Crew Dos falls 2-0 in the rare low scoring DSL duel.

Pedro Tovar (3-3, 2B, SB), Kevin Ereu (2-3, 2B) and Luis Corobo (1-3, 2B) made most of the noise on offense while Frandy Lafond went 0 for 2 with a walk and stolen bag in his debut.

18yo RHPs Johan Zapata (3 IP | 1 H | 2 K) and Omar Camilo (1 IP | 1 H | 3 K) finished with four frames of scoreless, walkless work.

In addition to the aforementioned Jesus Made bomb, 18yo RHP Wenderlyn King has worked around 5 H | 1 BB | 3 HBP to allow only 1 ER through 4 IP (4 K) for Crew Uno so far today.

Not sure if this is a Gameday error, or what... But outfielder Idalberto Santiesteban pitched the sixth inning of a tie game? He allowed two runs on two hits and two walks, but he's been hitting all year, so perhaps they're trying him on the mound in a two-way role right now? Very interesting...

When he signed, there was a report that he had thrown 96 MPH from the outfield, so there must be some arm talent there.

Game 2 for the DSL Cerveceros Dos is underway. Quintana tallied his 4th 2B and 2nd SB of his season. 2-1 Crew in the 3rd.

Also, in terms of Standings implications early, the Uno are playing a very very formidable Orioles Orange (11-1) squad.

In addition to Made's 3rd Johnson, we see INF Luis Pena's return with his 2nd 3-bagger of his season. Huge to see Pena back in the line-up ( @wiguy94). Oh, hey! Speaking of Señor Peña, let's take a look:

The Crew Uno also just took the game 4-3 in the bottom of the 8th (scheduled 7-inning affair)and walked it off w a DSL special: Balk, K, WP.

Pay dirt baby! Crew moves to 9-4 while Orioles fall to 11-2.

Fascinating to see RHP Wenderlyn King with a 20:1 K:BB ratio in 13 2/3 IP over 3 GS. AND, 6 HB😁. He'll turn 19 in late August.

Taking the mound for the Mudcats tonight, 21-year-old Yorman Galindez:

Edit to Add: Well, he was scheduled to Start tonight. AND, it would appear something happened over the past 24 hours. Galindez was just added to the 7-Day IL.

Will we be seeing 18-year-old Nicaraguan RHP Enniel Cortez hurl the white rat in affiliated ball for the first time? It sure seems as though that may be the case. He was just called up to Carolina from the ACL. In his 2024 ACL season to date he has pitched 24 1/3 innings. It would appear he has had insanely bad luck with contact - 0.386 BABIP - but sports a fantastic K:BB ratio at 27:3 (4 HB). From last year's DSL season:

The High-A Timber Rattlers can make it 3 wins in a row at Fort Wayne. RHP KC Hunt aims to continue his remarkable season: 1.80 ERA, 0.70 WHIP, 14.0 K/9 in 40 IP. SS Eduardo Garcia makes his first appearance for Wisconsin this year as he tries to work his way back to AA Biloxi after an injury.

After 25 straight relief appearances, RHP Jeferson Figueroa (1.96 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 11.0 K/9 in 23 IP) makes a rare start for Low-A Carolina, which leads their series at Columbia 2-1. SS Cooper Pratt has a 26-game on-base streak.

21-year old RHP Brett Wichrowski looks to build on a solid last start (4 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks) for AA Biloxi, which can extend its series lead in Rocket City to 3-0 with a victory tonight. C Darrien Miller has a 16-game on-base streak with 12 hits, 17 walks and 9 HBPs.

The Sounds are playing as the Oat Milkers tonight, a promotion from a Swedish oat milk company. I went to one of their promotional games this year and nobody had any idea what the purpose of the promotion was. The only thing they changed was swapped out the team name with Oat Milkers all night.

End of the 3rd in Carolina and the Muddies look good. Figueroa is off to a good start, having only given up a walk and a hit. He also has 4 K's so far. The Muddies scored 2 in the top of the 1st. Guilarte walked to lead-off and Yophery Rodriguez hit a 2-run bomb.

KC Hunt is not sharp today. Leaving the breaking balls up and they are getting hit hard. This will be a short outing for him.

Jeison Pena walks the first guy he faces on 9 pitches. A sharp liner right at Castillo turns into a 7-6-3 double play as the runner was going on the hit-and-run. Pena walks Peña on a pitch-clock violation but gets Jhonny Perdomo to ground to second base and puts up a clean frame.

Ugh. Pitchers not doing as well as we’d hope in Hunt and Wichrowski.

And it looks like a low hit night for the affiliates tonight: 1H in only 1 inning for Nashville; but 2 H in 3 for Billxi; 1 hit going into 5 for TRats; and Carolina 2 hits (at least 2 runs) in top 5. C’mon guys let’s get the offense going….

Top of the 5th. Briceno walks and Guilarte singles. Y-Rod comes up with 2 men on and 2 outs. He delivers a single on a sharp grounder past the diving Firefly fielder. Briceno scores. That's 3 RBI's for Y-Rod already. Pratt has men on the corners but he lines out to center.

Pena coming for a second inning in the  bottom of the 5th. Muddies lead 3-0

Top of the 6th and the Muddies are buisy on the bases. Walling lines out to the second baseman, who made a fantastic play. David García singles, Castillo strikes out, Norman singles and steals. 2-on-2-out for Briceno who singles in a run. Another steal. The Muddies pull off the steal second, wait for the throw, steal home play and they lead 5-0.

Now a horrible defensive play by the Fireflies. Acosta singles to third and beats the throw. The throw is really wide, allowing Acosta to move to second and Briceno to score. Guilarte now scores and allowing the runner to advance bites the Fireflies as Acosta scores. Y-Rod finally grounds into a fielders choice.

Wild inning with awful defence and the Muddies lead 7-0.

Muddies don't do much in the top of the 7th. To the 8th.

Pena has run into trouble. 2 singles and a steal and its men on 2nd and 3rd with no outs.

Uh-oh, what a bomb by Gabriel Silva. That ball went deep into left and its a 7-3 ball game. Nick Stanley goes out to get Pena but its one batter too late. Dikember Sanchez comes in with no one on and no outs.
