He can only play who's on the roster. Wiemer and Turang pretty much have the 8 and 9 spots on lock.

Why? That's stupid. Best hitters up top, worst hitters at the bottom. I learned that when I was 5. Miller is the worst hitter on the roster, besides Winker. The fact he's still hitting 4-6 and not 8/9 everyday tells you that CC doesn't realize that Miller is horrible at hitting...or he doesn't care and his obsession with AAAA utility players lives on. CC should have had a bug in MA's ear weeks ago to get him a 1b from the minors as he realized Miller stopped hitting(while Tellez wasn't getting it done)

Sounds like a conversation he should be having with MA. If his hands were as tied as you make it seem, I think we'd see Miller hitting 8/9 more often than he hits in the 4-6 range. Just a few days ago he was batting cleanup.

I’m sure they have talked about it but if you look at the lineup nobody is hitting like a middle of the order bat other then Yelich or Contreras…..who he prefers at the top……at least right now.

You are frustrated they don’t have better options…….so is CC and everybody else……guys they counted on either haven’t hit….are hurt…..or both.

The deadline might bring some help……but those trades happen at the last minute…….so here we are…….it isn’t CC’s fault…….he is smarter then everyone on this board…….I feel confident in that opinion.

You can't just take away his best month but count all his negative months against him....And that's patently false because Turang and Taylor have easily been worse hitters.

CC isn't in control of the roster. MA is. Seems clear that they're targeting the deadline for upgrades. But that's still more than a week away...Until then, CC is going to stick with Miller likely due to the defense he provides at 1B.

Both Wiemer and Turang have a lower ops then Miller…..plus they are rookies.

if I have my choice of one of those guys up in a key situation I’ll take my chances with Miller over the other 2,,,,,,,,even though the difference isn’t worth much……which makes your outrage on this topic kind of strange.

They are all poor hitters……..somebody has to hit at the bottom……the difference between 6th and 8th or 9th in the lineup isn’t a huge deal……really it’s not.

Ok fine, turang can hit 9 with Miller at 8. Taylor almost never plays to this point, so he's a silly person to include. Despite your best efforts to argue that miller is not that bad of a hitter...or something, he's approaching 1000 career PA of 645 ops production. I would be more inclined to blame MA if Miller was hitting 8/9, but since he's hit in the top 6 spots consistently in July... Clearly CC views him as a productive hitter which is laughable.

You're efforting really hard to argue that I said Miller was a good hitter...or something.

Merely that Counsell has no better options right now and that Miller is playing due to his defense at 1B. There's little difference between 6 and 8 in the order anyways, as @markedman5has pointed out. And both Wiemer (84 wRC+) and Turang (59 wRC+) have been worse hitters on the season.

Honestly a little surprised the Reds haven't struck a trade going into this series, since it's their last 3 head-to-head games against the Brewers (after losing every other series this season to the Crew).

The Reds pitching has been pretty decent recently. Ashcraft has had 4 straight quality starts (including one against the Brewers in a 1-0 loss) and allowed only 5 runs total in those games.

Aboott has had just the one rocky outing against the Brewers, but he has also shut them out once and held them to 2 solo HRs the third time.

Lively has also held the Brewers to just one run in his two (relatively short) starts against them.

The Reds pitching against the Brewers in the last two series has generally been fine. If they can find a way to score the 3-4 runs that’s usually enough to beat the Brewers they will be in good shape.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I think Sophia Minnaert needs to get that breaking interview with Craig Counsell's mother ... I would love to hear her views on the roster and the economics of baseball.

If the brewers score 1,1,3 in these three games against the reds I can safely say we will lose all three

Again, who else are you going to play at 1B right now?

No options.
How about the 300 aVG, 900 +OPS 1B in AAA with no errors at the position, who hit ..776 OPS with us  last season.

I was talking about options on the 26 man roster as of today.

This guy sucks, time to get a million hits today.

Yeah. Ashcraft has been better lately but his underlying data is still pretty bad. No excuses.

He's been pretty good against better lineups than he is facing tonight.  He dominated this lineup last time he faced them..  This is the same as the Braves series, just hope we can hold their bats down enough.

Robbery! I can’t believe that ball carried that far…..man is he strong.

I'm sure mlb.com will have him on the front page with the caption "DLC almost hits it over the wall in dead center."
