Rds 2 n 3 I am reading via Tony Pauline:

1) Lot of love for Cincy's Scott (WR) and OSU's Wypler (OC) amongst many teams

2) Expect a run on Centers, actually - all the Big 10 guys seem to be in play early including Penn State's Juice Scruggs

3) Titans are lead candidate to grab Levis and, apparently, the Raiders tried to trade back into Rd 1 for Hendon Hooker

4) Rd 3 could see San Fran target a qb they've been linked to for awhile - Dorrian Thompson-Robinson

5) Tho we likely do not see a Trey Lance trade it seems likely, actually, Jonah Williams is sent out

Alright, Pittsburgh is officially on the clock. Round 2 is underway. It has been reported in multiple locales they've been taking a load of phonecalls looking to trade up - I've heard of five teams wanting to move into that spot (yowza).

The feel good possibility here is they grab Joey Porter's son.

Ok, Pittsburgh goes CB Joey Porter Jr. Feel good story. Pitt struggles developing CB's for whatever reason. There's obviously the bloodline here within the organization but I don't quite understand what the Steelers are doing now - they have a man scheme and they now have essentially all zone CB's. Perhaps they are changing things this year?

Arizona wisely trades down and takes the Titans desperate need to trade up for their QB. QB Will Levis' slide is going to end. He is going to be a Titan.

No way 3 of the next 7 picks are TEs, and I'm happy with Mayer, Washington or Musgrove.

edit: okay, maybe 2/6

I think the thing we need to remember here is, even if the TE's go, this is a very deep TE class. There are solid TE's in the 3rd and 4th rds. I think the Packers stand pat knowing there is ample talent all over.
