The Brewers are arguably one of the best-run franchises in American sports over the last decade all things considered, so I won't log this as a complaint, but my gut feeling on this team is that it just isn't ever going to be good enough to really beat a couple a top dogs into October. They always win but when they have to go toe-to-toe with the elite it just seems like they can't quite get over the hump.

That speaks to how watered down the talent is and with 6 playoff teams hardly anyone is “out of it”

At least not officially out of it even though they're odds are so long they're really not "in it"

I think they call it over used! Starters just don't eat enough innings.

Bingo. Milner at 40 innings through 90 games and was 64 through 162 last year. Hudson at 46 innings and threw only 64 total in ‘23. Peguero at 35 innings through 90 and 61 total innings in ‘23. Then Bryce Wilson already at 78 innings when he threw only 76 last year.  Me thinks they’re in trouble in the 2nd half without some big time reinforcements

This is just the nature of the MLB. Without some kind of salary cap or some other creative way to level out rosters to make them more equivalent this is just what you are going to get. Granted you will occasionally get a 2015 Royals championship, but these types of winners are becoming rarer and rarer recently.

But, but, but what about bites at the apple?

Does Pat Murphy have any clue how to build a lineup? Playing Yelich in LF and putting Chourio at DH? After over 25 years in baseball you would think he could see if one player might be a better defensive player than another.

I would guess that's Yelich not wanting to DH every day more than anything.

With Yelich's past back problems he might consider it after today's flub, plus his arm is way below MLB outfield average. But I have to say the Dodgers are about the strongest team in the MLB and we at least hung with them.

Actually, in a lot of ways the game tonite was the type of game it needs to be for us to come out on top vs these guys. But two things needed to happen, that didn't.

1) Just a couple/few more successful ABs, in a timely manner. Not even talking about the old "runners on & so-and-so didn't get a hit" lament. Talking about the HRs. We're a team that'll hit some. Both tonite were solos. Something ahead of the Hoskins HR.......maybe Frelick lines one through the 6-hole, maybe he has one of those 10-pitch ABs & walks.....hell, maybe he beats out a bunt. Ahead of the Yelich HR..........Contreras I thought had really nice ABs tonite. He saw what--18, 19, 20 pitches? His worst decision of the night--maybe his only bad one--was the last pitch he saw. On paper, it cost us a run. When we're good we put pressure on pitchers & put runners on. That has value, even when you don't score. It was lacking tonite.

2) Vs this team, we cannot afford to have Peralta take 25 pitches to get his **** together. He never actually did, fully, but he got better. The way he closed out the 4th was gutsy & very impressive. Come out like that right away. Figure it out.

Ortiz & Sanchez missing makes a big difference late, when a LHP is out there. Bad day for Monasterio, outside of the bunt, which was a good idea but (of course) it rolled foul. His decision to swing 2-0 w/2 outs in the 9th---I know, it probably makes no difference, but that's just mentally vacant.

Couple more good ABs from Hoskins. Fingers crossed.

Koenig at 43 (majors and minors) after 59 last year, Paredes 37 after 54.. Theres a reason theyre the IL.  We NEED innings.

I'd be fine if we traded for a Pablo Lopez or Griffin Canning I just want someone who will go 6+ 50% of the time to the tune of a 4.85 ERA

Chourio fouled a ball off his unprotected foot on Friday, and after the fact appeared to be in some discomfort. I would suppose he was DH Saturday night to get him off his feet as much as possible while keeping one of their hotter bats in the lineup against a tough team. Sheesh.

Who’s the manager, Yelich or Murphy?

The manager is Murphy. But I think everyone understands the dynamic on teams btwn a "star" player & the manager. The Contreras & Adames playing every day thingy is an example.

Plus, there's nothing to prove Murphy WANTS Yelich DHing every day, or that Yelich burning his glove makes him a better hitter.
