That is a life changing situation that very few people experience in their lives. So no, they can't possibly know what decision they would make, until it happened. Too each their own.

You are still doing it….making absolute statements (“they can’t possibly know…”) about not having absolute statements.
Again, it’s like saying, “You can’t know ANYTHING for sure (are your SURE about that).”  As soon as you make that statement, you refute your own statement.
Better to say it is simply your opinion when you go down this “can’t possibly know” road.
I simply would not want anything to do with the Cubs if I was Cc. My whole Brewers legacy would be gone and no amount of money….since I was a multi millionaire already…would be worth throwing that away. And that is my personal belief.

Let's compare two rich guys, Coun$ell to Herb Kohl:

More on Herb Kohl’s commitment to Milwaukee. He told me that during the Sale of the Bucks Steve Ballmer called to ask what was the highest bid? It was $550 Million from Lasry-Edens. Ballmer offered $1 Billion but he would move the Team to Seattle. Herb Kohl’s said no.

Still apples to oranges. Kohl was a billionaire, and Counsell isn't. I get it, you disagree. Let it go, because life will go on.

Really dude? It was my comment, so shouldn't it be a given that that is my opinion? Lol SMDH seems like you're just aching to debate with someone. Lol

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you appear to be still typing too.

Take the L. Let's move on.

Maybe Weeks will get a regular gig on a Brewers postgame show and could provide some input. Didn't hear much from Murphy except for what he chose to share with Tim Allen during interviews.

I think what left me upset with the Counsell situation is that the Brewers offered him a deal to make him the hightest paid manager in baseball and he turned them down.  It wasn't a money thing unless he really believed the market was going to open up further for him and he rolled the dice and won.  That is possible.  I tend to think it was either 1) He wanted out of Milwaukee really bad for whatever reason and figured he could do just as well money-wise elsewhere; or 2) He was having secret negotiations with the Cubs during the season that he should not have been having.  The only one that makes me feel somewhat understanding the move is #1, but even then, the Brewers treated him well and he left to go to the biggest rival of the Brewers.

Obviously Counsell's situation is a little different, but if Lombardi had gone to the Bears instead of the Redskins would his lasting legacy in Green Bay be a bit tarnished?  I would argue yes.  It wouldn't be ruined, but tarnished.

I wish Counsell nothing but the worst as a manger in Chicago for a multitude of reasons.  First because I don't like the Cubs.  Second for how he exited Milwaukee.

Just a unique case where you self-refuted your own statement…

For instance, I could say back to you, “Don’t judge.” That is also a self-refuting statement because I am showing my judgment in saying it.

No offense intended and my apologies..

I don't have thin skin like a lot of people do nowadays. I think you guys are completely misunderstanding the point I'm trying to make. At least partially.

The only people that care about Counsell burning a bridge are Brewers fans....Counsell doesn't care. I don't know why it is still a hot button issue of how much he burned that bridge and comparing to some other city lifers. News flash: Counsell doesn't care.

Exactly. Plus, for all any of us know, maybe Murphy will end up being an even better head coach than Counsell was.

I've gone back and forth a lot on this and my take is he is very competitive and wants to win a World Series.  After seeing what type of teams the Brewers can put together, always missing some aspects of a true contender, he decided to leave.  With Burnes and Woody probably out, Sterns leaving, it was good timing so he wouldn't be blamed if there were a couple years of rebuilding.  Add to that he can go to Chicago and still keep his house and life in Milwaukee if he wants.  I have no clue if he did or not, but I guess it would be tempting for many to not have to move their family.

Today's Athletic piece from Ken Rosenthal (paywalled) is about how Counsell is really mixing things up in Chicago. The article doesn't go into any depth about his decision to leave Milwaukee. It seemed to me when I read the piece, though, that (A), Counsell was looking for a fresh, energizing challenge, and (B), wanted to have more front office decision-making power than what the Brewers front office was ever going to cede (and why would they, if they've been successful). But these observations are just my reading between the lines.

So I'm always supposed to let everyone else have the last word in a debate, when a few comments earlier, I said I'd agree to disagree, and they just keep on responding? Yeah, I'll get RIGHT on that.

BINGO! And that would definitely not be something to hate Counsell for doing. Some people just love to hate people when someone doesn't do what they think they should've done. SMDH

We hear the argument all the time that there isn't much loyalty among players, and that they basically always decide to go play for whoever is offering the most money. Why should managers be held to a different standard?

No one said "everyone" or "every time" but sometimes you just gotta drop it so threads don't escalate or go off the rails.

Also, it's an anonymous message board. No one will think less of you in your personal life if you stand down here.

I'm not sure anyone here hates the man Craig Counsell, I don't hate him personally, but as a sports fan, I will throw all my hate his way until he retires.  Sports fan hate is a lot different than personal hate imo.

I hate that he's a Cub, and I hate the Cubs, so yeah, I guess you can take that any way you want.

Craig Counsell is the enemy, and I wish him the poorest luck this world has to offer.
