Desmond King has been released. We're going young, but he's a guy who's transitioned to playing Safety, but was an AP slot CB. Creates turnovers and good vs the run. We're not deep at slot corner.

I think we're going to try and trade one OL...and may trade for a TE/Safety, but most likely pick one up after all the final cuts are made.

-Nijman He's fallen behind Walker and Tom at OT now it appears. He won't be cut, but traded for a ~5th Rd pick? Saves another 4.3M
Newman has experience a C, G and RT. If Van Lannen is worth a 7th, Nijman should be easily traded and Newman for a 7th. But we don't have a whole lot of depth on the IOL.

Offense(25)
QB; 2-Love, Clifford
RB; 2-Jones, Dillon
TE/FB; 4-Deguara, Musgrave, Kraft, Allen
Waiver wire/Blocking TE
OL; 10 Bakhtiari, Jenkins, Myers, Runyan, Tom, Nijman, Walker, Newman, Rhyan, Jones
WR; 7-Watson, Doubs, Reed, Wicks, Heath, Toure, Dubose

Defense(25)
DL; 6-Clark, Wyatt, Slaton, Wooden, Brooks, Ford
OLB; 5-Gary, Smith, Van Ness, Enagbare, Hollins
MLB; 5-Walker, Campbell, McDuffie, Wilson, Carpenter
CB; 5-Jaire, Douglas, Nixon, Valentin, Gaines(he plays so much STs and can move around on defense), Stokes(PUP-If he's still not even practicing, and I wouldn't count on him coming back at full speed until week ~8 with the knee and foot surgery and Lisfranc requiring a plate...so I expect a frustratingly long return and very little updates until after the fact, ala Bakhtiari, but they won't do anything to risk the 1st rounders future).
S; 4-Savage, Ford, Johnson Jr, Leavitt

STs-3
K-Carlson
P-Whelan(thought it would have been O'Donnell)
LS-Matt Orzech

PS(16)
QB-McGough
RB-Taylor, Wilson
FB-Pearson(unless they can find another H-Back or TE)
WR-Dubose, Miller, Bonds
OL-Empey, Telfort
DL-Waiver pick? I didn't see anyone worth anything.
Edge-Cox Jr(I think it comes down to 7 WRers over 6 Edge rushers...I'd go the other way, but...we'll see).
MLBer-Phillips
CB-Ballentine, Jean-Charles, Thomas
S-Owens, Moore

IPP--Kenneth Odumegwu

Packers will no doubt look to add depth at Safety,

Goodson-Released, IR Settlement
Tenuta-IR for the year

Now that the P/K are settled, really the only 2 things I am looking at is what they do at safety and 3rd RB. I think Wilson has earned that spot. The question is if both will make it. Since some secondary players normally make the roster just to be a ST player, why not Wilson?

I imagine whatever they do at safety, there will be waiver claims once all of the cuts are made.

I see they cut their starting LS Orzech to open up a roster spot for an injured player to avoid missing all of the season, which is fine. He will sign tomorrow. I don't understand how this is legal  though. Isn't it some degree of tampering? Also I assume any team could put in a waiver claim for him, so its risky too.

Orzech has 50 NFL games under his belt, and was signed as an unrestricted free agent. He is no longer subject to waivers.

thanks that clears up half of it, but I'm surprised the league doesn't have an issue with obvious roster manipulation.

What can they really do though? Someone else could come in and offer him more money, but...there's no recourse.

Now I'm just curious who the guy who's going on IR is. I hate how cryptic the Packers are about injuries. I'd say Tenuta, but...that's because I want him on the roster.

Campbell makes sense. Hope it's not Doubs, but could be a significant hamstring issue Tarvarius Moore. By the way, I did not realize what an elite athlete he was. 4.32 40 at 6'2 200? Elite vertical, short area quickness...

Maybe there's more there than we saw due to injury.

Looks like Emanuel Wilson has made it ... at least for now. #3 HB is a pretty tenuous spot.

you had to put him on the 53, I think someone would have picked him up after his preseason. like i said earlier it will be interesting if Taylor makes it just to play on ST.

Damn...I should have just stuck with my original picks!

Cox, Wilson...maybe Tenuta!

I'm loving what the Packers are doing. I really didn't think we'd get both Wilson and Cox...

This could be the start of a really cool story for Wilson. I hope we don't need it this year, but I could easily see him becoming a 1,000 yard back in the future(17 games, really just takes 12-15 carries a game).

Also VERY clear the Packers are taking the longer view with this roster...which is easier to do than in years past.

Saints also waived TE Lucas Krull.  2022 UDFA out of Pitt, at 6'6", 260 is more athlete than blocker though.  Ran a 4.54 40 at Pitt's pro day.

Great story. Maybe Kraft is a better blocker than we're giving him credit for? There's got to be a good reason they took him over Washington when both were on the board.

Is it too early to predict Cooper DeJean as the Packers 1st round pick next year?

LOL...never. I was just looking at some early mocks and thought he'd fit in perfectly as our 2nd 1st rounder. Him or the kid from USC.

I like Latham, Alt or Maason Smith first and DeJean would be a perfect safety in the early 20s or so.

Safety is still by far the weakest position group.

Five guys and not a one of them that's particularly note worthy.

Of the four that made it for their defensive work, I would have no issue with any combination of them in the 3-4 safety roles. Savage is going to have to take a step forward and Ford is going to have to prove that the good moments last year weren't an anomaly for the starting unit to be good, though.

Fun fact: Unless I missed something, the entire 11-player 2022 draft class made the roster in year 2 and the only members of the 2023 draft class that got cut were beaten out by undrafted free agents. This is a young but intriguing roster.

13 players drafted/UDFA from 2022 + 15 rookies = 53% of the roster is from the last 2 years.

Bakh became the most experienced player with 11 years. Preston Smith has been on the defensive side with 9 years.

Jets released 7th round TE Zack Kuntz.  Rated a perfect 10.00 RAS.  I thought he was/is overrated - if he was so good, why did he leave Penn State, and why didn't he go to another good program?  But the Packers do like RAS so maybe they give him a little extra guaranteed salary above the practice squad minimum to join their PS.

Desmond King released by the Texans.  Only 28, played FS and slot, decent PFF grade of 72.3 last year.

Packers were interested in Jonathan Taylor. Seems like they were a bit more interested than kicking the tires.

I think he makes alot of sense next season assuming one or both of Dillon/Jones leaves due to contract/cap casualty reasons.  Packers should have a good amount of cap room for 2024, and some enticing draft capital to make that type of trade work.

Also assuming Taylor is healthy and the same player he was a couple seasons ago...that ankle is somewhat troubling to me until he proves it's not a longterm injury issue.

Packers claim TE Ben Sims and S Zayne Anderson.  So who leaves now?

Safety: I can't see them rostering 6 safeties.  Is this the end for Leavitt?  Anderson is another ST guru.  Or perhaps Owens?

TE: I'd think the most likely candidates here would be to come down to 9 OL (assuming Tenuta goes on the DL for our LS to resign) or 6 DL.  So perhaps Ford or Newman?  Perhaps they decided that Deguara didn't bring enough and are willing to part with him despite the extreme lack of experience at TE on the team?

Wicks could go to IR to make room for Sims.

Anderson could replace Carpenter or Leavitt.  He's considered more of a hybrid LB/S than true S.
