I like that my two favorite teams get to play each other every year now.

Gilbert-Peralta is a great matchup -- two guys who could be dark horse Cy Young candidates this year.

The Mariners offense has been awful so far this year, ideally the Brewers keep them in the dumps but I have a feeling they will hit better after getting out of the 45 degree Seattle marine layer. They can't hit any worse than they have so far (.550 OPS).

Seattle's defense has also struggled so far this year, so the Brewers have a huge advantage in that category.

Luis Urías also makes his return to Milwaukee this weekend.

I really like what the M's did this offseason, Garver, Raley, and Polanco (even Haniger) should lengthen that lineup alot. I am sure at 1 point I heavy advocated for us to add each of Garver, Raley, and/or Polanco. They even added some nice bullpen pieces, but injuries have hurt there bullpen.

I think they overcorrected after an 88 win season in 2023, but Jerry Dipoto can't help himself when it comes to trades and the only way to make a ton of trades was to dump some payroll to make room for new additions. Lots of selling low and buying high.

Feels like they rearranged the deck chairs and will end up wasting elite pitching with a mediocre offense like the 2022 Brewers did.

You’re misremembering what actually happened in 2022. The offense was the strength of that team. The SP and bullpen were major letdowns.

I may be thinking more of 2021...

The offense was average in 2021. They got cold in September though and that carried over to the playoffs.

All I know is that the criticisms of the current Mariners offense sound similar to what people were saying about the Brewers in 2021-22. Top heavy, no speed, too dependent on slugging and HRs,

I understand that we will need a 6-man rotation but I don't like having to force Ashby up. Last year he struggled in rehab games and the velo is not there yet. Was fine on Tuesday vs Toledo but I think this is the wrong move. Hope he proves me wrong.

The issue is who else are you using? Miley and Gasser are injured. Blalock and Junk are the only other stretched guys on the 40-man roster

Bullpen game maybe? Bryse Wilson for 3+? Not ideal to tire arms in the strech of games but you have optionable guys like Bukauskas and new guy Gutierrez. Last week I would have said Junk but after his start the other night he doesn't feel like an option.

I know Ashby is the best/only realistic option but I still don't like it.

I am right there with you in not liking it. I don't have much if any faith in Ashby putting up a good start with his velo still in the 92-93 range.

Junk just lost two nights ago to our folk hero Caleb Boushley against St Paul, I think Ashby is the only option really.

Isn't it crazy how it all works? We are 5 games into the season and we are already "on the only option" to bring up a spare starter.
