Oh my. Now the Rea move makes even more sense. No Miley or Lauer. No idea if Gasser will excel in his first MLB season. Tricky proposition.

Anyone fancy Alex Wood or Hyun-Jin Ryu?

Man, I hope he gets paid, or, gets paid just enough to come back.  Really like him!

Miley was great last year, but he was hurt/ineffective in each of 2022 and 2020.

The last time he put up back to back good seasons was 2018/19 at age 31/32. He‘ll be 37 in a week and change.

Brewers medical staff obviously knows more than this internet yokel, so if they are cool with bringing him back I’ll cross my fingers for another 20 some starts, 120 some innings.

If Wade finds an offer more to his liking elsewhere I’ll wish him the best (unless it’s in the NLC) and hope the Brewers FO can find a good use for the $9M saved.

I'll take a trade of Wade Miley for money towards Rhys Hoskins or Mitch Garver.

Re-sign him as a player/manager... saves the $$$ that would go to Counsell or another manager and justifies overpaying for his services on the field.

Not a terrible idea.  Just need to remind him not to get tossed in a game that he is starting.

Did anyone expect anything else though? Mutual options are pretty much always declined. They are a way to defer some money to next year (the buyout), and only in extremely rare cases do they align where player and team both think it's the exact right deal for them.

I like Wade too but I’m not sure how he gets paid significant money…….he's 37 and since 2018 he has been an every other season guy as far as being healthy.

2018 80 innings

2019 167

2020 14

2021 163

2022 37

2023 120

At his age and injury history, I doubt Miley gets a multi-year contract. But he has made over $50M in his career so he has done all right for himself. Hard to believe he will get much more than the $10M his option was worth so I actually thought there was a chance the mutual option could have been agreed upon.  Still a chance for him to return.

I love Wade Miley as a pitcher & he is certainly a strong clubhouse leader

I don’t believe he is worth $10M per year (only 120 innings this year)

I can’t imagine anyone giving him a two-year contract at his age with his injury history

Someone is going to take the risk and pay him 20 million on a 2 year deal  I'd bet on it.  When healthy, he is good, taking the risk he can stay healthy for 2 years could be worth it to a team with deeper pockets.

I like Miley a lot but the question is whether the money will be right considering he’s a pretty big risk.  Brewers want to be shrewd with resource allocation and risking substantial cash on an aging guy may not be their move.

Hoskins seems to really match up with team needs and budget if you can get him for the right number of years.  But the Brewers tend not to bite on some of my targets so take my view with a grain of salt.
