I’m genuinely curious about average LA.
Are all balls in play play averaged for average LA?

That is, could someone hit three pop ups and and three grounders and have a great average launch angle?

Yes, it's a flawed way of looking at LA but when it's negative you definitely get the picture

I am admittedly not a huge Hiura fan but I feel like this next week is almost a tryout for Rowdy to keep his job come Sept 1. Could also remove Anderson from the roster and you gain two other spots, but I can't really see them keeping Hiura off the September roster with the way he's hitting and him + Rowdy on the same roster feels kind of redundant.

If they are bringing Hiura up you would think they do it before September 1st because if he's added to the 40 man roster on or after September 1st then he's not eligible for the playoffs.

That is not the same Hiura as last year. I don't know what it means, if he'd come up and put up a 850 OPS for the Brewers, but that's a cleaner swing.

I don't know what to say with Hiura anymore until he actually faces MLB pitching again.

Because I still could easily see him getting the call and striking out with his usual frequency to where it cancels out whatever power he shows. At the same time, there is some reason to believe that the changes he's made could be the difference.

We'll find out their intentions by Sept 1st.

Nice performance from Lauer. You have to feel pretty decent about our SP depth should someone (*Cough*) Miley (*Cough) go down again.

Surface numbers look great, but overall performance was pretty meh. Velo still isn't holding up past the 1st/2nd inning. Only 7 whiffs and 42% zone rate. Quality of contact against was amazing, but if his velo is going to be 91-93 he would get absolutely lit up in the MLB like we saw earlier this year.

aaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnyway,

@wiguy94, what site has all the contact quality information for minor leaguers?

This site has contact quality, but it isn't super routinely updated only a couple days a week it feels like. It also has things like IVB and VAA for pitchers which is nice.

https://www.prospectslive.com/2023-aaa-statcast-data

I just take the statcast data directly from the baseball savant game pages and put it into an excel document for guys like Gasser and Black and Frelick, Turang, Uribe, Jarvis before they were promoted/traded.

Two bullpen meltdowns at Kannapolis losing two leads late and the first place Mudcats lead is suddenly precariously 2.0 G.

I'm fine. No, really, I'm fine.

I can not even fathom the soiling of his legacy. Dorrian is my guy sink or swim. I'm going with a faulty pair of contact lenses 🤭

The Sounds (24-20) still have a chance. With the 'W' they are 4.0 GB Lehigh Valley for the second half crown. Needless to say, we have two huge road series coming up @ Gwinnett and @ Durham (who are 3.5 G ahead of the Sounds and always give them trouble). Gotta make hay at the Stripers.

I know he hit a bomb to win it, but Cam Devanney is still...just plugging along...going into the hole, firing missiles to 1st, hitting for power, getting on base. A RHed hitting 3B/SS...seems like a guy who could have considerable value moving forward.

So I looked a little closer into Ernesto Martinez' debut at Biloxi. He's walked 10 times with only 3 Ks, in 39 PA's. I know when they signed him they weren't looking for the second coming of David Eckstein, but that's some really impressive plate presence for his first taste of AA.

And given that he was our 2nd or 3rd best hitter in 2022, you’d imagine he could help.  I thought for sure he’d be up Aug 1st if he wasn’t traded before the deadline.  I’d have to imagine that if Winker doesn’t show anything on rehab, that Hiura will get the call to share the DH role with Tellez.  I’m not opposed to Hiura also playing a little LF as long as he gets a defensive replacement.  Rowdy hasn’t shown signs of shaking off rest in the minors or MLB so far.  Heck I’d like to call up Hiura and send Wiemer down to AAA for the last week of the month to get him some regular ABs and confidence.

On the very weekend when I lead off a Link Report plugging how valuable our daily “as-it-happens” thread is, inviting others to discover it, we have to hide a dozen+ posts between two posters who should know better on forum etiquette. Please do not let this happen again, or there will be some temporary "vacations" from forum posting rights assigned. Thank you.
