Interesting, as Baseball America has him signing with the Rangers

Last I looked there was a Jonathan Rangel signing with both teams, one a shortstop and one an outfielder. Might legitimately be two signings with that name.

That would be interesting.

I do like how the Rangel signing with the Brewers is known as Kobe - maybe to distinguish himself from the other??

They are both listed as from Venezuela, so that is possible.

This seems like a big class. Is this more than they normally sign?

Less than the number they signed last year:

14 pitchers doesn't surprise me (I think it was 13 last year). 21 position players does. Last year they had 34 players get at bats between the two teams. Even with a moderately aggressive promotion schedule (the obvious ones, Ereu because of his bonus, and a few guys like Tyler Rodriguez and Danny Puerta), I've got 39 position players right now in the DSL. Obviously there could be a few more cuts coming before DSL play starts.

It is going to be tough for some of the guys repeating. Roderick Flores got a ton of playing time at short last year, usually a sign that the organization is fairly high on him. Unless he gets a surprise promotion to the ACL, however, it looks like he is going to have to go full on Demetrio Nadal to earn consistent playing time next season with all the new infielders they are bringing in.

Also, it does seem like the Brewers leaned in to the "All international position player signings are either shortstops, center fielders or catchers" joke.

I'm not surprised that we've kept our foot on the pedal in terms of the quality (3 highly-ranked studs) and size (35 players) of the international class.

However, if MLB is really going to implement reduced aggregate MILB rosters this year, it likely means we'll see a LOT of cuts across MILB in early June.

It also means the days of the vast majority of Brewers' DSL players getting two seasons to show their stuff may be behind us.

I actually think that this constitutes a business opportunity (e.g. sign 120 available young players dirt-cheap every June, develop them in a new league for 2 years, then sell the best back to affiliated baseball), but I don't have the time or money to pursue it.

Kid is already in a MLB man's body frame.  Quiet body in this swing until end. But he's the build you dream off just popping balls without trying. Hope he doesn't get 6-7 and above.  Gotta figure corner of/3b if they already like the arm. The power in the swing should come natural at that height with age.

Like everything about this class.

From the size of most of our higher rated SS’s, to having a couple of pitchers already throwing 92-94, to just the volume of signings and the competition that will create.

Bravo Matt Klentak & co.

At least I still don’t think DSL rosters count toward the total, but it does kind of create a chain reaction that places a higher premium on immediate production.
