Tobias gives me gritty, aggressive, bulldog vibes. Smaller but strong athletic frame. Clean delivery, Good power stuff. Sony Gray’ish.

Like the a lot pick. No surprise the Brewers hit up “high school pitching hot beds” of New Jersey, Illinois, Indiana for pitching. They love to find high value where others aren’t looking as hard.

Another Indiana high school pitcher that I would love to see us draft is southpaw Brayton Thomas.  6' 4", 220 lbs., mid-90's FB, a plus slider, along with a curve and change.  Plus he's already pitched at AmFam last September at the Prep Baseball Report All-American event.  Unranked by MLB.com, but Future Star Series had him at #189 in their last update before the draft. Like Tobias, an Indiana recruit.

They probably drafted players at the three spots that they were weakest at (catcher, first base and outfield). I'm guessing that they grab another college catcher for slot or less tomorrow for depth purposes. It could be that the Brewers just didn't care for this class of hitters once you got to Day 2 (or alternatively they could be floating one or two of the remaining prep bats to day 3).

Baseball Propsect Journal on MolinaTobias, and Dorchies

Nugget:

Dorchies turns 18 on Oct. 22. With his size, pitch mix and age, scouts believe he has tremendous upside as a starter in pro ball. He is a University of Illinois Chicago commit. He will command an over-slot deal, as the No. 305 pick’s assigned slot value is only $180,400.

Holobetz primarily utilizes a fastball that he can gear up to 95 mph and a slider. While he’s spent time as a starter and a reliever, he mostly came out of the bullpen in college as he and his coaches came together to make a plan for his usage. Holobetz expects to get a chance to start in the Brewers organization, a welcome opportunity for the young pitcher.

“I want to be a starter,” he said. “I think I’m going to be a starter. But whatever happens, happens.”

Holobetz is still working with the Brewers to finalize a deal, but he expects to report to the team’s training facility in Arizona next week. The draft process has been fulfilling, but he’s eager to return to the mound and start competing as a professional.

I am far from a scout, but this kid stood out during my ~45 minutes of watching a minor league game on Monday. Big guy hairy a Quick bat. Punishes the ball. Arm didn’t look great behind the plate.

We're all crossing our fingers with him! The organization has a dearth of catching prospects after Quero.
